Sorry,I'm a little late to the conversation, my grandfather is Eddleman Spivey. I am Kirk Pendergras. Have you tried searching the http://1940census.archives.gov/ I don't know if they have finished the full list but it might be helpful to you all. Please email me at kpend21@yahoo.com I have lost contact with most of the Spivey relatives.

Kirk

If anyone could help I'd be grateful! Looking for a woman possibly named Mary Spivey. Or atleast was a Spivey. My gran was adopted and all she knows of the woman that was her mom is that her name is supposedly Mary Spivey. Maybe one of your relatives talked of giving away a child? Rankin county Mississippi.

My gran is a red head(the only one in our family)
(maybe her mom was one? a brunette or red head)

When is the Spivey family reunion in Nacog.???? I am a Moon related to the East Texas Spiveys through Moses Spivey and Rebecca Gladdish. Moses Spivey was the grandfather of Rolley (aka Raleigh Moon) of Georgia (documented).

I have Moon relatives close to Nacog. and I might be able to get them to visit your reunion and perhaps learn some more Spivey/Moon connections.

Michelle Cabaniss

There are some areas I need more documents on and then I can put out a report. Keep in touch and I will be happy to share.

Who were your parents, grandparents etc. Perhaps I can help you get started.

Michelle Cabaniss

I appreciate your willingness to help see if we can get the Spiveys/Moons together. HA. We also think maybe John Moon b. 1774 married Nancy Spivey 1779. It appears both families were in Columbia Cty, GA when Rolley aka Raleigh Moon was born in 1800 (verified by his records signed by him). John William we have also suspected as John and Nancys and maybe Amy. However we have no prove, just circumstantial. John would have been 26 in 1800 when Rolley was born. Where did you get the idea he had previous marriage and children????? We believe Nancy b. 1779 died fairly young as there is a record of a John Moon marrying a Mary Hurst in 1812 in Columbia Cty, GA.

The Nancy who married a John McNeil in 1821 we believe must have been Nancy Spivey's dtr and their children certainly appear to be family names with an amy, eliz. raleigh, Wiley and Jesse.

I have checked the marriage records of Columbia Cty, GA and find no marriage for Nancy Spivey or John Moon. Do you have any info where we might find these. Do you have any further info on Nancy and John Mc Neil.

Would be interested in where you found John info on Nancy Spivey and John Moon sometimes known as Thomas born 25, oct 1742 - died 1855 Columbia GA. What was it you found? What was the source?

I don't think John Moon was ever known as Thomas. John Moon b.1717 and Mary Farmer Moon had a son Thomas b. 1742 and died in 1808. He married Leucher. Some believe he married a second time to a Sarah Brooks but no one can prove that. John Moon Jr. was John Sr and wife Marys second son born in 1745. John Jr. married a Sarah (or Sary) Bradley. He John Sr. nor John Jr. ever left NC. Thomas b. 1742 did leave NC in about 1790 (?) and went to Columbia Cty, GA. Moses Spiveys families were in the area at the time. Some of his children married there but we could find no record of a Nancy Spivey and Moon marriage.

Thomas Moon b. 1742 and his son Thomas b. 1779 and his son John b. 1774 and a son Jesse etc. was in Columbia Cty, GA in the late 1700 early 1800's and we believe either John b. 1774 or Thomas 1779 married Nancy Spivey but we are still looking for proof.

Moses Spivey named in a doc in Edgefield Cty. SC - his grandson Rolley Moon - which means Rolley's mother had to have been a Spivey and his father a Moon.

Where did the information that "Nancy was Johns second wife and his first wife was Leucedia." According to John Moon Sr's bible records Thomas married a Leucher and John married a Sary Bradley. I think whoever this came from has the second generation (and perhaps the third generation) Moons mixed up.

I would love a copy of your Tree.
Moses Spivey b. 1756's father was Jonas Spivey. If you find the land and deed records of Rowan Cty NC you will find Jonas Spivey there. You will also find land and deed records of a Jonas, Isaac and these families in Richmond Cty, NC. From Richmond Cty we believe that our Moses was in Columbia Cty, GA. Several of Moses Spivey's children were married there. Beverly Spivey had land there. There is another Moses Spivey of Bertie Cty who was born about the same time frame as Moses of Chowan. They all came out of Nanesmond Cty, VA stemming from a George Spivey of England, CA.

I am trying to do a chron file on the Spiveys (especially our Moses) but have a few things to clerify. I am not sure when I will get it done but if you would like I will send you a copy when I get it done. Send me your email and your address and I will send it when I get it done.

Michelle Cabaniss

Moses Spivey (Spiva) of the Beverly Spivey (Moses son) of East Texas - Moses born March 16, 1756 in Chowan Cty, NC. Moses died June 2, 1829. He is not the Moses Spivey born In Bertied Cty. about the same time as our Moses Sppivey. There is a bible record of our Moses in a bible record in Edgefield Cty, SC. It is the Elbert Dorn Family bible record and it also has Tapley (Moses sons birth there 11/17/1792. Tapley married Sarah Ann Howle. I believe these records are also in the Pension Records of Moses. In Nov. 10, 1774 Moses mad. Rebercca Gladdish also came from the Rev. Was Pension records.

Moses enclisted in Rowean Cty, N. C. Amer. Revol Dist discharged in Camden Dist. S.C. Went back to Richmond Cty, NC to marry Rebecca Gladdish. There are tax records in Rowan Cty, NC with Moses father Jonas there as well as his brother Isaac, and I believe another brother Jonas. then Moses was in Richmond Cty in 1782, 1786, I am not sure this was the same Moses Spivey on the 1790 census for SC. Still trying to verify. In 1795 Moses received land in District of Beaufort, Shewsbury Cty SC. In 1803 Moses moved to Edgefield Cty, SC. Before that we think, not proven but good substantial evidence that Moses, Beverly and his other children were in Columbia Cty, GA before they went to Edgefield where Moses and Rebecca died. These families were members of the Red Hill Baptist Church. I have records from there. There are many land and deed records of Moses and family in Edgefield Cty, SC. I am working on a chron report and hope to finish it soon.

There was another Moses of Bertie Cty, NC that you many have confused with - many, others do.

My question to you is what documents do you guys have that has a Thomas as the father of Moses. George Spivey either 3 or 4 had a son Mathew with a Thomas who I believe had a son Moses. They are all related to the George Spivey of Nanesmond who was born in England but gets really confusing.

Please let me hear from you because it is a tangled mess and who knows I could be wrong. My goal is to make sure the Spiveys of my line are correct. My Grt. Grt grandfather, Rolley Moone I believe was the son of Moses Spivey's daughter Nancy Spivey. Rolley was born in Columbia Cty, GA.
we believe to a Nancy Spivey and a John or Thomas Moon. We are still trying to verify this. We believe Rolley's mother was Nancy Spivey because Moses Spivey stated in a document that his son "Rolley Moon" - which means his mother had to have been a Spivey.

I know this is 12 yrs of waiting to get in touch with you, but a question came up on our Choctaw heritage. Having no proof I could not ansewr the question.
First of all, my grandmother was Lula Mattie (Spivey) Clay, My Gr-grand was Albena Williamson Spivey, her father being John Thomas Williamson/mother was Rhoda Blakely.
My grandma always told me she was part Indian, and I was so young I thought that was gross! She thought it was Cherokee, and I never gave it another thought, until recently, my grand daughter was applying for a scholarship at DBU and that was the question that came up on the application.
So, I was in hopes for some helpful input from you and your research.
I found in my great grandmother's obituary, Frances Josephine (Spivey) Resa that she was born in Ross County, Ohio, a daughter of Henry and Cena Spivey. She was married to Rudolph Resa in 1873 in Mt. Pulaski, IL so if Henry was buried in Chillicothi, it could have been Illinois. I have found nothing to verify this. The death certificate of my great grandmother list her father as Henry being born in Ohio and her mother just as Spivey with birthplace not known by my grandmother who signed the certificate. I did see someplace that Sena's maiden name could have been Wilson, but I haven't been able to follow through with that information. Stay in touch. aalbersmary@aol.com

Hello,

My ggrandfather was Littleton Spivey Smith. Originally from Newberry, SC. His father Nathaniel Smith died soon after his was born. Littleton was born on Sept. 4, 1833. Nathaniel had a brother by the name of Spivey Smith. Littleton his twin sister Elizabeth and older brother John moved to TX with their Mother, EVe and Stepfather John Wallace. The wagon train stopped in LaFayette Co. MS where Spivey Smith stayed and raised several children. One of his children was named Littleton and a grandchild. Littleton died in Bruceville, TX (just South of Waco) in 1887.
I believe you have the wrong Moses Spivey for this line.

I am the grt grt grt granddaughter of Moses Spivey b. 1756.

The Moses Spivey (Spiva) you speak was b. 1756 in Rowan Cty, NC. His father was Jonas Spivey b. 1725 in NC, son of George Spivey IV, b. 1690, Nanesmond Cty, VA, who was the son of George Spivey III, b. 1660 Nanesmond Cty, VA. who was the son of George Spivey II, b. 1630-1660 Nanesmond Cty, VA, who was the son of George Spivey I, b. 1605-1612 of Barnesly England.

I have the census record of 1790 which shows Moses Spivey (aka Spiva) in Richmond Cty, NC. This 1790 census records also shows his father, Jonas Spiva in Richmond Cty, NC

This Moses Spivey was born in 1756 and was the father of Beverly Allen Spivey.

Moses sSpivey was a Revolutionary Solider and enrolled in Richmond Cty, NC April 1776 and served unti May 1777. Moses returned to Richmond Cty and married Rebecca Glassish and had a number of children (listed below). Land and deed records verify that Moses and Rebecca were in Richmond Cty, NC until about 1796. Then we suspect he was in Columbia Cty, GA until about 1803 as several of his children were married there. Beverly Spivey, his son had land there (documented).

Moses married Rebecca Gladdish Nov. 10, 1777 (bible record)
Children:
Nany Spivey, b. Jan 30, 1779 suspected to have married a
Moon. Suspected to have had a son named
Rolley Moon as doc. in Moses Spivey records
say he had a son Rolley Moon.
Lacincy or Leviny Spivey md. Hezekiah Lundy
Rebecca Spivey - Md. Peter Owen
Tapley B. Spivey
Beverly Spivey - md. Rebecca Perryman
Moses Spivey b. abt. 1798 - married Martha Patsy Taylor

Moses Spivey b. 1756 died June 2 or 3, 1829 in Edgefield 1829.

I have worked many years of these Spiveys. Let me know if you have any questions. They were a hugh family and all started around Nanesmond and spred out thru VA, NC, GA, and SC.

Michelle Cabaniss
(661)245-3272
I know there parents were John Hiram Spivy and Sarah. Other siblings migrated to Mountain City, TN and then to McDowell County, WV. Robert married a Mary who died in 1926 and then a Juliet Walker who died in 1948. Juliets death certificate says Robert was already deceased. How and where Robert died is a mystery. What happened to David after he is 4 is a mystery also. Any help would be appreciated. I believe the middle names for the boys were Marion and Wayne. Also if someone knows who John Hiram Spivy's Dad was that would be nice. I've tried all I know.

I am from the Moon family connected to the Spivey's. I belive my grandmother was Nancy Spivey b. 1779 in North Carolina to Moses Spivey b. 1756. I know tons about the Spivey's and their travels across VA, NC, and then to Columbia Cty, GA and on down. I know of the Spivey's in East Texas and have verified much information on Beverly Spivey & decendants.

I am trying to verify Nancy Spivey b. 1779 marrying either a John Moon or Thomas Moon in Columbia Cty Area (guess). Nancy is believed to be the mother of Raleigh Moon out of Columbia Cty, GA. Can anyone help. We have a document of Moses Spivey b. 1756 in Edgefield, SC which states his grandson is Raleigh Moon. I would be happy to swap documents (and believe me I have a book full of documents on the Spivey's) for any help you can give me. Moses Spivey Jr. was with Raleigh Moon down in Heard Cty, GA.

Thank you,

Michelle Cabaniss

PS: I also have lots of Moon relatives in Texas as we are a very large family. I believe one of them lives in Nagelos (sp).

My great grandfather was also Henry Spivey, son of Palatine Spivey. Henry was born in 1824 as you state. My grandfather, Jacob Spivey, was born in 1841 in Perquimans county, NC. Do you have any other info on Henry or his wife? There seems to be some confusion as to her name, I have seen it listed as, Sensie, Cena and even Mary but no maiden name. My dad said they were buried at Chillicothi, but not which one. I assume Chillicothi, MO.

Sorry, I have no Margaret H Spivey in my list, but that doesn't mean she's not connected. There's so many name repetitions throughout the Spivey line that I have a hard time keeping them straight. For example, I was researching Dixon (Dickson) Spivey and found out there were two, then found out that I may have the wrong father listed due to conflicting dates....If you have a Spivey line from N.C. it is most likely an extension of mine. The had HUGE families. Happy hunting.

Kathy, Thanks so much for replying to my post. This hunt has been a long and hard one. In the Yalobusha Census records (That is where I know it's the right Margaret!, for the 3 years she resided there that I can find it says: In 1870 & 1860 Census she was born in North Carolina. In 1880 Census she was born in Alabama (as were both her parents). This is the only record that says Alabama so I question it.

Also, the spellings of the Rosamond name is all over the place so it is very hard to keep this straight. I have received information from a Lloyd Campbell regarding her and found much of it to be incorrect.

Here is what I know to be correct from research in the Yalobusha, Grenada Co., MS records. Also from a book called, "Yalobusha Bound" p. 402; which is a record of the place where she and Tillman raised their family.

Margaret "H" Spivey (Why the quotes around the inital??)
B: 7 June 1828, Moore County, North Carolina
M: 22 March 1849, Yalobusha, MS (Not sure of this one?)
D: 7 December 1904, Greysport, Grenada, MS (Gravestone was visited by my in-laws years ago and recorded)

Married Tillman Rosamond (Spelled Rosemond, Rosmone, etc) I have not been able to find a marriage record on them. Can not find where they married. Tillman's father was a preacher but I can't see where he married them. However he did marry many of his other 10 children. Tillman was the oldest in the family and it appears he left home at an early age. (Where did he find Margaret?)

Their children are:
Sabrine F. 1851 (died as a child); Rosanna or Roseona Octavia 1853 (Rosamond, our line); Alice 1855 (Critz); & Rebecca S. 1860 (Bowen). Although I too have found a Bascom in some places, I can not find any record of him in official records.

That is my work during the past 5-7 years, so any help you can give would be appreciated. There are many pieces of this puzzle missing with regard to Margaret's Parent's family.

Thanks again for helping.

I didn't find her in the Spivey Family Book. I did see her under the Root Web but they have her born in 1826. She had three kids Roseanna,Rosalie, and Bascomb. She died in 1904. That was under the Rosemond family reseach. I'll try and find more out. They had her birth as being born in S.C. Kathy

Kathy, you seem to have a lot of info on the Spivey's. I've been looking for a gg grandmother for 5 years now. Her name is Margaret "H" Spivey, born @ 1825, supposedly in Moore County, NC. She married Tillman Rosamond in 1846 and moved to Mississippi. I have lots of information about her as a married woman, but can not find her parents. Does her name sound at all familiar to you?
