I could not find this family in 1920.

His mother was Louisa Alice Brice, who married Obie Sorrell on 10 June 1907 in Crockett County, Tennessee.

Thomas Sorrell was the half-brother of Irene Leggett's first husband Orie Otha Binkley. Louisa Brice had previously been married to Leonard Livingston Binkley (8 Oct. 1898, Lauderdale County, Tennessee). They were evidently divorced.

As you see, in 1930 Louisa reported that she had been married three times. Her second marriage was as follows:

H.D. Tomlinson to Mrs. L.A. Binkley, 31 January 1904, Lauderdale County, Tennessee.

Although the marriage record for Thomas D. Sorrell and Irene Binkley shows her as "Miss," this was actually her second marriage. Irene Leggett married Orie Otha Binkley on 15 December 1928 in Lauderdale County, TN. Orie Binkley died on October 7, 1933, while hauling lumber. A bridge broke, and he drowned when he was caught under the cab of his truck. [Tennessee Death Records, 1933, No. 21218]

passed in 1968. His son Verl Sorrells was my great grandfather who also passed in AR, and my grandmother
Verlene Sorrells-Lott who is still with us in Blytheville, AR. We are searching for information regarding the
Sorrells family as Verl was separated from his mother and father at a very young age. Thank you, Christy

I do have a Theodore born possibly 1885. His father was born 1865 - siblings b 1889-1905. This Theodore was married to a Velma.

That is interesting as my great grand fathers middle name was Russell. Verl Russell Sorrells. His father was Coren Theodore Sorrells 1885 -1968.

Both died in Arkansas and from what we can tell came from Tennessee.

Greetings from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I to am looking for information about my great, great grandfather Coren T. Sorrells. While searching I found the information listed below. The name Green Sorrells was mentioned. Hope this helps.

GEORGE WASHINGTON SORRELS OF SCOTT COUNTY, ARKANSAS

GEORGE WASHINGTON SORRELS, listed as a son of Nancy Newberry and Samuel
Sorrells on many DAR lineage papers by descendants in the past, was born
ca. 1785o North Carolina, and died 4 February 1855, Waldron,Scott County
Arkansas. According to old notes and letters of Florence Reed Gantt and
Martha Edith Reed Quinn in Clayton Library in Houston Texas, he was
buried at the foot of Blackjack Mountain in Scott County.

He married on 9 September 1802 in Elbert County,Georgia, to MARY B.
CHAMBERS (or CHALMERS) [Widow's bounty land claim. war of 1812].
According to the 1850 and 1860 Scott County censuses. She was born
either in North Carolina or in Georgia ca. 1790 (which date may not
be??]. Various descendants say she died ca 1867-68 at the home of her
son, James Little Sorrels. She was listed in his household in Scott
County in 1860.

The compiler believes Samuel Sorrells who drew land in the 1805 Georgia
land lottery, as a resident of Elbert County, was the father of George
Washington Sorrels, because no primary evidence has been presented to
the contrary, and an overwhelming number of descendants of George have
joined the DAR on Samuel Sorrells' Revolutionary service. The proven
fact of George's marriage in Elbert County, and the letter of James
Warren Sorrels to Marion Dewoody Pettigrew adds further support.

Data about George and some of his descendants is given in Mrs.
Pettigrew's "Sorrells and Allied Families", in the Pine Bluff,.Arkansas
Library, on pages 7,9,14c, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 70, 75, and 76. However,
sources are lacking for most of this work, and no documentation was
presented by Mrs. Pettigrew as to why she claimed Walter Sorrells was
the father of George Washington Sorrels. Please see the preceding
compilation on Samuel and Walter which I sent to the List before.

According to Mary Cash Lane, compiler ofCash, Duckett, Allied Families,
Cornelia, Ga. 1944, Mary B. Chambers was the daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth
Jane Little,widow of Mr. Little who died about 1779),and her second
husband, John Chambers, Sr. One of their sons was: John Chambers, Jr.,
born 1786, Virginia, and died 24 June 1873, Homer, Georgia. John Jr.
fought in the 1812 War from Franklin County, Georgia, and married (1)
Jane Brock, 20 March 1806, Franklin County, Georgia (2) Nancy
McCormick. Mary Cash Lane stated the other issue of Elizabeth Little
and John Chambers, Sr. were:Mary B. who married Mr. Sorrells; William
married Margaret Brock; Andrew; Elizabeth m. Milton Turk, Jr; Lizzie,
Christopher, Isabella, and Ann Chambers.

Mary B. Chambers had a half-brother, James Little, and other
half-siblings by her mother's first marriage. Mrs. Lane's sources were
not given. Mrs. Lane stated that the Little children and the Chambers
children were reared in Virginia, and the Chambers family moved to
Georgia from Virginia, settling on the Hudson River.

The will of John Chambers, Sr., dated 17 December 1815, was probated
September 1816, Franklin County, Georgia. He and his wife are buried in
the Chambers burial ground northwest of Homer, Georgia. Now this area
is in Banks County. [I found the Lane book in Ga. Archives] Please note
that the surname, Chambers, may be found in early records as Chalmers.

George Washington Sorrels was still in Georgia when his daughter, Anna
Maria Sorrels Eastes was born in 1809. According to her 1850 Scott
County, Arkansas census, she was born there. By 1813, he was listed in
the Wilkinson County, Mississippi census along with a Green Sorrels, but
data by their names is illegible. George was in Lawrence County,
Mississippi, December 1814, where he enlisted for the 1812 War [service
record, bounty land claim, abstracted in my book]. By 1819, deceased
descendants wrote that he had gone to Arkansas, but so far he has not
been found in any 1820 census. In 1830, he was listed in the Clark
County, Arkansas census. A Washington Sorrels was on the 1839 Hempstead
County, Arkansas tax list, but he was not found on any 1840 census yet.
He was listed on the 1850 Hickman Twsp., Scott County, Arkansas census.

I am the grand daughter of William Edward Sorrell his parents were Robert(born 1860)& Martha Sorrell. Robert's parents were John & Mary from Burneston Yorkshire and I think your Richard is Robert's brother. I have just started looking into this side of the family and would love to find out more. I have a photo of Robert, Martha and their children John, Robina, Albert, Lily and William Edward c1900. I know Robert & his family lived in Middlesbrough.

Information I have obtained from Dale Muller is that Redman Sorrells is the son of Joseph Sorrells. The father of Joseph Sorrells is William Sorrells who was born in VA about 1832. William Sorrells fought in the French and Indian Wars and recieved 50 acres of land fromt he British. This land was given to one of his sons.

I am working on a SAR application and I need proof that Thomas Sorrells is the son of Elisha Sorrells. Elisha Sorrells was born in Culpeper County, VA and fought in the American Revolution. He died in Bath, KY in 1825. In Elisha's Revolutionary War Pension application his list only his youngest children and his wife. When Elisha moved to Ky, Thomas Sorrells (married to Mary Snell) and remained in VA for several years and then moved to Bath, Ky and then to Orange County, IN. I trying to find a record that states that Thomas was his son.

There is a James C. Sorrells who lives in Waco, Texas and He is the brother of Euma Belle Sorrells. I met James in the 1970's and have some of his research on Sorrells family.

My great Aunt Nannie Sorrells Huffman lived in Fredrick, OK beginning in 1930. She was still there in 1946 when her sister die in Dallas, Texas. The other informationis that Nannie's husband, J.K. Huffman died in fredrick, OK in 1951.
I am just now working on this family. Nannie was born in Dallas, Texas abt 1877. She married J.K. Huffman 23 Nov 1898 in Kaufman County, Texas

The father of Noah S. Sorrells was Hiram Sorrells and the father of John H. Sorrells was Joseph Sorrells they were the sons of Thomas Sorrells. His father was Elisha Sorrells.

I am trying to find the parents of Redman Sorrells, 1786 from Culpepper, VA who is an ancestor of mine. Some say he is Elisha Sorrells son, some say his father is Joseph Sorrells. Does anyone know for sure? Chances are his mother was a Redman, hence his name honoring that side of the family. His second wife was Permelia Gretham (Grisham?) who was said to be Native American, born in 1800 in either Kentucky or Missouri. This would pre-date the trail of tears so probably not Cherokee. He died in Wayne, Indiana.

My grandfathers name was Ephraim Sorrells. I have not been able to link anything past the 1920s. We are african american so this has not been easy. Any help would be appreciated.

The full name of Noah S. sorrells is Noah Spate Sorrells and he is from Morgan County IL. He came to Texas in 1860 with my great grandfather John H. Sorrells. They were cousin s. Noah was married and had a number of children. He enlisted iin the 18 Texas Calvary in Dallas, Texas. He made SGT. My ggfather and Noah became Master Masons together. He died in 1884 in Mesquite, Dallas, TX. I have more information about him but I don't have it with me at this time. Noah's Father and John H. Sorrells were brothers. The family came to IL from Virginia via KY, and Indiana. Their grandfather died in Bath County, KY in 1825. His father was born in 1732 in Culpepper County, VA. He fought in the Frence and Indian Wars. He also fought in the American Revolution. He lost two sons in 1776. He left Valley Forge and returned home. One of his sons obtained the land William Sorrells got for his service in the French and Indian Wars.

Thank you for your reply. I have since discovered information on my great grandfather William Sorrells. His father was J.S. Sorrells, son of William Snead Sorrells, son of WilliaM Alexander Sorrels, son of Richard David Sorrells, son of Richard Sorrells, and who was the son of John Sorrells(1688-1783). I know that J.S. Sorrells never returned home after the Civil War. His wife Elizabeth Temples remarried in 1866. It has been told in the Sorrels family that J.S. Sorrells started another family in Texas after the Civil War. I can not verify that fact. I have not found any record of his death. He could have changed his name or died in the war unidentified.

The only thing that I have proof on is the marriage date.J.S.Sorrells married Mary Jane ( Mollie ) Williams 5,Dec.1898 in franklin co.,texas.They had a son Joe Sorrells born Nov.1899 in franklin co.,texas. This is the line of Jacob Sorrell who married Susan Swain. Their child was Nathaniel b 18 Dec 1831. He did indeed have a son William Eusebius Sorrells b Nov 1860. I have his wife as Amanda Ellen Fowler. I do not have a child listed as Thad or with his birthyear. I do have a daughter who was b in 1898.

I am researching the Sorrells side of my mothers family. This is what I know: My mother's father was Thad Sorrells(Marion County, MS), his father was William Sorrells( I believe he was born in Texas, I think his father was Nathaniel Sorrells. This is as far as I have gone. My grandfather Thad Sorrells always told my mother that his grandfather had two families. One family before the Civil War in Mississippi and another after the Civil War in Texas. It may be vice versa. I am not sure.I am having trouble locating specifics. There are variations in the spelling of Sorrells and the dates on records. It is also hard to get information on the wives or women. I would appreciate any help or input I could get. The more information I glean the better I can trace the family members. Thanks.
