Frederick Sommerfield b. abt 1872 married Margaret Kuehnel b. 1896, Sept 5, 1925 in Queens, New York. Both were born in Germany. By 1930 they were living in Dade Co., Florida. Frederick was a cigar manufacturer. I know that Margaret had a sister Helena/Helen Nedoma. Margaret and Helen had a Step brother Fritz Lehmann, my grandfather.
I believe Fred Sommerfield died in 1933, but have not been able to find anything on Margaret after that year.
Any information on these people would be great.

I've seen a US Public record for Cincinnati, OH showing a John SOMMERFIELD sharing a phone number with Ed SOMMERFIELD but don't know if that is the same one you refer to...just a record I came across. I believe there is a record that Ed SOMMERFIELD died in Cincinnati, OH. I am seeking the Eddie SOMMERFIELD who married Lola Faye MOOREHEAD because I'd like to know more about Lola Faye MOOREHEAD's other marriage to George VON THUN. I am descended from a George VON THUN's sister and we would like to know what happened to George...possibly in Chicago, Cook, IL.
My email is mrspsp@dc.rr.com

Hi Pat,

We've corresponded before but in the past when I had a lot less information. I still have a lot of holes. I do not know my great-grandfather's siblings for sure. I have tied a William, Christopher & Wilhemine to him by dates and other information from various peole but have no documentation to confirm they are his siblings. I finally have an accurate list of his children, with birth dates and some other information..

I found Michael's naturalization in Washington County, but he was naturalized in the County Court with a whole group and all the pages show is their name, age at naturalization, country they came from and year they came. Very disappointing. He gave the year of immigration as 1876 and I do believe that is correct. I went to the Sommerfeld Reunion in Brenham last May and got some additional information. One of the cousins who lives down in the Galveston area said her dad who has died had some family immigration information he had obtained through the Rosenberg Library. Well, naturally I can't find her name & address to follow up. I plan to do so but have had family crises non-stop since July. So hopefully in the new year I can do more.

Perhaps if we put our heads together we can make some joint headway. Email me at patsroar@htcomp.net.
Pat

I am also interested in the Sommerfield families in Washington and also the neighboring Fayette County in TX.
Do you know if your Michael had a brother August born 1840, or Karl born 1842?
This is my husband's family (my hubby's name is Michael also). They came from Germany in 1882 through Galveston, and of course, those records are lost. (Galveston storm of 1900).

I was told that to find immigration records, you would need to find the papers on any of the people if they were naturalized. Only one of the children of the family I am researching was naturalized. I am having a problem finding her papers. They should be in the county she filed in, which is Travis County, but cannot find them. I will have to go to Austin and do some research. But if one of yours did become naturalized, the papers would have the year and the ship they came on, so I am told.
I have copied all the Sommerfield/Sommerfeld Census from 1780-1910. There are a lot of them living near one another for there not to be some relation. I would be interested in exchanging info...maybe we could help each other.

Pat

Update Sommerfeld search

I am still looking for original immigration information on Michael Sommerfeld (sometimes spelled Sommerfield) and Pauline Schulz Sommerfeld. The first definitely documented appearance of the family is on the 1880 Washington County, Texas census. The 1870 census lists a Michael Sommerfeld but he is probably not this Michael Sommerfeld because of age discrepancies and so forth. The family of Michael, Pauline and the three children born in Posen
Emma, Frederich and Julius, and Henry born 1876 in Texas, along with Alvine who was born in Texas in 1878, appear on the 1880 Washington County, TX census. So they arrived between 1873 and 1876. These are years when many immigration records for Galveston were destroyed. My only hope is that they either first landed elsewhere, or someone else has family information which will fill in the gaps. Any asssitance would be very much appreciated and welcome.

Pat

I'll try to locate more info on the Sommerfield line on my end.
I have several males (Sommerfield surname) who I think could fit into your timeperiod. Without any dates or timeframe from you, I would guess that your great-aunt was born about 1930 as her husband was. His parents might have been born about 1900, which could coincide with mine.
Any of these names sound familar being Lucille father-in-law?
Herman or Emil?
Oh well.....Good Hunting!

Family name spelled Sommerfield by some. Looking for immigration information on Michael Sommerfeld, wife Pauline Schultz. Came to Washington County, Texas before 1870 because shown on 1870 census. Unknown how many children they may have had before immigration. According to headstone, Michael was born 1836. Julia, Rudolph & Emma may have been born before immigration. Came from Wrongowitz area of Posen, probably Schokken (Skoki). many relatives still in Washington County and a branch emigrated to Hamilton county. My grandfather, Gustav, youngest boy, emigrated to Bosque County around 1900.

Any leads welcome.
