Well, after some contact with a few people and trying to figure out all of the various Stabler groups I am thinking that the Musberg Stabler (Stebler) family settled in the PA area but so did a Stabler family from Switzerland. No connection that I know about. I've also not been able to tie those from England who settled in Indiana and some moved west including Minnesota I believe. I don't know how those from South Carolina or Alabama might be connected. Any help from anyone on this?

Could it be that the Swiss Stablers moved to Germany around the 30 years war period? Perhaps they also went to England or am I completely wrong???

Your posting in 2001 indicates that you traced Stablers back to Switzerland. My Stablers were in Musberg, Stutgart area in the 1500-1600s. Does your material connect to this area of Germany>?

Carmen, thanks for the posting; however, my George Lewis Stabler and his presumed father John George Stabler was born, lived, and died in the Sandy Run community of Orangeburg district (a part that is now Lexington or Calhoun County), South Carolina. The George Stabler you reference is a different person. I am still looking for more information to prove George Lewis Stabler's father.

Francis Stabler

I cannot help with the Mast connection, but because your grandfather's name is similar to my ancestors, I would like to ask you a question. Are you linked to Christian Stabler (b abt 1693, d abt 1732)in Freudenstein, Wurtemburg, Germany? My Stabler ancester was his son Gottlieb Stabler (b 1732, d aft 1790) who came to South Carolina in 1752. When John Jacob died in 1844, his estate was to be divided between his children: Samuel, James, Malachi, Catherine, Whissenhunt, Harriet Cobb, Caroline Stacie, and James Bryant (daughter Elizabeth had already died). Agnes and Frederick had 12 children, the youngests name was Edward born in 1875.
I am trying to update our records and would like to find a Mast connection.
The name Stabler sometimes was spelled with an ae in America.

My great, great grandmother was Emma Stabler. She was born July 4, 1877 in Basel, Switzerland and came to the U.S. with her father as her mother had died. I have been told that her father's name was Saffran (sp?) and her mother's name was Ann. She married Joseph Yost and lived in the Sheraden area of Pittsburgh. They had 11 children. Supposedly they had relatives in Ford City, PA who owned a farm. Looking for anyone who might be able to provide more info. Thanks!

I found a marriage of Frank Stabler and Rena Everitt on 1-15-1891 Monroe Co., AL. There is a Frank Stabler on the 1880 Census, son of Samuel J. (I think James) and Isabella-siblings are Sallie E., William, Elizabeth, Rosa, Mallie and Lilla Bella. I believe Samuel J. is the son of Samuel b. 1803 SC and Ellen Unk. I cannot find a Frank on the 1900 census, but Arrena is listed. This is all speculation, from the above information.

I did find Irena Everett b. abt. 1886, the daughter of John Everett b. abt. 1820 and Nancy (the other reply said Henderson). Siblings were listed as Robert Wesley Everett b. 1847 Julia A. Everett , Nancy J. Everett, Daniel Webster Everett, Catherine Everett, Lillie O Everett, Shelly Everett, and James M. Everett. Thinking this could possibly be Arena. Unfortunately for me, this Stabler would not be my line. Hope it will help someone else.

Hi! Unfortunately, we are probably not related. I researched this family on behalf of a friend. However, you may be related to my friend. Stabler Woodall was born in Nafferton, East Yorkshire, in 1821. He is my friend's great-great-grandfather. Stabler's parents were Samuel Woodall, born circa 1790 and Mary Stabler, b.c.1781. Mary's age is difficult to determine because she does not appear on the Census after 1840. In that Census year, as you probably know, the age of an adult was 'rounded' to the nearest 5. Apparently, my friend's g.g.grandfather was given his mother's surname as a 'Christian' name. There seemed to be a large population of Stablers in Nafferton when Samuel married Mary. It is likely that they were an indigenous family because Nafferton was, and still is, a very small community. Samuel Woodall was not a local. He originated from further north. It is a long time since I have been engrossed in these notes so I cannot remember many details. However, I do have the information stored electronically. If you would like to contact me directly, I am very happy to share any information that you would like. It's possible that your John Stabler was related to the Woodall's by marriage. I look forward to hearing from you. wendyperimovic@tiscali.co.uk
I have one more thing to add to your Stabler history. I believe I found a Civil War reference to your George Stabler (b 1839). Note his age upon enlistment matches up with what your George would have been. If he was disabled in the war, he may have gotten a pension. That shoud be checked as well. The pension files usually name a lot of relatives and dates...and relationships. Best of luck, Julie

Enlisted as a private on July 16, 1861 at age 22. Enlisted in Company D, 47th infantry regiment Ohio on August 7, 1861. Mustered out company D 47th infantry regiment Ohio on August 20, 1864 in Atlantia, GA
That is interesting. Cook is a family name that keeps popping up as friends of my MODE family relatives. I don't think we are related to the STAEBLER/STABLER family either. We just inherited their family bible and some glasses that were old even back in 1895. The family bible had a brief genealogy inside. I will post what was written in the front cover so perhaps this will shed light on any possible connections.

(I am trying to figure out the rough handwriting, possible some spelling errors)

Rossmoyne July 6, 1895

I wish that this book to be given to Peter Moode and his wife and likewise a pair of silver spectacles more than two hundred years old.

Wm (Looks like a backward F for middle inital) Johnson
(small notation that I cannot read) J.L. Cook

I think Cook was the witness.

Hope this helps.
Karen

I now have the infor for your family back to the point where they came into the country. I'll start there and work my way forward to the 1880 census for George and Elizabeth. I previously posted the information from the 1900 and 1910 census on George and Liz.

Dec 24, 1846 from LeHavre France to New Orleans , LA, place of intended settlement, Missouri. Ship: Tallahasse
Frederic Staebler 39
Marie 42
Frederic 16
George 7
Charlotte 5
Catherine 2
All above born in Germany per the ship's manifest

1850 Hamilton Co Cin 11th ward
Fred Stabler 47
Maria 46
Frederick 20
George 12
Charlotte 10
Maria 8
All above born in Germany

1860 Hamilton Co, Cin 12th Ward
Frederick Stabler 53 France
Margareth 56 France
Frederick 30 France

1860 Hamilton Co, Cin 12th Ward
George Stabler 21 France occupation Painter
Elizabeth Ohio
both were in the household of Samuel Crowfoster? 32 Ohio and wife Prudence 25 Ohio (Sam was an attorney)

1870 Hamilton Co, Cin Ward 18
George Stapler 31 Hungary Painter
(Note: birthplace in index given as Magyarorszag...??...I have no idea WHERE they got that...it was clearly given as Hungary on the census)
Elizabeth 28 Bavaria
Mary 3 Ohio
Clements (??very hard to read..unsure of name) 3/12months male born Feb

1880 Hamilton Co, Cin
George Steubler 40 Fr FR FR painter
Elizabeth 38 Bav Bav Bav
Margaret 8 Ohio FR Bav
William 6 ditto
Emelia 3 ditto
Charles 8/12 ditto

So, looking ahead to the previous info I sent, which had a married lady, Maggie, living next door to George and Liz in 1900 Cincinnati, we can see that she was indeed their daughter..and next door to Maggie, was the married Amalia Cook who was undoubtedly the Emelia we see in 1880. Her year of birth was obviously off, but not surprisingly, because it was probably given by her husband.

Known children now for George and Elizabeth are as follows:
Mary b about 1867
Clements b about 1870 Feb
Margaret b about 1872
William b about 1874
Emelia b about 1877
Charles b about 1879
That leaves three yet unknown kids. Most likely, they were born between 1860 and 70 because it would have been unlikely that they would have gone 7 years before having a child, though George may have served in the Civil War which would have limited the number of children during that time. Since Elizabeth was only 38 in 1880, there well could have been three kids after that time as well.

I'll check some records again and see if I can find these two girls..Maggie and Amalia/Emelia in 1910 or 20. I'll also give a check to what I can for Civil War service records for Charles...and possibly his older brother, Frederick.

This was fun to do and I hope you enjoy seeing the info. I am in no way related to this group of Stablers.

Our Stabler was Joseph Stabler from England who married Sarah Scott in Meigs Co, Ohio in about 1838 and moved from there to St. Louis, Missouri by 1840. Joseph Stabler died on the way to the CA gold fields about 1850-52. His wife, Sarah Scott came into the country with her father, John and a couple sisters, Tamar and Mary....at least we think Tamar was a girl.

Julie Bissell Tupker

I did some census looking for your family, and in a short time found them in 1910 and 1900 Cincinnati.

In 1910 there were in Ward 21...

George age 70 born Germany married once 50 years
Elizabeth age 68 married once 50 years, mother of 9 children with 3 living
George was shown to come into the country in 1846 and Elizabeth in 1845. George was naturalized.

In 1900, they were also in Cincinati
George 61 b May 1839 France France France (but note that his
birthplace was first written Germany and then crossed out and rewritten as Franch He was naturalized and said he'd been in the country 53 years (coming in 1847
Elizabeth 58 b April 1842 Germany Germany Germany She said she had been in the country 57 years (coming 1843)
Charles b Oct 1871 20 Oh Germany Germany
and..next door
George Fa??ter b May 1871 29 OH Ger Ger
Maggie F b Oct 1873 married 8 years mother of 2/2 Oh FR GER

The birthplaces of Maggie's parents peg her to be a daughter

AND....next door to Maggie

George Cook 27 Oh
Amalia 21 b May 1879 Oh FR GER
children Louis 4 Oh
Elmer 2 Oh
So, it appears that Amalia may be another one of George and Elizabeth's kids when we see her parents' birthplaces.

This family should be in the 1870 and 1880 census somewhere in Ohio and possibly in the 1860 census since they were married 50 years in 1910.

Since the 1910 census said that Elizabeth had three living children, we can surmise that two were Maggie and Amalia if they were still alive and if Charles was still alive, he was the third kid, but there could have been others still alive in 1900.

There is some reason to possibly question whether Amalia is a daughter...because in 1900, she was born in May of 1879 while Charles was born in Oct of 1879. I suspect that if we can find Amalia in another census, she will show to be born in perhaps 1880, not 1879.

I'll do a little more work on this later if I can....we're to have a blizzard today preceded by freezing rain and wind...and could lose power.

Hope this helps you in some way.

Julie

The earliest person I know is George and Elizabeth Staebler im not sure when they were born but george died in 1915 and elizabeth in 1917. I know of one child between them named Charles Louis Staebler. All three buried in a cemetery in cincinnati. I believe George came from France. Any info would help
Thanks
Stabler or Staebler in OH and MO?

I was going through my family papers when I came across some information regarding this family. The earliest dates include Daniel Staebler born Sep. 27, 1810 and an Ann Eliza. Staebler died May 15, 1846. Also includes the family names of TERRY, SHEPHERD and JOHNSON. The name changes from STAEBLER TO STABLER in just a few entries.
I also found a red ribbon that said" Seventieth, I.O.O.F. Kansas City, MO, April 26, 1889."
My family has been in Kansas (the state) and Cincinnati, OH as well as some areas in Indiana.
I'd be happy to share more information if this seems to be of any interest.
Robert F. Stabler of PA.

Robert F. Stabler

Robert F. Stabler, son of Jared and Margaret J. (Koller) Stabler, of Shrewsbury Township. Was born in Shrewsbury Township, York Co., Penn., September 26, 1851. His father was born in 1620, and carried on the lime business in York County for a number of years, subsequently removing to Railroad Borough, where he engaged in milling and dealing in grain; which occupation he still follows. Robert F. received his education at the public schools of the township and at the academy of Shrewsbury and New Freedom. In 1869 he began learning the milling trade in his father’s mill at Railroad Borough, where he remained until 1872, when he engaged in railroading and farming for three years. In 1875 he came to Hopewell Township, and engaged in milling. He remained there five years, after which he went to Stewartstown, and kept a feed store for three years, and then went back to Ebaugh’s Mills, where he has since resided, having charge of a grist and saw mill. He was married, in 1871, to Artilda Kunkel, daughter of A. W. Kunkel, of Shrewsbury Township. They have six children: Charles W., Clara L., Addie E., Minnie S., Daniel A. and Mary Ann. Mr. Stabler is a member of the Brotherhood of Stewartstown, and his wife is a member of the Lutheran Church.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

Jacob Stabler died as an infant. (b. July 23, 1767, d. July 31, 1767) ; therefore, if James Guthrall was son of either of the Stablers you listed, then he was the son of John Jacob Stabler
I replied recently with the wrong username. I know that James Guthrall was the brother of Malachi L. That is how I connected him to be the son of John Jacob. The sibling history was given to me by my grandmother and my grandfather's sister, Gladys Stabler.
