Re: Stacks of Listowel, Kerry

Hello,
My husband descends from Richard Stack, son of Richard Stack and Margaret McCarthy. Richard's son Daniel Joseph Stack, was born in Ireland in 1884-1886. I could not find his baptismal record on the Irish Genealogy Church record site and I see you do not have him listed as a child of Richard and Margaret, so let me explain how I determined he descends from Richard and Margaret.
On Daniel's WW II draft registration, he lists Timothy Driscoll who lives at 1503 Fulton Street as the person who will always know how to reach him. I had no idea who Timothy
Driscoll was until another researcher contacted me recently and informed me that he was the husband of Daniel's sister, Nora Stack.
The researcher also informed me that Daniel had another brother and sister, Patrick and Mary who also immigrated to the US. The father listed on the immigration records for Nora, Patrick and Mary was Richard Stack form Newtownsandes.
Originally, I had the wrong immigration record for my Daniel, so I looked again and found the correct one. In 1909, Daniel immigrated to the US. His father was Richard Stack from Newtownsandes. He was going to live with Pat Buckley, a cousin who lived at 881 10th Ave, NY, NY. His cousin Maggie Stack, father Patrick Stack, fron Gortdromasillahy, was traveling with Daniel to go see her sister Lissie, at 325 Lexington Ave, Brooklyn. There was a Michael McElligot, listed just below these two who was also from Newtownsandes, and he was going to visit his aunt/cousin Mrs. James O'connor who lived at 384 Lexington Ave.
One year later, Mary Stack, with father Richard from Newtownsandes, goes to America to live with her brother Daniel who resides at 694 Gates Ave, Brooklyn. On the 1910 census, Daniel is living in the home of Anna Feeley at 694 Gates Ave.
In 1912, Patrick Stack comes to visit his brother Dan Stack who resides at 384 Lexington Ave, Brooklyn. This is the same address that the Michael McElligot who traveled with Daniel in 1909 was going to.

Daniel married Anna T. Ahern, dau of John Ahern and Julia Halpin from Listowel. They had three daughters, Margaret, Anna and Rosemary. They lived in Brooklyn, NY. Their daughter, Margaret married Ernest Kirkwood Gingrich, my husband's grandfather.
I'm pretty sure we have a connection and would love to hear from you. I have traced a bit of the Stacks, McCarthys and Mulvihills and am willing to share anything I have found.
Good luck in your research.
Lisa

Sorry I gave wrong information before - not sure what I was thinking of. The Irish church records (baptism, marriages and some very patchy burial data) are available online and a lot of Cork and Kerry records are on there (not all of the records for other counties have been digitised yet). The earliest records are from late 1600s but mostly 1800s and 1900s. Search the church record for free here

http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/

Also just to say there is a facebook group for those interested in Stack history / genealogy

http://www.facebook.com/groups/stackfamily1/

We have about 90 members from around the world, some quite hard to find documents and a lot of fascinating discussions. All welcome to join.

I'm researching the Stack branch of my family.

I have got as far as Richard and Margaret Stack (and their children - of whom Michael is my ancestor), living in Ahalahana, Newtownsandes (Moyvane) in the 1901 Census and Gortdromosillahy, Newtownsandes (Moyvane) in the 1911 Census.

Margaret's maiden name was McArthy - her father Daniel McArthy was living with them in both Census', and we believe he was from either Aughrim or Glannalappa, Leitrim - though I can find no reference to this name in either area in the census'.

I'd greatly appreciate any information anyone can offer me regarding either Stacks further back in the line, McArthys beyond Daniel, or any descendants of Richard and Michael's other children.

Many thanks.

My g-g-grandfather Patrick came to US about 1851? settled on Grand Island, near Buffalo. His last place of residence in Ireland was BellHarbour, Co. Clair, on estate of Robert Bindon Scott. Estate was auctioned off 1855 and Patrick was listed as a tenent there. Possibly your Stack came to Buffalo because of contact with Patrick?

thanks, i think it is a different clan as i am sure my greatgrand father came directly to Pittsburgh. it is so fustrating with the first names being repeated over and over. at first i thought out ancestors didn't use their imagination when naming their children but then i came across a protecol that they followed...who gets named after who. if i get past this one generation, i'm stuck on, and come up with an edmond i will notify you...thanks again.

I have Stacks attached to my Costello and Flavin line of Ohio. Many Stack's lived and are buried in the Delaware (city) part of Ohio. Have you checked there? Buried in St. Mary's cemetery. Also where in Ireland did your Stack's originate? Most of the before mentioned Stack's originated in the North Kerry area (Listowel, Ballybunion, Ballylongford)

Looking for more information on a Stack line. My great great grandmother was Catherine Stack, born August 27, 1878, in Ohio, and died February 16th, 1964, in Indianapolis, IN. Her father was named Thomas Stack, born 1851 in Ireland, married Mary Mahoney, of Ireland. I dont have any more information on him. I hear there was a clan of seven brothers that moved into the Ohio area around the 1850's, but I've not found Thomas as one of the names mentioned. Looking for any information possible, would love to be able to trace this ancient lineage! :)

Does the ledger list the relationships? My great-great grandfather's sisters were named Charlotte (born 1850) and Amanda/Mandy (born 1848). He had a possible aunt named Sarah (unknown birth). Are you sure the name was Nead? GG-grandfather was Seaborn or Sebe and his name was often spelled wrong or transcribed wrong. He also had brothers named Reece and Samuel. The father's name was Albert (1818-1864) and mother's name Rebecca McManus.

Hi - marriage records are not online as far as I know - not sure where you would go for those but no doubt in church records somewhere. The 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses are online and free to search if that helps. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Birth certificates can also be obtained online from Irish govt site (don't have link to hand) but it's not searchable - so you need to have an approx date of birth and a lot of the info like parents names etc already.
