      <title>Francis Burt Spaulding from Saint Louis, Missouri</title>

      <description>I’m researching Francis Burt Spaulding from Saint Louis, Missouri. According to his death certificate he was born on Jan 28, 1882 in Missouri, and his father was John Spaulding with an unknown mother. However the 1920 census lists Francis as being born in New Hampshire. Francis died Feb 7, 1930 in Saint Louis so the 1930 census is not helpful except for listing his son as having his father’s birthplace in Missouri. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Whenever I research a Francis Spaulding with the birthdate of Jan 28, 1882 an Alfonso Francis Wood Spaulding from New Hampshire comes up. His father was Francis Ashley Spaulding and his mother was Orinda York. Alfonso does not have any death records that I can find as of yet. Two people who coincidentally have the same birthdate and a very similar name is troublesome.  I have nothing for Francis on a 1900 or 1910 census. Anyone with any information would be appreciated.&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>According to The Spalding Memorial by Charles Warren Spaulding and The Spauding Memorial by Samuel Jones Spalding...Priscilla Underwood (1646-1681) was married to Edward Spalding (1635-1707).  This Edward Spalding was the son of Edward Spalding (1596-1670) and Margaret Elyot (Elliot).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I looked in both books and did not find a Thomas Jenkins in the index.  Did your Ann Spalding descend from Edward of Braintree?  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Susan Barrow Spaulding</description>

      <description>I descend from Ann Spalding of St. Mary's, MD (abt1649-1729) who married Thomas Jenkins (1642-1727)...i cannot find a solid lead on her parents...many listings/trees show a Priscilla Underwood who would have married 19 years after she was born...and mostly a father with unknown first name...does anyone have info on this ???...its so frustrating when people list speculation as fact on their trees...grrrrrrrr!!!!!....mike</description>

      <description>hi,&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;i haven't looked at these posts in years and just did. i don't remember how i got to an earl spaulding but i wanted to reply to this. i believe originally i was trying to find out infos on my father's father's family. his parents were william and maria i was told. i don't have exact info on where my dad's dad was even born. he died and was burried in los angeles and is at calvary catholic cemetery in an unmarked grave. he died two years before i as born. a very illusive man. even his kids didn't know much about him. i only know he had one of his siblings that was supposed to of been an attorney in lousiana. my grandfather was born in 1883 i think in february. i don't know about any siblings or anything. he was supposed to of been married before my grandma who was auda and i don't know the prior wife's name at all of anything else. i barely know who i am ☺  my dad didn't even know his dad had a u in the last name. my dad is a spalding. and i only found out about my grandfather having the u in spaulding when i called the cemetery. &lt;a href="mailto://mail4leah@yahoo.com"&gt;mail4leah@yahoo.com&lt;/a&gt;</description>

It does look as though Judah's age at death could be 41 which would mean she was born about 1783 and that would mean she married Joseph Spaulding when she was about 17. Thank you.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;What I should have stated in my first post was that the Joseph Spaulding who married Juda Simmons was born 9 Feb 1771 in Tewksbury, Middlesex Co., MA.  His parents were Sampson Spaulding and Experience Merrill.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I don't have Juda Simmons'es birth date but she would have been a contemporary of her husband's, probably born in the 1770's.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Thanks once again for remembering my post.  </description>

      <description>I am searching for anything relating to the person above, in hopes of finding long lost 'cousin', Harry. His father was also named Henry Wilson, but called Will by his sister, Myra Worthington Spaulding Herron, of Alpena, Michigan. Elder Will was born in Wisconsin to David Worthington Spaulding and Elizabeth (Libby) Christina Hingley. They all moved to Alpena, and after his father's death, elder Will became a sailor on the great lakes. He died on the ship Gehm in Minominee, Michigan, and his son Harry was on the ship with him at the time. Harry was born about 1905, so may well have passed on by now. I'd love to find if he had family, as I believe that he married. &lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>Looking for info regarding Susan Spaulding (have also seen her name as Lou, Louvestie and Mamie).  She was born around 1863 in Woodford Co., KY according to Census records.  I do not know who her parents were.  She married Peter Younger in 1879 in Grant Co., KY.  They had 7 children.  By 1900 she disappears from the Census and Peter is listed as a widow in the Scott Co census.  Peter died in 1908 in Randolph Co., IN.  Would love to talk to anyone with any info.</description>

      <title>Joseph Spaulding, Juda Simmons, Mass., parents of Aldophus?</title>

      <description>I am a Simmons researcher and I'm currently trying to find information on the children of Job Simmons and Elizabeth Howland Simmons of Worcester Co., MA.  At this time my theory is that Joseph Spaulding, born in 1771, MA who died in Erie Co., PA may have been a son-in-law.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My many great grandmother Mercy Simmons md. Jonathan Lackey.  Her sister Juda "Judith" Simmons married Joseph Spaulding as per the record shown below.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Vital Records of Spencer, Ma To the end of the year 1849. &lt;br&gt;Worcester, Massachusetts: Published by Franklin P. Rice, Trustee of the Fund, 1909&lt;br&gt;SPOLDEN, Joseph of Heath and Juda Simmons of Brookfield, &lt;br&gt;June 22, 1800.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;According to census records Joseph Spaulding was in Hampshire Co., MA in 1800, and in Chenango Co., NY in 1810 and 30.  By 1840 he was in Erie Co., PA.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My Mercy Simmons Lackey moved with her husbands family to Addison Co., VT around 1800 but stayed only a few years and then moved on to Essex Co., NY.  From there the Lackey's moved for a time to Chenango Co., NY where the Spauldings lived.  Her Chenango Co., residence was between census records but Mercy witnessed a will in Chenango in 1813 and her oldest daughter also married there in 1816.&lt;br&gt;In 1820 Mercy and Jonathan were in Madison Co., NY and then in 1830 in Oswego Co., NY.  The last record found of Mercy Simmons Lackey is in 1836.  What became of them after this hasn't been discovered.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Some of their children, meanwhile, removed from Oswego Co. NY to Erie and Crawford Co., PA in the mid-1830's and this is where we again see a Spaulding and Simmons/Lackey connection.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;~~1840 Census (Listed in exact order as enumerated)&lt;br&gt;PA, Erie Co, Elk Creek, PA, Page 182&lt;br&gt;LACKEY, Jonathan&lt;br&gt;Featherston, Wm.&lt;br&gt;Winchester, Danl. &lt;br&gt;SPALDING, Adolphus&lt;br&gt;SPALDING, Joseph Jr.&lt;br&gt;SPALDING, Joseph, 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 1 -- 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The age for Joseph's wife in 1840 is too young to be Juda Simmons so it's possible Juda died sometime before this and Joseph remarried.  Online files give his wife's name as Mehitable but I've not seen any source for this information.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Another reason I suspect the relationship between this Joseph Spaulding and my Simmons line is the naming of one of his son's as Job, which was Juda Simmons' father's name.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;If anyone can speak to this theory, for or against, I'd really appreciate it. &lt;br&gt;Susan Davis</description>

      <description>I have had an extremely hard finding the correct info for my grandfather. Even though I knew my great-grandmother it certainly wasn't well. Finding my grandfather's father was a real challenge also. I sent away for his birth certificate months ago but have received nothing in return. Won't do that again. My grandfather was born in Vermont on 6/23/1886. I can find no marriage certificate for George and Charlotte (Lottie. I know my great-grandmother was married several times and considered a "loose" woman by the family. She certainly scared me!</description>

      <description>I am trying to find info on the parentage of my grandfather, Leon E Spaulding. According to his draft registrations, his father was George C Spaulding and his mother (this is a positive) was Charlotte (Lottie) Pitkin Spaulding. My great-grandmother was remarried to a Dunbar by the time my grandfather was 10. I have found a George C who fits the timeline but the info I find is Father: Samuel Spaulding &amp;amp; Mother: Olive Smith. Another records his parents as: George T Spaulding &amp;amp; Mother: Maria M. Wives: Adeline Stricker &amp;amp; Lillian Jones both marring him in 1890. My grandfather was born in 1888. Birthdate and death indicate this is the same man. Can anyone help with this puzzle???</description>

      <description>Linda, sorry I didn't get to this until today.  Hopefully it was worth the wait!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Looks as though I'll have to do this in several posts.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Besides the documents I mentioned previously, I found an 1850 census for Elisa H. Pitkin's first family and a map showing the location of his property.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;These two things may or may not be related to your family:  Elisa Pitkin is mentioned in the American Genealogical-Biographical Index as part of a memorial to the descendants of John Alden.  I also found part of an application for Sons of the American Revolution for Elisha Pitkin. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;C</description>

I got her maiden name from Leon Elbert Spaulding's marriage license.  It confirmed his father was George Spaulding.&lt;br&gt;-----&lt;br&gt;1880-VT-Windsor Co.-Hartland&lt;br&gt;Pitkin family:  Elshue H. 71, Ann 51, Harriet C. 15, Charlotte E. 13, and Sidney R. 9&lt;br&gt;-----&lt;br&gt;1900-VT-Windsor Co.-Hartland&lt;br&gt;Dunbar family:  Alfred 33 (b Jan 1867 NY), Lottie E. 33 (b July 1866 VT), Alfred S. 3 (b Mar 1897 VT), Spaulding, Leon E. 13 (b June 1886 VT)&lt;br&gt;Alfred and Lottie had been married 5 years.  She reported having three children, all living.  Don't know who the third child was.&lt;br&gt;-----&lt;br&gt;1920-NH-Grafton Co.-Lyme&lt;br&gt;Eastman family:  James C. 64, Anabel 57, Ray J. 33 (son),&lt;br&gt;Dunbar, Charlotte E. 53 (sister)  &lt;br&gt;She reported that she was married and working as a housekeeper for a private family.  &lt;br&gt;I don't know whose sister she was.  Anabel's?  But I didn't find a record of an Anabel with the Pitkin family.&lt;br&gt;-----&lt;br&gt;That's all I could find.  I couldn't find a death record for her.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I did trace her son Leon through to 1942 (World War II Draft Registration).  Leon was born 23 June 1886 in Hartland, VT.  He married Daisy A. Dowse on 4 Nov 1909.  They lived in Lebanon, Grafton Co., NH.  They had two children that I found:  Joyce E. b abt 1915, and Clayton E. b abt 1923.  Leon died July 1962 in NH.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I can provide documents if you wish.  Let me know.&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>I am trying to find any information regarding my great grandparents. My great grandmother married and divorced a few times the first time to George resulting in the birth of Leon Elbert Spaulding. Her birth was 1885-86 I believe. His was (by my figuring) around 1855-1865. I am assuming they were married as my grandfather was a Spaulding (she was a scandalous woman). She died around 1955-1960 a Dunbar.       <description>My cousin Shirley is a Spaulding. I have been looking up here family for her. This is what I have so far:A W Spaulding And wife Alma was the father of George R. Spaulding. He married Ruth M. Parker on 3 July, 1888. Their children were Earl 1891, Robert 1894, Arthur 1895 or 6. That was the 1910 census.&lt;br&gt;Then Earl married Pearl and had these children: Floyd ( my Uncle) 1912, Hazel 1915, Isabella 1917, Raymond 1918, Norman 1918 or 19, and a family by the name of Shepard lived with them, Mary age 25, Orvell age 9, and Florence age 2.By 1930 2 more children were born to Earl and Pearl, they were Eva 1925 and Arnold 1929. Shirley said there was one more after that. &lt;br&gt;I don't know if any of this can help you or not.</description>

      <description>Hello,&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I am finally ready to begin to delve into the Spaulding side of my family and seem to be hitting my head against a wall. My mother's side of the family was easy as was my grandmother Daisy Dowse Spaulding.I've been in contact with several other Spauldings and hopefully between all of us we can all get some answers. I have wondered why the spelling change also and certainly wish I was related to the Spaldings in the athletic business.       <description>I have been mulling through online threads, even searched through the The Spalding Memorial looking for further connections with him. The information I have is he was born around 1758, VA, married to Elizabeth Unknown around 1772, and passed away around 6/29/1824 in Prince Edward, VA. I have also read it is assumed he relocated perhaps from Scotland. Any information would be great. Also, any information on why his kin and later were "Spaulding" and not "Spalding".&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>Linda, thanks so much for your reply. My mother never spoke about her family and until I started doing this I had never even seen a picture of her.  We do have an old photo of Charles, her dad, and now that I am getting into this I am finding that her sister has taken extrodinary measures to make sure her kids know all about family history.  She is the one supplying pictures and stories.  Without her and my cousins I would have no idea.  My dad would speak more about his family and I am fortunate to have had a great aunt that kept excellent records.  It is just a matter of straightening a few things, hence my confusion about the Goodell sisters.  I would love contact as most of this branch of the family is gone.  My brother is the only one to carry on the name as dad only had one sister that never married. Dates are a major problem with me and I must not be doing research right as I find it extremely time consuming.  I'll get better.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Have a good one and look forward to future communication.       <description>Hello Linda, i also am new to learning this. i would love to have contact with any one in the family. i am just now learning out about the family, i havent made to Elbert side yet, i am atempting to get death cert on Elwood to learn who his parents were and if any siblings. My dad never really talked much about the family, i know there were at least 5 childred that Elwood and Elizabeth.(james, june, ernie, allan, leonard). its sad we dont know more before we loose the ones with all the knowledge. i have heard that Elwoods farther, my great grandfather was stoned to death in NH for well not being nice...and thats why he is not spoke of often, as soon as i can find out more i will keep you posted.&lt;br&gt;Nice to meet you.&lt;br&gt;Linda Ann&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi Linda, this is Linda Spaulding also.  Now this is very interesting.  I have very little pertaining to the Spaulding side of the tree.  My great aunts were great about keeping books on the Dowse side but no one on the Spaulding side.  My grandfather was Leon Elbert.  I vaguely remember an Elwood and Ernest on my rambles.  Were these brothers of My grandfather?  I'm new at this and like you this began as a project when my parents died last year.  Mom never spoke about her side of the family but fortunately she has a remaining sister that at the age of 87 has wonderful recall of the past.  My cousins have story after story of the Filbert family while mom never told us anything.  I need to know why and my cousins and aunt have been wonderful about filling me in.  However, now I have a major problem finding Spauldings and so thank you for writing.  May I contact you again should I have any questions?
