Your other posting identifies that it was Mary Lue Spruce, Daughter of Spencer Spruce that was born in 1843...not her father:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.spruce/47.1.1.1/mb.ashx

The 1910 Census for Brewster County, TX, shows Homer V Spruce, age 51, born in Mississippi to father born in North Carolina, mother in MS. He would have been born in 1858/1859.

The 1860 Census for Desota Co, MS
Simpson Spruce, 65(1794/1795), born in South Carolina, farmer
Mary C Spruce, 17(1842/1843), MS
S.F. Spruce 14(1845/1846), MS
-above them, J.A. Spruce, 23(1837/1838), farmer, Tennessee

A "marycrenshaw160" and 13 others have family tree's that include this family:
Mary Lou Spruce, born about 1845 in DeSoto County, MS, died 8 July 1925 in Weed, Otero Co, NM. The Source data is the 1870, 1880 and 1910 Census. The 1910 Census finds "Mary Lu" and William H. Donaghe in Lower Penasco, Chaves Co, NM. She was 64(1865/1866), born in Georgia to father born in South Carolina, mother in Georgia. William born in Texas, second marriage for both. Another Donaghe, probably the son of William, age 26, and family follow on the census page.

Mary married Robert George English, 1864 (No Source record). She married William Harrison "Lit" Donaghe in 1874, no Source record. The tree identifies father, Simpson Spruce, born about 1795 in South Carolina, No Further Information. No siblings identified.

Some trees identify Mary Lue Spruce born October 18, 1846, source records 1880 and 1910 Census (but neither provide that exact of a birth date).

There are two trees that show a Homer Virgil Spruce, born 22 Mar 1853, died 30 May 1853, father was Homer Virgil Spencer and Martha Rousseau. Not the correct one. One tree on the "OneWorldTree" identified Homer V. and Rebecca Connor, no source data, no further information. OWT is known to have in correct information.

For research, start with Robert(s), then Mary, documenting all the "Facts" you locate. You posted this in the California Unknown message board. To find these people, you will have to post in New Mexico, then back to Desota County, Texas. Local's in those area have access to more local records, especially the further back you go in time.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

I am not familiar with the geography of Georgia. So I cant be certain we are tracing same family. My great grandfather was Thomas H. Spruce b. 1820 and married Luvicey Shupthrine 1841 in Georgia. Could this be the family you are researching?
Betty Joe Spruce-Worley

The James Spruce I am researching was married to a Mary Dyke who died. And James was left with Ann Spruce B1852, my great grandmother to bring up. This is, as far as I know.
There are four Spruces'
James b1829 to William and Margaret.
James b1826 to Ralph and Nancy.
James b1828 Thomas and Betty.
James Spruce b1827 to Richard Mary.
I have seen the census but I can't work out the James with the daughter Ann b1852 which family he came from ,to me it looks more like Ralph and Nancy are his parents.
I have noticed several trees on ancestry connected to the spruces. I just wonder if any one knew categorically that James Spruce father of Ann Spruce b1852, parents are Richard and Mary. I think I shall have to request Ann Spruces birth certificate.
Any more help gratefully received, other wise shall let you know the out come soon.
Suzanne

While researching my Spruce ancestors, I found a building in Marathon, TX with Spruce Drug Store. This store was the first drug store witha fountain in Marathon and Homer Virgil Spruce and his wife owned it. Rebecca was called "Aunt Becky" and her drinks had a "kick" to them. Homer was a rancher. Homer also made boots. They were fine unless they got wet. If they were walked in when they were wet, however, the peg holes would stretch and the pegs would drop out. If the boots dried too fast, they wold draw up.The boots were shaped so they could be worn on either foot. I met a woman in the library whose parents bought his
ranch and she was born there. Their headstones read Homer V.Spruce 10-29-1852--4-12-1948 and Rebecca Spruce 4-25-1856--3-15-1944. They had a nephew by the name of Harold living with them.

Hi--I think we are half-2nd cousins. I'm not too sure.
Thomas H. Spruce, my g.grandfather was born in So Carolina abt 1821. He married Luvicey Shuptrine in 1841 in Cobb Co. Georgia. I forgot they had a daughter Mary born abt 1846. They had Sarah, Jane & Lucy also. Something happened and Sarah and Jane died in a fire. Luvicey died 1864 abt 39 years old. Thomas moved to Texas and remarried an Annie Story (my g.grandmother) They produced 2 sons George Henry and Emmett. George is my grandfather.
He married Laura Delson May and produced my father Joe Henry born 1907 and a bunch of sisters.
I have not been able to verify Thomas H. Spruce's father. I have identified 3 brothers, William (the oldest) Charles and George McCoy. I have not verified his death or the death of the children or Luvicey.
If you have any of this info please pass it on. I will give you all the info I have.
Thanks for finding me.
Betty Joe Spruce-Worley
1117 S.W. 133rd Place
OKC, OK 73170
405/691-9161
bettyworley@cox.net

Thank you Betty, for replying. This is definately the Spruce family that I am researching! On the 1860 census the writing is poor but I suspected the wife's name was Luvicy. They only list their first child as Mary but in later records she is listed as Mary Adeline. Mary married Elijah Hearn in 1870, Autauga, AL. They had one child then moved to Texas where their other three were born. My Dad was named for Elijah Hearn's Dad, Horace Hearn.
Email me direct if you have questions: we71357@bellsouth.net

Dear Hearn family member
I wish I could tell you FOR CERTAIN I know this person. It has to be a relative of my Spruce family. All my Spruce brothers married late 1830s to late 1840s in Georgia and my g.grandfather lived in Autauga. I don't recognize the name Mary Adeline--but my g. grandfather was Thomas Spruce born abt 1821 and married a Shuptrine girl in 1841 in Cobb County Georgia. If your Mary was born in 1845 this could be her Father or her uncle Charles Spruce, or William Spruce or George Spruce.
Thomas H. Spruce married Luvicey Shuptrine, 1841; William Spruce married Elizabeth Shuptrine, 1836.
I know Thomas and Luvicey did not have a child Mary Adeline. Try William as George M. did not marry until abt 1846. I have not researched William and Elizabeth.
Good luck--I hope I have given you a lead.
Hello Spruce Family. I am Betty Joe Spruce-Worley. My father was Joe H. Spruce, bn 1907 to Laura May and George H. Spruce (bn 1867). His father was Thomas H. Spruce bn abt 1822. He had 3 brothers that I know of William, George M. and Charles T. I believe they were all born in S. Carolina.
Thomas, William and George married Shuptrine sisters in Georgia. Thomas married Luvicey Shuptrine in 1841. I cannot find any reference as to who the father of these men were. Are we of the same Spruce line?

Married 1841 in Cobb County, Georgia to Luvicey Shuptrine and later to Annie M. Storey (died 29 Jan 1920) in Oklahoma. I believe Thomas died somewhere between 1881-1885 as Annie remarried in 1885 in Texas. Thomas is father of George Henry and Emmet Spruce of Texas. Am I related to anyone out there?

Mary Lue Spruce

Mary Lue Spruce was born in Mississippi in 1843. She was the daughter of Simpson and ____Spruce. The only notice of a Spruce family is in the 1860 DeSoto Country census. "J.A. Spruce 23M, Simpson Spruce 65M, Mary Spruce 17F and S.F. Spruce 14F" There are no other Spruces in Mississippi or Louisiana in 1860.

Records show that they moved from Alabama to Mississippi and then to Tennessee. They later headed to Jonesboro, Ark before moving south to Lake Ouachita in north Louisiana.

Records I have show Virgil "Virgie as he was called" being born near the town of Homer in 1854. He would later marry Rebecca Conner. He was a successful sheep farmer but they had no children that I can find.

Stories I've heard say the Spruce's owned a small farm with a few slaves which they freed around 1863. Mary would later marry Robert English in the 1860s. They had a girl (named Gertrude) about 1864 that died shortly after birth. They then had a son named Robert E. English in 1865.

I've been to Homer, LA and there are lots of black English families there. I talked to one older black lady who told me her family had once been owned by some English's "round these parts".

Robert (Sr) would die in 1878 and Mary would later marry William "Lit" Donaghe.

Any additional information would be great appreciated.

Greg English, Great-Great Grandson of Robert
latraveler@bellsouth.net
Hi, I met some vacationers from Shropshire and they told me there was a Redlake Church. Robert Spruce's funeral card also said he was "from the Rock" . I've located the area outside of Wellington that is called The Rock. Is it possible you could find Robert Spruce's tombstone at RedLake Church? Would appreciate your help greatly.

I show Samuel married to Emma Walton, Mar 1855 in Shropshire Eng. Came to USA in 1870, settled in Lex, MO.
June 1900 Census shows Samuel widowed and living with son Charles. Samuel died in 1907. Don't have anything on a remarriage. Seth Spruce, (don't show any direct relation to Samuel but thinks they're brothers) married Sarah Wilkinson in Eng 1863. Poss. came to USA in 1870 and to Lex, Mo.
Unk when Seth died, but Sarah ended up living with their son Matthew or Matt, and she was still alive in 1918. Would love if you could share any other info.
