This younger Andrew was married to a miss Sophronia Misener (1874-1961) who was born in Ontario Canada.

Any info on the elder Andrew Stapleton would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Finding Robt Stapleton and Anna Maria Weigand

Some years ago my mother had gotten a packet of info. on Robert Stapleton, which included info. on him being a knight born in England in 1690, a Quaker, a fresco painter, etc. Having reached dead ends on most other lines, we decided to explore Robert to validate this information.

Fortunately, along the way I was able to meet up, via the internet, with some of the best genealogists I've gotten to know. (Carolyn Larkins, Diane Slagle Sheridan, Elaine Vinson, Joe Neilson, M'Lisa Whitney, and Lucile Marshall among others). They've combed records as carefully as they can be combed, some having also lived near the areas where Robert lived. I've found that about everything that we thought we knew to be right, was wrong. I had even posted that he was a fresco painter. There is no evidence of that. The Reverend Ammon Stapleton was probably the first to get the ball rolling on misinformation, as well meaning as I'm sure he was.

In a big nutshell, here are some of the things I've discovered:

Everyone puts his birth year at 1690, but we really have no evidence of that. The only thing we do know about his birth is that it occurred in New York, as he stated when he married Anna Maria Weigand: "Robert Stibbledown gebooren Yorck Eyland in New Yorck with jong Anna Maria Wygand beyde woonachiig am hoogland". Anna was born in 1695, so it's probably likely he could have been born around 1690.

Thre was a Robert Stapleton obtaining a lease on 17 Sep 1691 with his wife, Hannah, "for a certain piece of land lying beyond the Smiths ffly at the ffoot of the hill bounded Southwest by the land of Mr. Beekman..." We assume this to be the father and mother of our Robert. Hannah is seen again later as a witness for a birth 12 Dec 1694. Also, for this Robert (again, perhaps the father of "our" Robert) was given the duty on 1 Nov 1692 to be a superviser over some of the New York Carmen to repair highways.

There was also a Captain Robert Stapleton who died in New York City in 1702 from Yellow Fever, but we cannot find any correlation between any of the Roberts and him. Yet. If, by chance he was related, he would be Robert Jr.'s grandfather. Can't rule him in, can't rule him out.

A Mary Grigg of New York City left a will in 1695, leaving money to Robert Stapleton junior, when "he attains the age of 21". He have no idea what the relationship was between Mary and Robert.

Many people refer to Robert Stapleton as Robert "P" Stapleton, however what appeared to be a "P" may well have been an "X", as M'Lisa had stated: "There is no "P" in Robert's name. The "P" got started with Rev. Ammon as well. He saw Robert's mark ("Robert X Stapleton" - the X was his mark, the given and surname surround the mark in official documents that it it can't be altered) and the X is sort of a sloppy or cursive X, which could be interpreted as a "P" if one was uneducated in these things."

There are no Quaker records listing Robert as a Quaker.

I believe Robert had a sister named Elizabeth. There was an Elizabeth Stapelton who married William Byfieldt in New York, New York in 1711.

Neither Robert (husband of Weigand) or his son, Tobias, married a Hagenbuch. Both were much older than a daughter of Andreas' would be, and there is no evidence supporting this.

There is a Wineford Stapleton, widow, who married an Alexander Greencock around 1699 in New York. Would love to know if she tied in somehow and also more info. on this very elusive Alexander.

I hope eventually more information will be uncovered. Remember me if you find it :O)

Hi there,

I have a Nora Stapleton listed as a friend/contact on a New York Passenger List in 1920. Her address is written as Bank Place, Cashel, Co. Tipperary. This is likely to be her married name as her friend, Kate Byrne(Mulcahy)who was traveling, was 64 at the time. I'm making the assumption that Nora was a similar age.

Stapletons Marlboro County South Carolina and beyond

I am one of many descendants of Elizabeth Stapleton and Thomas T. Townsend (1765-1828). Thomas' sister Mary Townsend married William Stapleton. The Townsends and Stapletons moved from Marlboro County, South Carolina, through Georgia into Florida, Alabama (where Stapleton, Alabama gets its name) and Texas.

I am interested in finding any detals about the ancestry of the Stapleton siblings. I have seen on the internet that they were children of Stephen Stapleton and Amelia.. but there is no source for this. I have also seen Robert as a possible father. Does anyone have more complete information?

There are many interesting surnames and uncommon names used in the family which undoubtedly provide clues. It's hard to tell which ones are from Stapleton and which from Townsend but the Stapleton ones seem to include the name Lawson..which I see hooks up with the Stapleton/Stebleman family of Switzerland/Germany. There are other names in the family such as Maurice and Ludovic which sound French and German that might support this. Also the name Spencer which I think connects yet again to this family but am not sure.
I am looking for more information on Stapletons from County Tipperary in Ireland - specifically Thurles area.

I believe my great-great grandma, Bridget Stapleton married a Patrick Birmingham and had kids named: Ellen (1880), Margaret (1883), Mary aka Molly (1885), and Bridget(1888). I believe she died during childbirth with twins in Thurles and the catholic church in the town helped care for the remaning kids. They lived at 19 Parnell St. in Thurles.

Anyone with information that can help? They were related to the Mahers also.

Jessie later married Wallace Doyle. She died when Sidney was 5 years old.

If anybody has information on Stapletons who could be possible connections then their responses would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks.
he was born about 1724, some records show his father as John Stapleton, but the majority show him as a son of Thomas Stapleton II, and a grandson of Thomas Stapleton I. Thomas Stapleton II married Margaret Mary Williamson, his father Thomas Stapleton I married Frances Needles. Thomas Stapleton II was born about 1689. Thomas Stapleton I is shown as being the son of John Stapleton born about 1630 and Mary (Unk maiden name). If this line is correct, it means I have a link to about 9 kings of old England

Stapletons from Newfoundland, Canada

I am the grandson of William (Mr. Bill) and Gertrude (Miss Gertie) Stapleton. Last residence, Marystown, Nfld, Canada. My mother is Rita Stapleton Keywork. I am familiar with my close relatives such as Aunts, Uncles, cousins, But I am searching for information on older ancestors. I know my grandfathers (Mr. Bill's) parents were Alexander Stapleton and Elizabeth Francis Ducey. I think Alexander Stapleton's parents were John Stapleton and Mary Martin. It is possible that John Stapleton came originally from Dartmouth, Devonshire, England. My grandfather's mother, Elizabeth Francis Ducey's last name may have been spelled Doucey at some point. Her parents may have been William Ducey and Anne Power. William Ducey's father may be James Ducey.
I do not have any information on my grandmother's (Miss. Gertie's) parents, or family. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking for information on J.W. (b. abt. 1891) and Mannie (b. abt. 1893) Stapleton of Cedar Key, Levy Co., FL. They appear in the 1920 Census in Levy County with their three daughters, Johnie Mae (b. May 13, 1913), Mary Lee (b. abt. 1916), and Jessie (b. about 1918). They also had a son, Alexander b. June 18, 1921. After that they seem to drop off the planet. The only other thing I know was that Mannie died in a drowning accident some time after 1921 at Daytona Beach, Volusia Co. I haven't located an obituary on that yet.

I would like to know:
- what J.W. stands for, and what Mannie might be a nickname for
- who both their ancestors were
- how he might be related to other Stapletons of Levy Co., FL
- what Mannie's maiden name was
- death dates and burial locations

Thanks for any help!
Looking for info for John Stapleton, possibly New Jersey
I am looking for what happened to John Stapleton. According to his marriage license to Josephine Edwards in 1930 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, he was born July 15, 1902 in New Jersey to Robert Stapleton (born Dublin, Ireland) and Rose. They divorced and John was said to have moved back to New Jersey. To complicate things, on their marriage license his wife had crossed out his birth year and place and wrote in 1891, England. Would like to find out if he remarried, had any other children (he had a daughter with Josephine), and when and where he died.

David Stapleton born Ireland 1771

I am in search of my ggggf David Stapleton whom I believe was born in Ireland. He was a Lieutenant in the Army and is recorded on his death cert at Portsea,Hampshire as previously being with the 41st Regiment. He died in 1847(Portsea) In the 1841 census he was living with his daughters Sarah, Mary Ann and Lucy in Portsea.

Sarah was born in Tipperary abt 1801, Mary Ann at Cadiz Spain abt 1815 and Lucy b.Motherbank(Hamp) in 1816.

His other children that I have discovered so far were William b. Dublin 11 Dec 1809 and David who was born abt 1810 and who became a RN Officer.

I have good history about son William. Very little about son David other than his marriage to Christina Magill at Tralee in 1848

David's wife, at least in 1816 was Lucinda whom I believe was probably Spanish and from Cadiz where he was serving, attached to British Embassy and was a Paymaster to the Kings German Legion.

David may have been married before. He may also have served in the 2nd Battalion of the 47th Regiment.

I am most interested to make contact with anybody who can shed any light on David's origins. Maybe you have a missing link in your Stapleton research.

We are still desperately searching for parents of George Lawson Stapleton b. 1760 d. 1833. He was married to Margaret Downer in 1783. We have determined via DNA testing that he was NOT the son Robert Stapleton of Oley PA. The middle name of Lawson may have been assumed during his lifetime and may or may not have been a given name.

Any information would be helpful

Info can be emailed to Penners@carolina.rr.com

DNA Project - All versions Stapleton name

The DNA PROJECT for all versions of the STAPLETON name has enrolled a few, but we know there needs to be a good and plentiful variety of male participants. Each of your immediate family branches should provide several participants. The sorting out of family groups and the finding of your true ancestors is very much worth the few minutes it takes to get it done. Stapleton family members have shown a real interest in the project. Females who are ineligible as not having the Y chromosome have shown a particularly strong interest and may never know their actual roots unless a sufficient number of the men help out by providing DNA. The sample collection is simply a collection from inside the cheek using something similar to a swab. No blood.

Please do not wait to see what others are doing. Let's all go for it NOW!!

Please, today, get in touch with Paul Stapleton who is coordinating this particular project. Paul will help you enroll. pauls@stapleton-consulting.com

If you need more technical information, it may be obtained from the experts at the experienced firm handling our Stapleton Project. www.familytreedna.com

Please do it now.

Art Stapleton
916 338 2360

Paul Stapleton
303 579 4793

PS: If you cannot participate, please consider nominating and helping fund others who are willing. So many questions may be answered soon if we don't let this drag on and on.

Stapleton/Hagenbuch

My line is from Robert P. Stapleton and Anna Maria unknown. I only have the name of one child, my ancestor Tobias Stapleton. He was born about 1710 in Berks County Pa and died about 1804 in Albany, Berks. Tobias married Anna Barbara Hagenbuch who was born in Wurtemburg, Germany. She was the daugther of Andrew Hagenbuch. I am from a child of Tobias and Anna who was Magdalene Stapleton born about 1742 in Berks and died 1786 in Northumberland PA. Magdalene married Jacob Dreese about 1760 in Albany, Berks County. The children of Jacob Dreese and Magdalene Stapleton are: Jacob Dreese, Mary Magdelene Dreese, Anna Barbara Dreese, John Peter Dreese, Catherine Dreese, Mary Dreese and Christina Dreese. I am from Jacob Dreese who moved to Snyder County Pennsylvania. Jacob married Catherine Smith who had Leah Dreese and lived in Juniata County Pennsylvania. Leah married John William Fike and this is my line from Robert P. Stapleton. If this sounds sort of familiar to anyone, please feel free to e-mail me and we can compare notes. It's woodcock@pa.net. I'd be glad to hear from you and I do have more information too much to list on this post.

Does anyone know anything the Stapleton's in Dale County Alabama and this incident. I found this reference in the Dallas Public Library today. Were Zeno and Zenothan two different individuals?
