Hi, I'm a Spilman that descends from one of the Indiana lines. I have a copy of the Spilman Papers here that might prove useful, but you can search that online via Ancestry. Also the book on the Spilmans by John Jasper Spilman.

I'm not sure I can be helpful to you. "Young Tom" and two of his brothers left Virginia and moved to Kentucky. By about 1829 to 1832 or so, William moved from Kentucky to Indiana, because Kentucky was a slave state, and he did not support slavery.

The family eventually settled in and around Crawfordsville, where my grandfather, Theodore Louis, was born. He moved to Viginia in 1920, and that's where my dad was raised.

I feel pretty confident that your line is related somehow ... Perhaps I can dig around for you in my book. Both books I mentioned are here on Ancestry.

From a book on the History of Wilson Co, KS: (paraphrased) John Fisher, son of Daniel Fisher and Julia Armstrong Fisher, b 11 Apr 1803, near Scuppernong, NC, grew up mainly in Posey and Gibson Counties, IN. John Fisher married Sarah Spillman in Gibson County about 1824 and spent most of his life there, then in DeWitt Co, IL, then in Wilson Co, KS, where his son James Fisher and his wife Deborah Chazem also settled. (This info comes from James Fisher who was alive in 1902.)

Sarah Spillman was a dau of James Spillman and was born near Versailes, Woodford C. KY, 15 Apr 1798, her parents migrating from Yadkin Co, NC to KY in the days of Daniel Boone and later to S IN where their dau met and married John Fisher. Sarah Spillman Fisher died in Wison Co, KS 18 Jen 1874.
John and Sarah Spillman Fisher had seven children, five of whom became grown: James, Nancy, Daniel, Elizabeth and Richard. Nancy married William B. Schenck, Daniel died in Vanderberg Co IN, Elizabeth never married and Richard went west during Pike's Peak excitement about 1859 and "has never been heard of since." (info taken for book in 1902.) I have a bit more on the families that went to Wilson Co, KS with the Fishers in 1870.

Daniel B. Fisher, another son of Daniel Fisher and Julia Armstrong and brother to John Fisher, married as his second wife, Rhoda Spillman, probably the dau of Samuel Spillman and Ellen Hunter? Their children were Samuel Fisher and Sarah Elizabeth Fisher. Rhoda and Daniel Fisher are both buried in Keensburg, Wabash Co, IL, in Coffee Cemetery.

John b abt 1679 in Germany marr Mary Elizabeth ( Maria ) Fishback dau of Philip Fishback & Elizabeth ( Elsbeth ) Heimback/Hanback. Need parents & siblings for John. They are part of the Germanny Germans who settled in Orange Co Va in 1714. Need children for John & Mary.
Elizabeth also b abt 1679. Have no info on her.

Son of Nancy & Robert was Robert Jr. b abt 1795. He marr Margaret Sanders/Saunders 16 Feb 1829. Also need her parents & siblings. Have two sons for Robert & Margaret.
8. Susan E. b abt 1780 in Culpeper Co marr James E. Coons/Knootz 25 Feb 1850. Need her parents & siblings. James was the son of Joseph Coons/Knootz Jr. & Caterine Hopper. Son of Susan & James was Charles Sr. b abt 1850. Charles marr Sally Miller. Also need her parents & siblings. Have six children for Charles & Sally.
9. ? b abt 1885 in King George Co marr Josephine Spillman ( they were probably cousins ) dau of Joseph M. Spillman & Martha Ann Potts. Need Mr. Spillman's name & his parents & siblings. Also need children for Mr. Spillman & Josephine.

So far, I've only found them in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records. I have transcribed the 1910 and 1920 here for you. The 1930 was so faded that it was nearly impossible to read it. I have also attached the WW1 Draft registration card for Henry.

Henry Y. Spillman born Dec. 22, 1872 died Dec. 7, 1950 married to Endor Spillman born June 5, 1874 died Feb. 3, 1963. Live in Bogalusa Louisiana was not born here. Just beginnin research. They are my husband's great grandparents. One son was Jerry E. Spillman born Aug. 6, 1916 died July 9, 1953 served in the US Navy World War II.

Can you give us a little more information so we might be able to help you?

When were Henry and Endora born?

Were they born in Bogalusa, LA? Did they move there from somewhere else?

Do you know the maiden name of Endora?

Where have you already searched? What resources have you already used? Have you tracked them thru the census?

Are you just beginning your research or have you been doing it for many years. Do you already have most of the info and just need to fill in around the edges as it were?

Laura Belle Osborn's death certificate names CW and Anna Browning as parents. It's in the MO death certificate database.

C. W. is Caswell W. Spillman b. 9/25/1836 Trimble Co. KY d. 7//11/1924 in Liberty MO. Married Margarette Amanda Browing on 2/13/1861 in Henry Co. KY. Margarette was b. 1841 in KY, d. 5/18/1886 in Gentry Co. MO, buried in
McFall Cemetery.
They came to MO about 1880, ran a hotel in McFall.
They had 8 children, 7 girls and one boy.
Only have info on the boy - William T. 'Jack' b. 12/12/1880
Have photo of Caswell.
Caswell is 1C3R to me.

I believe he was born in Ill. Dec 3, 1884. He is mentioned in the 1920 cencus head of house hold. and again in the 1930 cencus as ben spillman.

My great grandfathers name is Julius Martin Spillman he was married to Carrie Ellen Quimby for a time. He was born dec 3 1884 and died jun 29 1958. I can't find his parents.

Also looking for info on George Spillman, DOB 02/25/1886 in Ky. - my Ggfather. He (George)may have had two sisters, Lucinda (born 02/02/1889) and Tempa Jane (born 1890).

The Spilman name can be traced back to Jamestown and there is some conflict about that Spilman. The Jamestown Diaries indicate that he died without issue(children), but there is also some indication that he was "married" to Martha Fox a
Powhatan woman. There is no written record of a marriage from 1606. This Henry Spilman was a young teenager when he arrived in Jamestown. After his death his Brother Thomas came to America from England to settle his estate. There is no proof that this Henry Spilman was directly to Sir Henry Spilman of England, but he may have been a nephew. With the Spilman family arriving in the 1600, it most likely that they married Native American women. I had a Great Uncle who's name was William Thomas Ross Spilman. There are no other males names Ross in the Spilman Family, However his mother's family is from Tennessese and it appears that there was a connection to John Ross (Last leader of the Cherokee before the trail of tears)through one of his sisters.

There are 2 Spilman/Spillman Families one is English the other is German. I have no information on the Family from Germany. It is difficult to trace these families and keep them seperate as they used the same first names and both were in basically the same area of Kentucky. Which family are you researching. The James, Robert and Thomas Spilman you mentioned are English, I have never found a Robert in the German family prior to about 1850.
The info I have on Samuel Spillman is that his paretns were Hiram Spilman and Elizabeth Kitchen. He was born in 1835 in KY and died in 1925. He was probably in the Civil War and there should be military records on him. Both families followed a similar emmigration route and endednup in Indianna and Iowa.

Just to start this post of right my John Spilmans middle name was Thomas b 4 Feb 1832 Hancock County IN d 8 Mar 1912 in Ellsworth County KS He married Nancy Gray Robinson Bradley They had 11 children. The reason I have listed this the way I have is that there are at least 3 other John Spil(l)mans so I thought it would be easier this way. If this matches your John let me know.

I am researching my line and I don't have anything farther back than my ggrandfather for certain.

names I do have and have verified are:
Orra (Ora) Emmit b.15 Apr.1867 in IA,d.20 Aug 1941 in CO m.5 Jan 1899 to Etta Brooks in KS Their children were Chester B.,Lila M.,Emma M.,Orra Clifford,Ruth,Wilber,George W.,and Vera

My G-Grandmother was Eliza Spillman from Gibson Co Indiana she married Lewis S. Norman. Have you ran across her name in your research?

Eliza Ann Spillman b June 2, 1849 IN, I think her Father may have been Sanders T Spillman and Mother Mary Ann ?, I am just trying to get more information.
Eliza married Lewis S Norman Aug 30, 1866 Gibson Co IN. Eliza died in May 15, 1898 and buried at Hayes Cem. Monroe Co IN.
