I'm looking for a Dorothy Standridge (or Stanridge) who was from North Carolina, born around 1919-1923. She had a son with a man she met in Maryland/DC area while he was on military leave, sometime during WWII. The man's children would like to meet their half-brother.

I regret that I do not have Frank Eli Standridge pictures to send you.
I am just writing to say that when I put a pic or info on Ancestry anyone is welcome to it without notification to me. I have down loaded other peoples pic and unless I had a comment or question for them I do not contact them. I figure it subtracts from my limited time for research.
Dora Lue
Frank Eli Standridge's other family

Hello,

I've just begun researching the lineage of my g-g-grandfather, Frank Eli Standridge. I descend from his oldest child, Mary Francis Standridge (1861-1941), whose mother was Harriett Walker. She told a descendant that her father abandoned the family when she was an early teenager. The family lore was that he started a new family in Texas; he appears to be the father of Dudley Frank and Lillie Standridge.

I am writing for two reasons: To offer pictures of Mary Francis Standridge and her husband, John Riley Shed (I have not uploaded a family tree to ancestry), and to ask if anyone has a photo of Frank Eli Standridge. I recently read on a message board about problems viewing other people's photos, and a few people griped about website visitors who downloaded photos without even saying hello to the person who provided them. It never occurred to me that someone posting a photo publicly would be offended by that practice, of which I am guilty.

Because I have not uploaded a family tree, I thought I would offer photos in this format. You may message me through ancestry if you would like to receive photos or have a photo of Frank Eli Standridge to offer. Thanks!

Thanks for contacting the Standridge National Historical Society. I looked in the book James Standridge Revolutionarty War Soldier and His Descendents by Frances Jones. The only reference to a Ozias Standridge is on page 33. This Ozias was born in Va about 1916 and in 1920 was living in Polk County, TN. he was the son of John Robert Standridge. Hope this helps.
Russell P. Baker
gobgob3@mindspring.com

I believe Shirley has passed away as she made contact with my mother many years ago trying to locate Ozias because she had a terminal illness. Any of you Standridges related to me? Ozias was born in Oklahoma.

Yes, I heard from my father, Ralph T. Standridge (1907-2002) that there was Indian blood he had from his Standridge ancestors.

I have no proof, so why don't we tell one another if we find this.

However, my study so far of my Standridge ancestry shows a family that was in NC, SC, then Georgia, then Polk and Montgomery, Arkansas, and in Arkansas they were probably members of the dominant church there the "Primitive Baptist Church", very conservative, and they have marriages for each of my ancestors back to 1670. A very conservative and marrying bunch!

Right now I am putting together proof that I descended from James Standridge, a Revolutionary War soldier, so I can join our local DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). They have very stiff standards, so I am having to get "hard evidence" for each generation...

Maybe you would like to work with me and perhaps join yourself??

Lucinda A. Standringe

Lucy Standridge married Noah Lewis Jones in 1858 (according to her Civil War Pension application). She in not near her father in 1860. I have thought for 30 years that Noah was the son of John and Alapher Meek Jones of Newton County, but this week I found Lucy in Carroll County, AR in 1860. She is living with her Aunt Mary Standridge Jones. Her husband is there and he is listed as Mariah--but I think it should say Noah and either the census taker did not understand or the writing is misread. James and Mary Jones had a son named Noah the correct age to be Lucy's husband.

I have heard that after (rumor mill) Noah Jones died the next child Lucy had was by Geo. Gregory. Geo. is from Carroll county and grew up neighbors to Noah Jones. The people in the area that the Gregorys and Jones lived in mostly joined the Union Army because my Grandfather Geo. Ellis Gaddy was a strong Union man and he rode the country recruiting for the Union. What puzzled me was how could Lucy have had a child by Geo. Gregory as they lived no where near each other--BUT if Geo. and Noah were in the same unit of the MO. Cav. I think after Noah joined the army Lucy might have returned to her people in Newton Co. or she may have went to Ok. with her Aunt Mary Standridge Jones. After Noah was killed it would make sense that Geo. returned to tell Lucy about what happend to Noah. Then later she had a child by Geo. or his brother. Her name is Gnetta Jones.

I am quering who might know who the other children's father was? Lucy had 2 more children--Rosa and Caty Jones and never married. She drew a small pension on Noah Jones and I believe that is why she never married. Another rumor is she had a son by Richard Standridge (Lemuel) that he and his wife raised.

I am not here to judge what others have done in the past but wonder if anyone out there can shed any passed down stories about Lucy and WHO her children belong to? Who can tell me where she lived in 1870? If she is not in Carroll Co. AR with Aunt Mary Jones in 1860, where is she in 1860. She is not living near her father in 1860 or 1870! Also, I can not find Geo. Gregory or his brother in 1870 or 1880--where are they?

I hope someone will share what they know with me abut Lucy Standridge Jones and her children!

If your mother does not know, some of the information will be on their marriage certificate, and divorce papers. There are numerous standridges, so that is why you need this info.
Do you know who Virgil's parents were? The Standridge family is quite large. Do you have his date of birth or anything. I would look in the Ark. Census. You will probably find him in them. The Standridge's all stayed within 3 counties of Ark. Hope it helps, Sandy

I haven't done any research on this line at all yet, but my dad's grandfather was Virgil Standridge. That is all I know at this time except that Dad said he was full blood Cherokee and can't remember his wife's name or the cemetary where they are buried but were from Scotland, Van Buren Co., AR and buried in small town close to Clinton, AR. Virgils daughter, Mattie Otie Standridge Tate, my grandmother always told us that her father was a full blood Cherokee too. I am just beginning my search on my dad's side of the family and would love information on Virgil.

Hi - I also need help on the Standridges. The last one on your list, Sarah Stanridge, who married Bozell, was a daughter of Elijah who was living next to Thomas in Boone Co. Sarah's second husband was George German. They were my husband's g-grandparents. Elijah, who married Mary Johns, moved his family to Tipton Co. where Sarah married Stephen Bozell. From Dec 1853 to Aug 1854, while in Tipton Co, Elijah and Mary lost 4 of their youngest children. I do not know the cause, but would assume it was an illness. Elijah then moved his family to western Indiana, settling in Warren Co. That is where Sarah met George German. I do not know what happened to Stephen Bozell.
In one of your posts, I see you mentioned that Thomas received a pension. Do you have a copy of those records?
I would appreciate anything you have that would help me identify Elijah's family.
Sincerely, Malinda

Hi, I saw your post. I am the granddaughter of Lottie Winifred Baker Standridge (1911-2003) out of Lithia Springs, Georgia. I currently live in Alaska. We didn't know many of granny's sisters/brothers, but she married Steve Standridge and had six children in Douglas County. I wonder if we are related?

Can you please tell us your source for the information that Thomas Standridge married Ellenor and had Thomas, James, and Alexander?

We had a family member who lived near Washington, DC do research there trying to find information. What she found was church records in Maryland, which stated that Thomas Standridge married Mary Graves and they had several daughters who were baptized into the church. No sons were listed in these records.

If I remember correctly, she found passenger lists for two seperate Thomas Standridges who arrived about four years apart.

C. L. and Lina Boyd
Dover, Arkansas
