I am looking for information on Edson A Stark, born in South Dakota in 1891, later moved back to the family area of North East Pennsylvania, and possibly NYC in the 1930s.

He married Gladys Graves in 1913 and my Grandmother Charlotte was born in 1914.

I have been unable to trace him, or find any information about his life or death after my grandmother moved to NYC in high school.

Any pointers or info would be appreciated

They lost contact when the Stark family moved to the States. Archie's middle name, McPherson, was his grandmother Flora's maiden name. The McPherson's and McDonald's orginate from Moidart, near Fort William.

Re: Robert Lucas Stark. RMS Lusitania

In researching my family tree, I have a reference to Robert Lucas Stark, b. 1855, Dumfries:
Thomas Lucas (spouse of 'cousin' Catherine McAllister whom he married in 1862) had at least one sister, named Ann Lucas.
Ann Lucas married widower William Stark in December 1850.
William Stark had previously been married to Elizabeth Arthur (their marriage date was April 23, 1830), and I'm aware of 7 children from that marriage: Ann, Christian, Jane, Elizabeth, Alexander, David and Elizabeth Jane. The youngest, Elizabeth Jane Stark, was born in Kilmarnock in 1847, so Elizabeth Arthur's death date would be between 1847 and 1850.

I've seen nothing to suggest that Ann Lucas had a prior marriage or any children born before her 1852 marriage. I've found records of only 2 children from the marriage of William Stark and Ann Lucas, namely:
Margaret Lamb Stark, born 1852 in Govan
Robert Lucas Stark, born 1855 in Dumfries

Since Robert Lucas Stark's birth occurred in Dumfries, we can deduce that the Stark family left Govan and relocated in Dumfries between 1852 and 1855. Their address when the 1861 Census was taken was Doctors Well, Dumfries. Five children were enumerated in their household - 3 from William Stark's first family, and Ann's two children - Margaret and Robert. Ten years later, the Stark family were still residing at Doctors Well, with Margaret, age 19, and Robert, age 15. Also enumerated at Doctors Well in 1871 were Thomas Lucas, his wife Catherine and their son Archibald Lucas (my relatives).

According to the marriage record of Thomas Lucas, his parents were named as Robert Lucas and JANET Gowdie. However, the IGI records point to ELIZABETH Gowdie (rather than JANET Gowdie) being the mother of both Thomas and Ann Lucas.
-end-

Julie--Thanks. The families are hard to trace because they all had such large families. My grandmother was Ruth Stark and she had 12 children. It seems like the further back it goes the easier it has been to track down dates and connections. I have having a hard time connecting my gg grandfather Charles Stark and his sons Arthur and Harold Grant Stark [my g grandfather]to the Gen. John Starks, which I am told a many times greatfather to me. Anyways thank you and good look in your search

Hi Robin!! I just thought I would write as your latest message rang a bell. I am also researching the Stark family, for my partner. His great grandmothers maiden name was Stark, and was from Glasgow in Scotland. On the LDS site I found an Archibald Stark, again born in Glasgow.

My partners mother is still around and I will be meeting her to go through what I have to date. I will ask her if any of your info rings as bells through family rumours etc. In the meantime I will carry on researching Glasgow Starks and will let you know if I find anything that could be of use!!

By the way, there was an Archibald Stark born in 1921, who died in the second world war. His parents were John and Isabella.

Take Care

Julie

I read all your posts, but found nothing very informative in them. FYI, if you are still looking for this info, Gen John's son Benjamin Franklin Stark was born 01/16/1777 and was married to Elizabeth Cushing. I have been able to trace Gen John from his gggfather John of Killermont the Elder to some of Gen John's grandchildren. I come to an end in the early 1800's and since most of them seemed to have had very large families is is quite an involved process. No one else in my family was ever very interested in geneology and most have moved away from that area. My mother is the only relative I have that I can ask questions. I am just trying to find the missing pieces in the 1800's that will either connect or disconnect me to Gen. John. Nothing I said in my original post was a rumor or a story and I found your insinuation to this in relation to what I was asking offensive and rude.

I did and no one could help there either. It's such a rich history of soccer and it's something to be proud of. Thanks again!

He played with Archie on the Irish Americans for several years and was on the winning 33-34 team with him. It has been so difficult to locate information or a photo of him and I was hoping he might have popped up in a photo with Archie. In all the NY Times articles I pulled up, he and Archie would assist each other often. Thanks so much for anything anyone might be able to help with.

Hi Shayshouse,

Regarding the DNA testing suggested by beuren1, is your husband named Stark? The Y DNA testing only works if the male line is his relationship back to William Stark b. 1677 of Lanarkshire, Scotland. If that is the case, it would indeed be wonderful if he was DNA tested.

Could you explain his line more? i.e. William Harvie Stark’s father, grandfather, etc.

Looking at the visual representation of the lines of descent of the men who have been Y DNA tested, no one from William Harvie Stark’s line has been tested thus far (http://homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/StarkLines.html#Scottish). More information about these men and their ancestral lines is posted on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~clovis/y-d...).

Cordially,

Sheila.Schmutz@usask.ca
Has he been tested in the DNA studies? I would LOVE to see if this line is in group 2 of the Stark lines.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Stark/default.aspx?secti...

Have my husbands Stark line back to William Stark who was born 1677. He was born in Westahield, Carstairs, Lanrkwhire, Scotland. Want to know more about the Starks. Bills grandfather Willam Harvie Stark came to America in 1890. Makes my husband a second generation born here. Carol Blevins. Will wait for your answer.

Hi there, I am also descended from Thomas and Margaret from Samuel Jack Stark (1804 - 1850) and currently have patchy info going back on Stark line to 1580, 5 generations back from Thomas and Margaret Lowden.

Happy to share what I have if you drop me a line
