Did you find out where Peter was buried? Have you heard anything through the years about Charles, Mary Ann and kids? I have felt like they moved out of Arkansas. Have you found any records about Peter serving in Revolutionary War? The only thing I know about Peter is what is written in the Ramick history and what Rev. Godfrey said in his journal. Thanks for replying.

Do you know where Peter & wife are buried? How are you related to Samuel? Mary Ann was married to my grtgrtgrdfather Charles Spires. I cannot find Charles, Mary Ann and most of children after 1860 AR census. In 1870, my grtgrdfather Daniel Spires and I "assume" sister Matilda were living with their aunt Sarah Ramick Taylor. I do not know what happened to Matilda after 1870 (married ?). Have you been to Ramick cemetery outside of Pine Bluff? If you live close enough maybe we can compare info. If not we can correspond by e-mail or on ancestry.com.

This is the best record I have found:
http://www.agsgenealogy.org/databases/pdffiles/AFH/AFH181Mar...

Peter was born in 1762. His wife'S name is not known to me. According to the Journal of Rev. Godfrey Drehr which we read on microfilm in the South Carolinians Library at the University of S. C., one entry made showed Peter Ramick's wife died Saturday, October 14, 1837. and her funeral was preached by Godfrey Drehr. a Lutheran Minister. and he preached from Col. 3.4. Another entry made by Rev. Drehr showed Peter was given the sacrament on Good Friday, 1845. Following is an obituary taken from the book, "Southern Christian Advocate,II by Brent Holcomb; 'Issue of August 25, 1848 - Southern Christian Advocate - Died in Lexington Dist., S. C., July 22d, 184a, Peter Ramick, aged 86 years, an old revolutionary soldier,".a member of the Lutheran Church from his youth to the time of his decease..••"

I came across a death certificate for Polly Colwell, widow of Jacob Colwell (Caldwell) and daughter of John Sparr. From other sources I know she married in Gallia County, Ohio.

I believe that this person was Mary Spires, daughter of John and Phoebe Spires, but the date of birth on this document is 10 March 1829. Most of the information on John Spires suggests that his daughter Mary was either born in 1826 or 1840. I have seen no citations for either date on these trees.

I would like to know from those better acquainted with the Spires line if it is likely that this record is for Mary Spires in John & Phoebe's tree.

You can view the image at...

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/20740/person/-1825757020/medi...

Mark A Caldwell

Tammy,
Would your line be James Edward and Minnie Maxwell Powers Spires? Their children are James, Gerald, Roger, Bobby, Tony and Lavonda Spires. If so then Gerald Spires was living in Ocilla, GA in 2006, when his mother died. This line comes from Tifton, GA. His brothers Bobby, Roger and Tony were still living in Tifton in 2006.
Hope this helps in your search.

My first Spires I found was Robert Spires on the 1850 census in Lafayette Co. MS. He was married to Julia Hale Spires. They were both born in NC. They were in MS as early as 1841, as their oldest son was born in 1842. They hmay have come to TN first, as David Hale and wife Elizabeth were on the 1840 census for Lafayette Co.Ms. It does not show Robert Spires, but he is the only Spires in the county. I will share all my info with you. Give me any info you have, maybe we can connect. Barbara

Does anyone have any information on a Spires Chemist in Boston during the second world war. The owners were relatives of my grandmother Brayshaw (nee Mundy). They were visited by my uncle during the war when he was on leave from his ship but nothing is known of them since. The Spires (Spears? Spiers?) originally came from England. Any information would be appreciated.

I am very interested in the information you have. I have just recently started researching my ancestry. I come down the line through Richar's brother John. He is my 4th great-grandfather. I've also been looking for their parents. Some say their father was Richard, born in Maryland in 1730 but I haven't been able to confirm this.

Thanks for any halp.
Kathy kwilson_4@windstream.net

Your John R. Spires sounds like the John Richard Spires/Spiers buried at The Rocks Church Island in Lake Marion S. C. born 10-17-1852 and died 5-12-1919. He married Mary McKelvey Spires/Spiers born 8-30-1860 and died 1-11-1935 and she too is buried at The Rocks Church Island in Lake Marion S. C.

We met these VA and NC Spiers that day for a civil war reenactment that the local SCV and UDC chapter in S. C. held and honored the fallen. These VA/NC family insisted that their name was correct by spelling it Spiers and not like it is in S. C. Spires. The one lady quickly corrected my mother and informed her that they were not related to the Spries family of S. C. They were interesting to meet to say the least.

The SCV (Sons of the Confederate Veteran) were most hospitable they carted us on boats to this island in Lake Marion.

There were approx. five additional graves with the Spires name on them I am sure would be children and relatives.

We held the Spires/Sanford/Mixon Reunion annually up until a few years ago in Fitzgerald, GA. My cousin, Sylvia Butts (Tampa, FL)(daughter of Martha Lou Taylor), as well as my brother, Harrell Spires (Jacksonville, FL) (Grandson of LouAner Sanford Spires), coordinated it until it ended.

Basically, the family stopped attending so it was reduced to a small gathering of family members @ a private home every year on Labor Day.

johnny spires was born in 1783 in South Carolina. In the 1880 census he listed that both he and his parents were born there. I have located Francis Spires in the 1790 census in South Carolina. He is the ONLY Spires listed. It states that he had 2 WM under the age of 16. My hunch is that Francis Spires is the father of John Spires. I cannot find any evidence that supports this 100%. Has anyone else had any theories? Can you prove or disprove mine? I'm stuck and need some help!

Sorry, I have no more information on Birdie Spires. Stanley Jake Gilpin is buried in West Union Cemetery, Adams Co., OH. If I find anything I will gladly share it.
Joe Bradford
Where was your Birdie Spires located? I am looking for a Birdie Spires, DOB unknown, but her mother's obituary in 1950 said she was married to a Sinard. Could they be the same person...this Birdie would have been from Grainger Co., TN and her father was Sherman Spires. Could she have married a Gilpin after the Sinard?

Sherman and Maude (Lee) Spires Family-Grainger Co., TN

Sherman Spires (1864-1934, buried Grainger Co., TN) married 2nd Maude Lee in 1909 Grainger Co., TN. Accoridng to Maude's obituary (1883-1950), they had these children, although I could never find them all living with them in the census: Jessie Mae, Lemmie, Harley or Harlan, Martha, Mary and Birdie. These children were all alive when their mother died in 1950. I would like to be in contact with a member of this family who can help me piece the family together. For instance, her daughter was called Mary Coffey in the Maud's obituary, I believe that she married Avery Coffey, but I would like to be sure. Her obituary also says that her daughter Birdie married Walter Sinard. I cannot find a trace of Walter Sinard anywhere. Lemmie did not marry but I am not sure if the other son was Harley or Harland and I don't know anyting about Martha. Any help on any portion of this family would be so much appeciated...sometiems even the slightest hint helps!
