Dear Andrea,
I have made an entry on Audrey's thread and think there is some hope we may be related. Pearl and Mervyn and even Doreen incase "Dorrie" was nicknamed for her may have associations.
My Grandfather Alfred must have been born around 1880 but he lived and married in the Central Qld district. I know he had a brother and a spinster sister Lillian who died in Brisbane circa 1980 outliving Alfred.
I'll check Audrey's website as there have been no entries in the past few years on that thread. You are the only contributor that rings any bells with me.
My entry was the last posted on Audrey's 'Seeking ANYONE called Staines!!!" Karen Anne (nee) Staines

Audrey,
There is no known Staines family association with Molong to my knowledge but I was born Karen Anne Staines, in Brisbane, Queensland, daughter of Raymond Vivian, son of Alfred who fathered seven children of whom I am aware, the first five with Margaret who became chronically ill but remained institutionalised, dying in Brisbane aged around 92 in the late 1990s. There were two sons born in the Mt Morgan District of Qld with a woman known as Dorrie. That may not be her legal name. I have found Mervyn Staines died in 11 July 2002 aged 68 in Mt Morgan. My father, Raymond Vivian 1931-1995 was Alf and Margaret's youngest. Alf was a dairyfarmer who worked on the Qld Rail in Dawson River District to subsidise income off the land. He had a brother who resided in Rockhampton District whose fortunes changed dramaticlly with the ponies by family legend but while he was very well off at sometime I do not know if he married or had children or moved away. In his seventh or eighth decade Alfred married Marge with whom there was no issue. I believe it was an official marriage. There may be a marriage certificate for them in Brisbane in late 1960 or early 1961. Alfred died in the late 1960s in Brisbane. Alfred had a spinster sister Lillian who lived in Brisbane until her death after 1979. I believe Alf was not free to officiate a marriage with Dorrie who had older children from a previous relationships and two sons with Alf who took his name. I think Mervyn may have been the youngest and he had a son David whom I met when he was about 10 in the late 60s. David may still be alive. I have more Staines information decendent from Alf but his history is not known to me. The men are less interested in family records it seems. My father only found out his official birthday when he wanted to be married 11 February 1956.
There are definitely rural blood lines in this family - pastoral, not of the seminary. Alfred's daughters married Qld Rural men and moved to Innisfail and Cairns. Barrie Wakefield is Joan Staines's son and I believe he farms in Outback Central Qld. I looked Molong up on the map and it's not too unlike Mt Morgan centred type country where this mob were in the 1930s to 1950s with Mervyn at least residing there till his death aged 68 in 2002. I would be interested to know if there is any connection back from Alfred known. Maybe I am distantly related to your husband. I have a couple of relatives I may enquire further from if you wish. KT
I'm descended from Joseph Staines and Sarah Player through their son Joseph who married Ann Edwards. Their daughter Sarah Ann married David Saggers, of Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, England, and Sarah Ann and David were my great grandparents. Both emigrated to Canada in 1907 and died here in Vancouver, BC. (All their children also came here.)

Hi I'm researching my great grandfather - William STAINES b. 1861 London. In the 1891 census he is living with my great grandmother in Bethnal Green with her 3 children to her husband and the first of the 3 children she had to William Staines. He was an unemployed carman. They lived together until around 1897 and I am trying to find out any information about him and his family background. The 1891 census, however, has him listed under the WRONG SURNAME!

I would be grateful if anybody connected to him would contact me with a view to swapping famhist information.

regards

She married Robert John Staines in 1846 and shortly after moved to Victoria, British Columbia. Mr Staines died in 1854 and his widow moved back to England. This is where my information ceases. I would love to know if Emma remarried or when she died. Can anyone help me out?
