Hi Bob.
John George Sperrin(g) was born around 1798. he appears on the 1851 census as George J Sperring 2 Regents Cottages, Weston-super-Mare with his wife Jane and daughter Maria and son Samuel. In the 1861 Census as George Sperring with his wife Jane in 2 York Street, Weston-super-mare along with the son Samuel. In the 1871 Census Jane is now living with her grandaughter Susanna Nutt and her husband Henry. Between 1861 and 1871 there are 2 local deaths of named John Sperrin. One in 1862 and the other one in 1870 I suspect this 2nd one to be my gg grandfather. Jane died in 1876 in Weston-super-Mare. In 1840 John George had abandoned Jane and the children. In 1841 several of their children are living in Kenn Road Clevedon with male and female Bennetts. I am not sure why they are not with mother or father or who the bennetts are. John George and Jane were re-united sometime after 1841 when she was removed from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare by Bristol Churchwardens and overseers of the poor. The reason for this is that John had paid rates in WSM and part of this is the poor rate, therefore Jane was removed to the parish that her husband paid poor rate in. The family however never seemed to be reunited all together again.
Any info you can help me with would be great, hope to hear from you soon
Tony

hi its bob spearing.

i just sent you my spreadsheet and forgot to mention one important fact. there are no native chilcompton or midsomer norton groups. they had to come from somewhere else prior to 1800. as i mention, east harptree seems to be the closest as it is only 3 miles from chilcompton. east harptree goes way back.

Hi Bob

I would be glad to take a look at your spreadsheet

My biggest problem is that the Sperrings in the 18th century seemed to favor James and John a lot and I am having trouble really figuring out who is who

my e-mail is infogoddess@hotmail.com

thanks

fiona

hi fiona,

i am still working on my spreadsheet. but it seems that i can make a good case for your family being in east harptree somerset earlier.

i am stalled a bit though as my 80 y/o dad fell this week.

i would like to send you my spreadsheet and some findings though. do you have an email i could send an excel spreadsheet to? my email is morganplace1@yahoo.com.

also, someone in rootsweb.com has a tree with your james being the son of a george and elizabeth. did you know this?
there is also a suspect tree on rootsweb with a similar james being born to a william and ann.

i can make a case from my spreadsheet for george being your james' father but it is a one entry source from chelwood near chilcompton.

sincerely

bob

Hi Bob.
Its nice to hear from you.
I have traced back most of my Sperrins (sometimes named Sperring)to 1800. This Sperrin is my great great grandfather John George who was born around 1798 possibly in Blagdon, Somerset,UK. He married a Jane Coulter in Tavistock, Devon, UK in August 1817. They went on to have possibly up to 17 children (Jane says 17 in a newspaper article in the mid 1800's ) I do have possible parents of Jane, but not for John George.

Even in 1974 in local directories my name was pronounced Sperring, also my father in previous years, so i can see how Sperrins and Sperrings etc, get muddled up.

Best Regards
Tony( Sperrin )

hi fiona, this is bob spearing with the spreadsheet. you'd know me from the facebook page. i did the spreadsheet for the families on the spearin surname project website.

currently i am working on somerset from 1700 to 1852. i already did 1275 a.d. to 1700 a.d.

right now i just finished the sperrins and spearings for 1700 to 1852.

next i am doing spering and sperring. i should be done within the month. i have thousands of names. your family in chilcompton will be there!!

if you give me a few weeks, i'll send you ALL of Somerset!! from 1275 to 1852. in that way you can spend hours picking the info apart!!!

i am stopping at 1852 because the censuses were in existance at that point.

Also that alot of meals my grand mother prepared when we were children originated in Germany. This strictly speculation though.
My name is James Sperring ,I live in Florida but i'm originaly from Indiana and i was born in Pennsylvania

My grandmother was Mildred Sperring born in roughly 1891 but do not know where in the UK for certain. Listed on her marriage certificate was her father's name of William John Sperring and noted his trade to be that of a carpenter.
Cannot link her properly to a Sperring family although keep coming up with family in Essex with the father's name listed as John Sperring.
Mildred married by grandfather (Edgar Richard Taylor) in Bristol UK in 1914. My mother was born in 1915. She disappeared shortly after my mother's birth. They divorced in 1930 in Bristol, but do not know where she went or if she remarried. My mother had no further contact as she was brought up by her paternal grandparents in Bristol until her marriage to my father. Edgar Taylor remarried and had another daugher, whom I have had contact with.
Anyone know anything re this line of family?
Hi Jen, When you get to be my age genealogy is one of the few things you can still be interested in. So I'm happy to tell you what I know (which isn't a whole lot). My great grandfather was James Farrell (1824-?), don't have any data on his wife. In addition to my grandmother, Lilly J. (1861-1916) James had a son, Joseph (1856-?)who married a Grace Gunning (1856-?). This couple had 5 kids, and I have only their birth years, Maggie (1884), Clarence (1887), Grace (1888), Samuel (1892)and Joseph (1897). Grace married a Robert L. Sperring (1886) and my records show that they had one child, Robert J. (1905). I also believe that the son, Joseph, married a Margaret D (1899)(last name unknown)and they had 2 daughters Jacqueline Farrell (1919) and Natalia Farrell (1920). Wish I could tell you more but that's all I have. Regards, Jim Donovan, Media, PA

Corrina, My name is Terry Sperring, I must be part of the family you're inquiring about. My father John Sperring was born in Kangaroo Valley NSW (close to Nowra) to Jack and Olive Sperring, When I was very young I had an Aunty Daphne and Uncle Ernie, and yes they had 7 children, Harold, Bill, George, Kevin, Lesley, Valerie and Dawn. They lived in Woonona NSW which is where I grew up. I think my grandfather (Sperring) was your grandmothers brother. Whilst I'm not in touch with too many these days, I may be able to help you, please contact me via email and we'll see happens. Cheers ..

Agnes was born in Grosmont, Nr. Abergavenny on the Welsh Border. Would there be any chance your family may be connected. I would be grateful for a reply.

Abergavenny on the Welsh Border, UK. Agnes was born in 1849. Do not know her husband's christian name. She had 3 sons and 5 daughters, the eldest daughter was Lucy Sperring. They all emigrated to America in late 1800's or early 1900's. Are they on your family tree please?
