Hi Anne,

I have been trying to help a woman who is about to get married to track down her birth father Brian Duckworth who appears to be in your family tree on Genes Reunited.

Here is the link.

perhaps you are in touch with other members of your extended family tree who may be able to give her some information - positive or negative regarding her search.

Regards,

Howard

I have details of Nancy Starkie who died on the 29 april 1853 Intestate which means she born abt 1771 and lived in the Bacup - Cowpe area of Lancashire. I think she was married to a Rothwell because the document mentions William Rothwell as one of her children. Any further links would be helpful.

Edmund Starkey of Preston

I can trace my family back to Edmund Starkey (c. 1700) who married Jennett/Jane Hacken (c. 1700) in 1727 in Preston, Lancashire, England. Edmund and Jennett had 5 known children - Catherine (b. 1730), Susannah (b. 1733), Nicholas (b. 1735), Jane (b.1738) and Mary (b. 1741).

Catherine Starkey m. Charles English (1751 - Preston, England). I believe Jane English m. Robert Barns (1761 - Preston, England)

If you share this family please contact me.

I think this may be a relation of mine. My father was born in Cockermouth and I remember he fondly referred to "LibbyAnne" - Elizabeth Anne and I think she was his grandmother. If this is the same lady she had several children, Margaret Peat Starkie, Annie Paterson Starkie (my grandmother), Elsie (who emigrated to New Zealand) Thomas and George known as ("Curly"). I think that's them all - forgive me if I have missed any out. I hope this is the same person you are researching and of some help.

Anne,
Literally stumbled onto your post concerning the Starkie surname. I haven't done any work on it in a very long time, and was not able to find anything of value to me when I did.

My grandfather was Joseph Stanley Starkie born on March 30, 1893 in Cockermouth, Cumberland, England. He had two brothers James and David and a sister Molly. James was serving as a private with the Northumberland Fusiliers in France when his name was posted as missing and presumed dead in the Battle of Somme, during World War 1.

Joseph Stanley Starkie married Elsie Hull. James Starkie married her sister Lena Hull. Joseph Stanley Starkie and Elsie Hull Starkie immigrated to Ohio. Their English passport was issued on Janurary 28, 1925. They had three children two of which survive (my father being one of them- he was born and lived to age four in Newcastle upon Tyne before he came to the US with his parents) James and Lena had one child (?) Mary who survives and resides in Nuneaton.

I wish I had more information (don't we all?)

Randy Starkie
Hamilton, Ohio
