Hello -

I am particularly interested in finding out more about Elizabeth Spragon (Spraggon) born abt. 1632 most likely Northumberland and married 27 May 1655 to George Storey in Rothbury, Northumberland. She was the daughter of William Spragon (from marriage register) and I believe William died 1657 in Rothbury.

Thank you. STEVE

Is seven years too late to contact you? I am indirectly related to Essie Spraggon, of Swansea, who married Deryck Austin Bailey in 1941. For some reason she was known as "Bobbie". Deryck and "Bobbie" had no children.
I would be interested in knowing more about her - if she was related to David Spraggon, for instance. I think she had a sister known as "Meg" (Margaret ?).
I can be reached direct at: janjones@mts.net
I live in Canada but was botn in Wales.
Regards, Janice

hi, your message is a good few years old, but I thought I would post this in case it helps anyone! My paternal grandmother's mother's side of the family came from Middleton in Teesdale - they were Spraggons and the son Ben ran the fish and chip shop in the main street. (My grandmother was born 1901 and Ben was her uncle, so maybe born 1875 ish?) I am still finding out about them.
hallo, I am tracing the spraggons families (family) - suffolk/colchester on behalf of my neighbour. He is descended from a maude spraggons from colchester. I have found about four families of that area, who are clearly related to each other. I am interested in any family tree details or names that would fit into my spraggons tree. I have all the names and dates at hand, which may well be useful to any other spraggons researcher.

I am looking for the descendants of ellen maud (maud ellen?) spraggons who married a richard william quinn in 1914 and had at least three children named henrietta, richard william and margaret ellen. Most of the spraggons were agricultural workers or famers or had farming related trades such as cattle dealers or butchers, etc.

I'll be interested in anyone who may provide me with further information or who is a possible l;iving link to that family.

Re: Spraggon Connection

Hi,
I am researching my DEES ancestry. In the 1871 Census a cousin of my great great grandmother was listed while visiting Wallsend Hall, The Green, Wallsend, Northumberland. She is listed as Mary SPRAGGON, Cousin, unmarried aged 80....which means she was born in about 1791...I am as interested in these cousins as I am in my actual ancestors....they fill in the whole family picture so much better.
I very recently received the following information from another family researcher, the husband of a 5th cousin!
"Mary SPRAGGON links in through the CROSSE connection. Robert Richardson DEES father, Robert DEES married Martha RICHARDSON. Martha's parents were Robert RICHARDSON and Mary CROSSE (1786 in Newcastle).
Mary's parents were John CROSSE and Catherine Ann NORMAN (m 1753 in Blythe in Nottinghamshire) (I wondered if that was Blythe, Northumberland as people didn't tend to travel as widely as today)
Another of their children was Ann CROSSE wo married Edward SPRAGGON in Newcastle in 1785. Mary was one of the three SPRAGGON children that I know about:
Henry SPRAGGON born 1786 Newcastle upon Tyne
Ann SPRAGGON born 1788 Newcastle upon Tyne and
Mary SPRAGGON bon 1790 in Newcastle upon Tyne.
If any of these names fit in with your information I would be very interested in hearing from you.
Best wishes
Tombi Peck

Spraggon's

Dear Andrew,

While researching one of branches of my family tree I have come across the name Spraggon.

My great great grandmother Mary Ann Reed had a sister, Jane Reed. The family moved from Sunderland (12 miles south of Newcastle) to Poplar, London around 1872 where my great great grandmother was born. However the family moved back to the north east a few years later.

Jane Reed was born in Sunderland around 1857 and she married a man called Spraggon around 1878. He was an engineer. On the 1881 census for Poplar, Jane had two children: Lucinda Spraggon and John Carter Reed Spraggon. (Both named after Janes mother and father).

If this is of any help to you let me know as I hope to research this line further in the future.

Best Wishes,
Anthony Laing.
