Sotomayor from Isabela Puerto Rico

Hi,

I would like to find out if anyone has information on the Sotomayor family from the area of Isabela Puerto Rico that may include a connection to the my own branch. I've been reading the posts here but none of teh Sotomayors mentione din them ring a bell - but well, I only know as far back as my great grandfather.

My great grandfather's name was Domingo Sotomayor Echevarría, married to Catalina Romero de la Rosa. They had 4 children: Jorge Sotomayor Romero, Oliva (or Olivia?) Sotomayor Romero, Domingo Sotomayor Romero, and Isabel Sotomayor Romero. My grandfather was Jorge Sotomayor Romero.

Does anyone know of any connections to this branch?

All I know is that family oral history includes being from Spain, which seems to be confirmed by what I've read ont he boards (also from the fact that PR was colonized by the Spanish, haha). My mother thinks her father told her they came from the Canary Islands.

Any help is greatly apprecciated!!!

I have Bernardo Sotomayor Moncada married to Concepción Moncada with only one daughter (I know I am missing other children) and I have her as Angelina Sotomayor Moncada (24 Jun 1890, Ocotal, Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua - 18 Jun 1980, Managua, Nicaragua). Angelina married Alejandro Salvatierra of which I have them listed with only one child: María Celina Salvatierra Sotomayor.

Would like to understand if there are any more or if my informaiton is incorrect.

Is this Dr. Bernardo Sotomayor Moncada married to Isabel Moncada Machado? I have been helping Oscar Sotomayor with the genealogy of the Sotomayor(s) of Nicargua and have an some information as well.

Under "find" do a search for some of the names that you are interested in. All of the names on this site come from the "NOBILIARIO DE CANARIAS, TOMO II," which has a trove of information on all of the names that you mentioned. All I know is that Francisco's father's name was Alejandrino Sotomayor. I was told he was from Spain but have not varified it yet. That's all I know.

Baudilia Forgas y Martinez and Juan Soto y Colon are the names of our grandparents. Francisco Soto y Santiago was Juan's father and Belen Colon y Roman was his mother. So yes, there is a Roman on grandpa's side.

On Baudilia's side, yes, her parents were Roman Forgas and as for Maria Martinez, I saw her second last name as Maldonado on one source but also Delos santos so I'm not sure which to go by.

The person typing this is Orosia's grand daughter. My father asked me to type this information.

Chicho llego a vivir como huesped en mi casa en San Miguel El Salv. posteriormente trabajamos juntos en Los Angeles California, lo perdi de vista a principio de la decada de los 90,nunca volvi a ver a ninguno de sus hermanos y hermanas.

Hi, my name is Raymond Ortiz Sotomayor. I am the son of Orosia Sotomayor. My daughter
discovered documentation on Juan and Baudilia's marriage. It lists
Baudilia's parents names which were Ramon Forgas and Maria Martinez.
This would make Baudilia's last name Forgas y Martinez. It also lists
both her parents as Mulatto and originating from the town of
Barranquitas. I can email you a copy if you wish. I also have a
portrait photo of Alejandrino Sotomayor who was Juan Sotomayor's
father. I was told he originated from Spain but don't know the exact
location.

We are cousins. My great grandparents were Jesus Octavio Hernandez-Soto and Saturnina Soto-Perez del Rio. My grandfather was Segundo Hernandez-Soto. They were from Barrio Rocha,Moca. Looking for info about my Grandfather Victor Sotomayor or Sotomayer. He is believed to have been born in P.R around 1919. He had my father in Brooklyn NY on Oct.9, 1941. Very interested! My father changed his name from Cesar Sotomayor to Burt Dall. My grandfather was Juan Sotomayor born about 1886 in PR.

I hit upon your request while investigating the Sotomayor family for my parents (prof. Jos Viaene & Alphonsine Maesschalck), who are finishing a historical publication about the 16th century Van Dale College in Leuven, Belgium, constructed by canon Peter Van Dale (old money) and his brother Pauwel, sea merchant and sugar baron. Both lived in Antwerp. The Van Dale family had extensive sugar cane plantations on La Palma (Argual), Canary islands and intermarried with the de Sotomayor and Massieu families.

I came to this website by chance. Well...I am a Sotomayor. My father was a clown on a P.R. circus. "The" Sonia Sotomayor - wow - My father has the same name as her dad, but I saw pictures of her dad and they don't even look alike. So that is that. Back in 1998 went to P.R. and for the first time met my father's family - wow I could see me in them it was awsome since I always felt that I didn't resembled my upbringing relatives.
