This appears to be the Romanian-born SCHWARTZ/SPITZER family in the 1910 Federal Census for Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Note that two of Clara's SPITZER brothers (Joe and Sam) are living with them.

Suggestion: check the World War I Draft Registration; the 1920 and 1930 Federal Censuses; and all available birth/marriage/death listings; all for the Chicago/Cook County area. Also, the Social Security Death Index nationwide.

Good luck!

I am related to this family line: Will and Charlie were brothers and married sisters: Will first married Emma Russell(children - Eunice and Steve) who died and then married Ruth Russell, also a sister. So the story goes, Ruth did not want another woman raising her sister's children, so Will(William) married. Charlie Stephen, my g-g garndfather, married Mary(Mollie) Virginia Russell who was a sister to Emma and Ruth. And Yes, there are lot of William's in the Spitzer family. Be Careful.
Dear Walter,
I am a female descendant of the Spitzer line that was from Rockingham County, VA and am hoping to find more about the line going way, way back a long time ago. We have done some tests on www.familytreedna.com (the family finder test, and mtDNA test, for example) but we do not have any male relatives who are descendants of the Spitzer side, so we cannot take the Y-DNA test to find out where that line originated, etc. If you are ever interested in pursuing this aspect of genealogy, please know that it will be a great help to know this side of our family.
Thank you!
All the best,
Sarah

Dear Ronald,
I am a female descendant of the Spitzer line and am trying to find out more about the line way, way back, even before 1322. We have done some testing with www.familytreedna.com and the "family finder test," was really interesting, but we do not have any male descendants of the Spitzer side to do the Y-DNA testing to see where the Spitzer side originates. If you are ever interested in pursuing this aspect of your genealogy, it would be a Godsend for me to know this last part of our family tree.
All the best,
Sarah

Sherman & Francis O. Spitzer > Delilah Spitzer-Long or Delilah Long-Long

After some research, I have found a reference that makes me a bit uneasy. My grandmother, Franciola- aka Francis O, or Francis, was a Spitzer, and married into the Long family via my grandfather.
Franciola's mother was Delilah, married to a man named Sherman Spitzer. But the more trees I look at, the more times I see her referred to as "Delilah "Lila" Long- Long???? If her maiden name is Long, then this means that my grandfather, quite possibly, knowingly or unknowingly married into his own family.
Frances' siblings include-
Emerson Calvin, married to an Edna Smith-
Willie- either Willie D. or Willie O.-
James-
Mary F-
Can anyone out there refute or confirm this information? Was Delilah's maiden name Long, or did she remarry a Long AFTER having children with Sherman Spitzer?

And a final question. I keep finding census records and family tree references that are, at times, listing "Franciola/Francis O" and "Mary F" as the same person. Does anyone know?

I am also descended from Johann, through his son Daniel, his son Jacob, his son William Sherman, and Sherman's daughter, (this is where the census records are confusing me- )either Franciola, or "Mary F" (which could stand for Mary Franciola- I keep getting census records wanting me to replace the names with each other, as if they were the same person) is my great grandmother. Her son is my grandfather, etc. It's about this area where my tree gets confusing. Apparently ancestry has absolutely no record of my grandfather anywhere. But anyways, hello distant relative! :)

Hello All

My original posting in 2005 has the names of Celia & Samuel Steiner and those were their american names. I have just had their tombstone translated and their names are listed as follows; Tzipporah Spitzer daughter of Pessachiah and Israel Steiner son of Mayer/Mier/Meyer. According to the death record for Celia her parents are listed as Joseph & Theresa Klien. According to Samuel Steiner's death record his mother's first name was Mina but unknown for the father. I believe the parents of Samuel to be a Marcus or Meyer Steiner & Mina Schwarz/Schwartz. I would love any and all information on them. They were from Hungary and I believe from Tepliz. Celia & Samuel Steiner were my great-great-grandparents on my dads side of the family.
