I have yours and at least two other John Downer Stapleton descendants of our GA Stapleton firewall and original Stapleton of this line: George Lawson Stapleton, b. 1760 Loudoun Co., VA, married to Margaret Downer b.1768,Ireland; dau of John Downer. These families are well documented. Try search at FTDNA for Stapleton, George Lawson.

Reedy Creek, Jefferson Co., is correct.

If you provide your e-address direct to me at artss344@comcast.net, I will send all to you via Internet if you have FTDNA program. Presently in my file there are about 4000 +/- entries for this family. George Lawson Stapleton, the original, told his descendants that his parents came from England and he was born here, 1760. In 1965 a family member produced the then current family names in a book about Stapleton's of Georgia. My file has recent added family descendants.
The Irish spoken pronunciation for Downer is "Dooner".
Art Stapleton

Art Stapleton, CA

I was wondering if you had any information on what kind of preacher Samuel was? Also, if there is any Indian blood? My grandfather Boyd, as well as Irene, has a lot of Indian features.

Vera

Stapleton - Sadler

Looking for any information pertaining to the families of John James Stapleton born about 1872 Swaffham, Norfolk, England and Mary Anna Sadler. John James was the son of James Stapleton and Mary Wailing who were married Nov 20 1868. They had 2 children Susannah (b Jul 2 1870 Swaffham Norfolk, England) and John James. John James married Mary Anna Sadler March 1903 , they had 3 children Arthur James (born Mar 30 1904), Barbara Ellen (born Mar 8 1905 Downham, Cambridgeshire, England) and Frederick Roy (born 1907 Wisbech, St Peter, Cambridgeshire, England). According to the 1911 census the three children were in an institution (I believe either a work house or an orphanage) but I can`t seem to find what happen to John and Mary Anna. From stories I have been told over the years, Arthur and Barbara went to live with their Aunt Susan, but I'm not sure what happened to Frederick. Arthur married Edith Patterson June 1930, Barbara married Sydney Charles Bennett July 20, 1927 in Thetford, Norfolk, England had 1 child Marjorie 1928 (Thetford) before moving to Ontario Canada May 18, 1930 where they had another child Gladys 1933 (Ontario). Barbara was keeping in touch with both brothers up until WW2 when she lost touch with Frederick Roy Stapleton, which then made her believe that he had died in the war somewhere either in India or Africa??? But to the contrary, as I have found records where he was married to a Kathleen Annie Crofts in March 1940 – Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England and had 1 child (b 1941) and after the war they had another child (b 1948).
Would greatly appreciate any information on Frederick Roy Stapleton and also any information on what actually happened to John and Mary Anna before and after 1911. Thanks gggrandaughter of James and Mary; ggrandaughter of John and Mary Anna, granddaughter of Barbara, daughter of Gladys.
Hello I think both of our stapleton trees are connected..
I believe your William was born in 1849 and his parents were John(b.approx 1817) and Margaret (possibly McCarthy).. and so far I believe that John's parents were Michael and Mary

if your William is the one I think he is, his siblings were James, Charles, Margaret, John, Jane and Joanna who were all born between 1840 & 1852 around the Glen Innes region of NSW (which would include Warialda/Inverell?)
Not sure if this helps but I am fairly your william is the one in my tree.

I just had a quick search on NSW BDM site and there was a William Stapleton who married a Frances Wright approx 1874? not sure if that means anything to your search...

I would be interested in what other dates, names and info you have on your Stapletons also as I would like to fill a few more branches of my tree..

Walter Stapleton and Family

I am looking for information on Walter Stapleton & and some of his children. He is listed as father on my mother in laws birth certificate. Dorothy Alberta Stapleton Lock never spoke of him to her family. He left the family when they were all small I think. Walter was married or living with, Henrieta Roffe and they had 4 children, Dorothy, Hazel, Douglas & Reginald Stapleton. All born in the 1914 - 1920 era. They lived in the Scarboro, County of York (Toronto area)Canada. Douglas was in the Navy, and may have eventualy moved to BC? Reginald died in Sept.1, 1991, this I know from a family diary. Hazel lived for many years in Ripley, Ontario area, with her husband Joseph Cadeau, Henrieta Roffe Stapleton stayed in her later life with them.
I think the two brothers or one of them had a sign painting or making bus.? In the Toronto area. We have no contact information for any of Dorothy's family.
Just throwing this out there hoping for any information at all.
Thank you :)
Heidi, along with the book of elder George Lawson Stapleton, b. 1760 Loudoun Co., VA and extended families, I have added 25 pages as an Addendun. It contains worthy information to add to some of the families since the book became available in 1967. I noted there are a few new names, etc. of the Sapp family not included in the book. Much other stuff, too. I have not located the Bussell's in the book or Addendum. Granger's are in the book along with Laura Sapp. I'll e-mail it to you if I receive your e-addresses. The Addendum and book are available in WORD format to family members. The book is 232 pages plus Addendum is 257 pages.
artss344@comcast.net Art S.

Heidi, If your mother's copy of the Georgia Stapleton's is titled "Some Georgia Settlers of State of Georgia Beatys, Peels, Stapletons" I may be able to provide a copy on CD. Laura Sapp m. Joseph Granger 1917. I'm looking for Bussell, too. Contact me direct Art Stapleton: artss344@comcast.net
The index of the book does not have a complete names list.
My mother has a family book that was written on the Stapletons in Geogia. My grandmother's maiden last name was Stapleton and is linked to James Stapleton. This is so cool to me. I wish I could copy the book and send it to you. I might be able to.

Heidi

Hello Lisa, I know that it has been a long time since your posting in 2001 but I have only just noticed the Messages in Ancestry. I am descended from Samuel and Hannah Barber; they are my 3XG grandparents. I was born in Basford but didn't start my genealogy until I was living in Western Australia. I was a choirboy at St Leo's in the 1940's. I have the tree back to John born in 1600 and married to Elizabeth Watkinson.
Are you and I related?
Regards, Malcolm Holmes.

Hi Barb,

I just saw your post from Feb, 2000, on Ancestry's message board.

I just started researching Murray Stapleton. His first wife was my great aunt, Helen Ryan, born in Ohio. Helen died in Cleveland Ohio in 1919. My grandfather, James Ryan, was Helen's brother. He died when I was a year old.

From my census research, I found that Murray and Helen had a son named John N Stapleton, born in ohio, but living in Oregon with his father and stepmother, Constance, in the 1930 census.

I was wondering if you had any information about when and where Murray and Helen were married. I can't find any record of the marriage. I'd appreciate any information that you would have about the Stapleton family, including Murray, Helen, and their son John, and any other children they may have had.
Thank you,

Karen
I am trying to find out about my gggrandparents Denis Stapleton, b. County Tipperary, Ireland and Catherine (Kate) Cahill of Alexander County. They married in 1860 and settled in Cairo, Ill. My ggrandmother was their daughter Virginia. She married Thomas Webster Williams and lived in Cairo. Denis is listed on the 1860-1890 census records. Catherine apparently was born in Illinois of Irish parents and died in 1920. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there!

David Crockett Stapleton b Apr 1835 AL was the son of Solomon Stapleton & Elizabeth A White.

Elizabeth was b 8 Nov 1814 GA & died 2 Mar 1891 in Baldwin Co, AL. She's buried under a beautiful old tree at Old Stapleton Cemetery, 3 miles north of Stapleton just off US Hwy 31/59, Stapleton, Baldwin Co, AL and has a lovely upright marker. Buried near her are her brother, Robert J White, & his wife, Octavia. And also near Elizabeth is her son, James C.

Robert J and Elizabeth A White also had a brother named Asa who married Isabella Presley.

Elizabeth, Asa & Robert J were children of Jacob White. Jacob was born 1784 in NC (think Bertie Co) and died aft 18 Nov 1850. This last date is because he's listed in 1850 in household 383/383 Baldwin Co, AL Div 2 with Elizabeth & her husband, Solomon Stapleton as follows:

383/383 Solomon Stapleton 38, wife Elizabeth A 36, children David E 14, Matilda 14, William F 11, Sarah E 7, Charles 5, Josie 3, father-in-law Jacob White 66, brother Asa 27, Levi Griffin 23, Catherine Cobb 23 (I don't know what, if any, relationship there is between this family and Levi Griffin & Catherine Cobb).

As your last name appears to be White, I gave you more info on them. Are you a descendant of Asa or Robert White??

Lisa in Louisiana

This Stapleton Family is believed to have been descendants of Stephen Stapleton b. 1750, and Amelia. David was son of Solomon, b. 1812, and Elizabeth (nee) White, parents of 13 children including Solomon. I follow several Stapleton groups, all being non-dna matches. This is what I refer to as the Marlboro, CS, Stapleton Group. There are several principal researchers of this family. You may hear from them, too. Please send to me your e-address so that I can forward to you in either WORD or Family Tree Maker formats. Then I'll contact the Marlboro SC researchers ref. your inquiry. You may have new and/or better verified information to share.

Art Stapleton, of the early Stapleton Group who settled in State of GA.: artss344@comcast.net

Dorothy Stapleton / McCarville / McEntee

Hi there,

I am looking for information on my grandmother I guess.

She was born Dorothy Stapleton in September 1922 in Ireland (not sure exactly where) married Henry McCarville and whilst living in Monaghan, Ireland had 2 Children (Henry McCarville and Mary McCarville, who - to the best of my knowledge - still live in Monaghan).
She left Ireland with my grandfather - Peter McEntee - Who was born in 1918 and became known as Dorothy McEntee, though they never got married.
In Torquay / Newton Abbott, Devon, England they had 2 girls, Margaret McEntee, born 21/07/1952 and Carol McEntee - born 28/04/1962.
Dorothy then went missing in 1962 and has never been seen or heard of ever since.

This is the extent of my knowledge about my mother's side of the family and, as you can imagine, I don't want to ask my mum too many questions as I don't want to upset her. But, as my grandfather died in 1991 when I was just 9, I feel like I would really love to know more about who my family are and what my family history is.
If anyone thinks they recognise any of these details or can offer any information at all I would be so very grateful.

Many Thanks,
Sara

CATHSTAP, I research several dna distinct Stapleton families. In my search to see if I could help you with your BRIEN-DOYLE search. I had a hit within my own files suggesting we look in the Chetwyn Stapylton book "Stapyltons of Yorkshire". I looked in my copy, but could not find Henry in my perusal (nor Bridgit). However, I have a copy of the book and available to you as an
e-mail transfer to see if I missed something. Also, a few hits on another search that may be worth your reading for possible directions. I'll need your own e-address to send the book, etc.

Art Stapleton
