I am searching for information on a female Stanger who married a man named Reighn. They had three children that I know of, Richard, Charles and Laura b. Jan 1876. They are supposed to have lived in Camden, NJ. Laura m. Wilmer Johnson
abt. 1892. Wilmer worked in the glass factories, and with the
Stanger family being connected with the glass factories in Southern NJ, I wondered if ggrandmother Stanger could have been from this family. Does anyone know?

Everett W. Stanger

Independence, MO - Everett W. Stanger, 92, of Independence, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Lakewood Care Center.

Everett was born July 20, 1917, to Chris and Florence Stanger in Doby Springs, OK. He attended William Chrisman High School and joined the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, Everett began working for Armco Steel as a machinist and retired in 1979 after 33 years of service. He was a member and past commander of the VFW Post 1000, American Legion Post 21, Sixth Infantry Division, and United Steel Workers of America Local 13.

Everett is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Ruth C. Stanger; son Ed Stanger and wife Kaye; daughter Carol Hotter and husband Robert; daughter Patricia Stanger; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; and granddaughter Dianna Stanger.

Funeral Visitation will be from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2010, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Chapelwith burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers, and memorial donations to either the VFW National Home, 3573 S. Waverly Rd., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 or Kansas City Hospice, 14500 E. 42nd St., Independence, Mo 64055.

John was the son of William and Anna Galster Stanger. He is survived by his widow, Eva: a daughter, Ester of Dollvill: and a brother, Chris of Sugar Creek, MO.

Unfortunately not related but interested to find any family descended from Joseph b.1854 and Mary Ango. Mary's family came over to the Allegheny City area in the 1830's or thereabouts. They seem to be connected to the Ungoed family from Wales, Uk. I have copies of letters written by her father.

I have Hannah Stanger born 14th Mar. 1820
Robert her Father was born 12th July 1794, he Mar. Jane Bamlet in 1817. she died in 1861.
Robert had 7 Children James 1818, Hannah 1820, George 1823, Jane 1824, Elizabeth 1825,Robert 1828, Ann 1830.
Robert 1794 died on the 1st of June 1867.
Hannah 1820 had a son called Robert

Stanger Roy C, 94, R. 2, Ligonier, (Wawaka) died on Nov. 23 in Strawberry Village Nursing Home in Ligonier.

He was born Oct. 1, 1881 in Huntington County, the son of Emanuel and Josephine (Coffee) Stanger, and had been a resident of the Wawaka community for the past 55 years.

On April 10, 1910 he married Ruth LaRue who died in 1972. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include 5 sons, Otis, Stevensville, Mich., Lee Roy, Fort Wayne, John, Denver, Don, Tampa, Fla., and Kenneth, Fort Wayne; 3 daughters, Mrs. William (Virginia) Johnson, Boston, Mrs. Nelson (Bonnie) Showers, St. Johns, Mich., and Mrs. Walter (Opal) Hollister, Bellevue, Mich.; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Fern Heeter, Huntington.

Funeral Tuesday in Ulrey Funeral Home, Ligonier. Burial, Oak Park Cemetery.

JOSEPHINE STANGER DIES AT AGE OF 82______ Funeral Services Sunday at Fairview Near Servia

Mrs. Josephine Stanger, 82 died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her grandson, Harold Stanger, Ligonier, where she had been visiting. She was ill only a short time.

Mrs. Stanger was born January 11, 1860 to Frederick and Nancy Derf. Her marriage to Emanuel Stanger took place September 29, 1878 in Wabash County. The husband died February 7, 1934.

Surviving children are four daughters, Mrs. Ellen Young, Bippus; Mrs. Cora Worthington, Oak Harbor, Ohio; Mrs. Fern Heeter, Huntington and Mrs. Elmer Hanson, Bock, Minn., and three sons, Roy Stanger, Wawaka; Alvah Stanger, Converse and Harlan Stanger, Huntington. A sister, Mrs. Jennie Hippensteel lives a Servia. Twenty-nine grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Stanger had made her home with her children and other relatives since the death of her husband. She was a member of the Christian Church at Servia.

The body was brought to the Kilty Funeral Home where friends may call after 6p.m. Thursday to 2 p.m. Friday when the body will be taken to the home of the son-in-law and daughter , Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Young of Bippus where friends may call.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fairview Church near Servia with the Rev. Noah McCoy officiating.

Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery.

Emanuel Stanger, seventy-seven, died at 7:30 o’clock Thursday morning at his home, 902 Kintz Street. He had been an invalid for the last four years. He had lived here for fifteen years.

Mr. Stanger was born August 2, 1856 in Warren Township to John and Rebecca Stanger. His marriage was to Josephine Derf on September 29, 1878, at North Manchester by the Rev. Wiley Jordan.

The widow, seven children, Mrs. Theodore Young, Bippus; Roy Stanger, Mawake, Ind., Alva Stanger, Converse: Mrs. Perry Worthington, Oak Harbor, Ohio; Mrs. Carl Heeter, Huntington; Mrs. Elmer Hanson, Milaca, Wis., and Harlan Stanger, South Bend. A brother Philip, Independence Mo., twenty-eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, survive.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Church at Bippus. Funeral services will b held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Fairview Church in Wabash County with the Rev. L. Salzeber, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Church, in charge. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

My ex-husband was a Stanger born in Chicago IL in 1944. His father told him that he was related to a Rev. Stanger from Wytheville, VA whose decendents moved to the mid-west. We actually went to Wytheville in 1989 and saw the graves. Unfortunately, we later divorced and lost contact and now my daughter is wanting information about the Stangers.

Father-in-law Hallie M Stanger lived in Mower MN according to 1920 census. His father Otis Stanger was born in Indiana in 1873 and married Kate b. 1881 in Indiana. I'm looking for that Indiana connection!

Hi Tombi, There is a German STANGER that settled in the USA
In Glasburg ?/ or something similar - would need to check back in my papers. Don't believe that they are connected to the STANGERS of Kent England.
Then there are the Orkney STANGERS.

Years ago - I followed some infor about the German STANGERS in the USA - a wee bit -and found no connection - though - way back when ? perhaps.
Seems that some STANGER originated in Finland/Norway or ?
some came to UK. Believe there is a placename in Ukraine/ Russia or? named STANGER. - surname well spread out.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, William STANGER (Doctor and Surveyor General of Natal) was on of my ggg grandfather's cousins....another of the Northamptonshire STANGERS.
It would be interesting to find out if there is a connection between these too lines....unfortunately too busy recording actual relations! I will leave that until such time as I have no invistigative work on my direct line to do.

John STANGER of Bessells Green then I'm afraid you are talking about an entirely separate family. Rev. John STANGER of Bessells Green then, as I said in my earlier message he was born in Moulton, Northamptonshire, England. His immediate ancestors Thomas STANGER born 1706 Moulton, Northamptonshire died 22 May 1768 in Holcott, Northamptonshire whose wife was Sarah (Sally) MASON was also from Moulton in Northamptonshire.
His father was the Rev. William STANGER born in 1668 in Harringworth, Northamptonshire Endland d 1740 Moulton, Northamptonshire was married to Elizabeth STAUGHTON born Blisworth, Northamptonshire, England d before 19 Sep 1728 in Blisworth, Northamptonshire.
His father was William STANGER born 1638 at Harringworth, Northamptonshire, England d bef 20 Feb 1716 in North Luffenham, Rutland, England who was married to Isobel UNKNOWN who died before 27 Jan 172 at Harringworth, Northamptonshire, England.
The previous generation being Thomas STANGER BORN 1610 in Harringworth, Northamptonshire, England d unknown married to Unknown UNKNOWN.
I cannot say that none of the descendants emigrated to the U.S.A. as I don't know .....
Continuing my line from Rev. John STANGER of Bessells Green I'm descended from his son Samuel William STANGER b 1781 in Kent England d 17 Nov 1875 at 6 Albion Grove, Stoke Newington, London, England. He was married to Mary Wright born Ongar, Essex, England.
Their eldest son Samuel STANGER b 15th April 1808 in Battersea, London, England d 15 August 1877 at the house of his son in law J.W. WEIR at the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa) was married to Amelia Sarah Freeman b 30 March 1811 Plymouth, Devon, England. She died in 1867 at Cradock in the Eastern Cape of Good Hope (South Africa)....their daughter, my great great grandmother Amelia Lockington STANGER was born in England and died in South Africa as did her younger sister Mercy.All of the above were members of one form of the Baptist Church or another....my ggg grandfather Samuel STANGER went to South Africa as a lay Baptist missionary.....my gg grandmother became a Methodist, joining her husband's church....since then descendants have belonged to several different protestant denominations.
I have heard of a German Branch of the STANGER family, but we don't appear to be connected to them.

I presume you are meaning John STANGER of Bessels Green b 18 Jan 1743 Moulton Northamptonshire, England died 13 April 1823 Bessels Green, Seven Oaks, Kent, England. He married twice. His first wife was Mary Smith Born 1746 England d 1776. They were married on the 31st December 1766. by whom he had 6 children.
I'm descended from his second wife Mary LINDRIDGE BORN 1748 in England d 1835 Sevenoaks, Kent, England. They were married on the eth June 1778 in Chevening, Kent England. They had 7 children. Their second child and son Samuel William STANGER is another of my ancestors.
John STANGER of Bessells Green's parents were Thomas STANGER born 1706 Moulton, Northamptonshire England died 22 May 1768 Holcott, Horthamptonshire, England and Sarah (Sally) MASON born 1706 Moulton, Northamptonshire, England died 1781, Moulton, Northamptonshire. I have some information on him - He was born in Pickworth, Rutland.

I suspect he is a cousin of my ancestor, Thomas Stanger, also born in Pickworth, but I haven't yet any direct evidence of this.

Obituaries if Published may prove helpful

Don't know about US.Marriage Registrations from that time frame - But may show names of both sets of parents - including mothers maiden name -place of birth of parents

Have you searched U.S.Census prior to the marriage of Charles and Mary?

Have you searched IGI -perhaps there may be some information.

Perhaps post to the Message Boards for Pennsylvania - may prove helpful - People may view those sites - and not a particular Surname site.

I've just seen your post regarding John Stanger marrying Mary Lindridge.

I'm researching my own Lindridge tree, and don't have her on it. The children's names are so similar to many of my family, especially William, Samuel, Sarah and Joseph, that I wonder if she belongs on my tree? Do you know her parentage, or her siblings?

I've seen the name Stanger in Kent several times in my research.

There were quite a number that originated in Germany - and immigrated to the U.S.A. I think originally settling in the Eastern USA.

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I honestly do not know at this point in my research.Wm. Stanger Sr. m. Nancy Sheppard abt. 1841. My research is mostly with the Sheppard line. I am going to do extended lines eventually. There are several Stangers descended from Wm. and Nancy. Maybe these can help you-Wm.
