I also have the 15 day trial. Which I need to really get on the stick and decide if I can figure out the site to get what I need to get from it. However, this was a VERY exciting email to receive.

Not sure if you remember my brother, Don, he and his wife, Patty, were just visiting from FL and left this morning. We had a family reunion and had a ball.

Both my parents are gone but my brother and all my sisters (8 of them) are doing well. Most live in the Altoona area. I have one sister living in Langhorne, PA, one in VA and my brother in FL.

My goodness, how old is your mom?

Sorry to hear you have been hit with cancer. I will put you on my prayer list at St. Peregrine's at the Grotto. He is the Patron Saint of Cancer patients. Hope the job market opens up a bit and that you find something suitable soon.

Guess I better actually do some work today. Take care and we will definitely keep in touch.

Helen

This really is incredible and I only have a 15 day trial on this website. So, I guess it was meant to be. Yes, we should stay in touch - I am at cjvandyke@cox.net. We are both doing well. I am currently unemployed due to a lay off, but I have survived breast cancer and this is only a set back. I am sure I will find work soon. I have been married for 30 years to the same guy and we have a daughter, who lives part time in Alaska and part time in Antarctica; she is getting married this fall. Our son is a grad student in SC (near Tracy) and my husband and I live in Virginia. I'm sure Tracy will be very excited, too. I sent her an email telling her to look for your email. Our dad passed away but mom is alive and well and living in Arkansas where our brother, Tom, is a physician. Our sister Sharon lives in Virginia too and is a teacher.

Take care. Keep in touch.
Carol

HOLY CRAP!!!!

I am so excited I can't even begin to tell you. I have tried desperately to find both of you. I have a few photos of Ruth from when she was in the band and traveling around. I believe I was married to Tom Holmberg at the time and I lived in Altoona. Fast forward many years and I am now living in Harrisburg PA with my 2nd husband, Bob Wallace. It is so good to hear from you and I can't believe you found this post either. We have to keep in touch.

My work email is hewallac@hacc.edu and my home email is hwallace@early.com.

I am actually in tears as I am writing this. I care about the both of you so much. LOVED to hear the two of you sing together and I have wondered for MANY years if I would ever know what became of the two of you. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, a hundred times over for finding this.

Helen

Hi Helen -

Well, I am Carol and my sister is Ruth and we lived on 18th Street in Altoona - moving away to Shamokin PA. Ruth changed her name when she was old enough (she always hated her name). She is now Tracy and you can reach her at TracyMac8@bellsouth.net. She is married, has two children and lives in SC. Can't believe I found this post; my good friend was named Helen so I thought you might be her. Hope you are well and I'm sure Tracy will be happy to hear from you (she's not the greatest at checking emails, but I'll let her know).

I have a few STANKs listed in my family tree. My grandmother is Augusta STANK b. 4 Sep 1900 in Pound, WI d. 10 Noc 1990 In Seymour, WI. She married Emil GUSECK. I show her parents as Samuel STANK and her mother as Minnie KOWALSKY or KOWALSKI. Samuel is from Russia. I have info on Augusta's children, there are ten in all. If this appears to be from your line let me know and we can help each other out with filling in the gaps. As STANK is not a common name I am assuming that it would be the same STANks you are looking for.

Jeff

I'm trying to find what became of my great-great Granfather's 2nd wife. Her name was Constance (Cassie) Stankavage. I know she had a sister who lived in Shenandoah Heights. Cassie married my great-great grandpa around 1903. Around 1916 or thereabouts, she "disappeared" ie: she left her husband.

I will have to find out more over the holidays when I see him again. He is 95 this year. His father owned creameries in Pound before Borden came in and squeezed him out.

He had my grandfather, Arthur, and Lester, and Francis, and one daughter, Elsie. Les died around 1980.

From what I have been told, I thought the family came from Prussia and had a longer name that was shortened a few times. Some (including my grandpas brothers) have used Stanke. My grandfather's grandfather thought that sounded to 'Italian' to him and he dropped the 'e'.

Thanks for the info, and I will try to find out more over the holidays.

My Stank family, although we know that was not the original family named, arrived here in 1851. Some of the records state from Germany although they all spoke Polish. I found them in the 1900 census in Shamokin PA. And who I think are brothers so my gg uncles in 1880 census also in Shamokin PA. My dad recalls his family referring to their last name as Stankovich, spelling unknown.

any ideas where I could even begin looking for, shipping records, why they aren't in the census etc?

My gg grandfather was George Stank who married Mary McArthur of PA. GG Uncles are Peter and Augustus (August). August was married to Josephine Goheen and had a son John who later became a PA state rep. Based on these two details we are sure we are related to them.

what do you think? Are we related?

I appreciate your response. It appears our ancestors may have come from the same area. My Stank (Stankevage), was born in Shenandoah, PA in 1895. Her father was Casimir Stankevage also spelled Kazimer Stankiewicz. I have no record of his birth but his wife was from Poland. I would enjoy hearing any information that you might have concerning the Stank name.

Seeking any information on my grandmother. Her name was Martha Katherine Mulson. She married Alfred Stank in 1905 in Shamokin PA.
She was orphaned at an early age and helped raise her two sisters and brother, Eva, Charles and Veronica. Eventually all were taken in by other familes and last name supposedly changed. Any information is appreciated.

My great grandfather arrived in America in 1851. His name was George Stank although we know it was Americanized. He married Mary mcArthur and lived in the Shamokin, Coal, Schuylkill Haven areas of PA. Would this be in relation?

Hi Tammy,
I'm not sure this is the info you wanted, but it may help some to clear up the spelling of the Stank name. The family name I was looking for was documented as Stankevage in 1895 in Shenandoah, but in 1889 it was recorded as Stankiewicz in the county of Schuylkill. Naturalization papers listed Russia Poland as origin. I'm sure you know it was not unusual for many immigrants to shorten their names after arriving in America. Thus, the Stank name.
