Some of the information is incorrect (which explains some of the incorrect entries I have been seeing in family trees published by other ancestry members). I guess I will have to continue to attempt to track down a copy of this rev. ed. for myself. So far, it has been MUCH more difficult to find than the first edition!

Thanks again for your help!

William Wiley Staton, born 1807, Edgecombe country, N. C. was my Grandfather, Lafayette station's Great-Grand father. Lafayette's father was Andrew J. Statons son, who was the son of William Wiley. Info I have, he married Elizabeth Polly Wilkins 1828 and Mary Ann Bell 7 May 1835 in Edgecombe county. I have never been to their homeplace, but I am very familar with the location as we use to swim in a large pond behind the house when I was a youth of 12. There is currently a Golf course on part of the farm. Would be very interested in the Book on the Staton family. Would like to hear more from you. gunnyJ

Hi Lauralynn,

I've not researched prior to Mark Staton born c1585 Leicester died c1657 London England and wife Elizabeth Kirby. Some online researchers say he was born in Leicester, England around 1607 and and died 2 Feb 1656 in East London, St. Dunstan that sons John and Simoen were born around 1650 in Warwickshire, Stratford on Avon. John went to DE/PA 1690.

There was a younger Mark Staton in Great Dalby, Leicester (wife Mary) listed in the parish register. That might have been another son.

Gary

I too am interested in the Statons from UK. My research has led me in two different directions and I would love to find out the correct one. One is through Leichester to Maulger Staton who defended Belvoir Castle against William and the other is a line that came from Normany and assisted William in conquering England. There is family history that Statons went to Ireland as well. I'm having a hard time connecting the dots. Any help would be appreciated.
Martha -
I have been debating whether to invest in the Rev. edition of this book..I have the 1960 edition, and found that (for the most part) the good Rev. ignored the Statons who "went west"..

Could you take a quick look to see whether anything was included in this edition about Jonathan "Jack" Staton, b. about 1844, m. 1865 to Minerva Jane Wolf, children Albert, Eva and Clarence? If that part of the family line is included, it may be worthwhile to purchase this edition of the book.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Carole (Staton) Linderoth

Could you look in your 1982 edition for information on the following: Jonathan "Jack" Staton, married to Minerva Jane Wolf; sons Clarence and Albert and daughter Eva. I had always understood that there were only the two boys, Clarence and Albert (Clarence was my grandfather). I then discovered references to Eva, who evidently died quite young (about age 2 or 3). Then, recently, I read in Albert's obituary a reference to his TWO brother, Clarence and William, but have not been able to find anything else on William. William would most likely have been born somewhere around 1880.

I have the 1960 edition of the Staton book, but the good Rev. Staton apparently missed a number of Statons who "went West", Jonathan being one of them.

Any information you may be able to locate on William (OR his mother, Minerva)would be much appreciated.

Carole (Staton) Linderoth
Hi, I think the James Edward Staton you mention may be my great-grandfather. My father is James Edward Staton III (currently in Hardy, VA), and his parents were James Edward Staton, Jr. (died in 1981 or 1982)and Beullah Mae Troxell Staton (died 1998). My dad has one sister, Helen (currently in Roanoke, VA), who married Ralph Pritchard and has two children, Matthew and Brandy. I have a sister, Rebecca, and a brother, James Edward Staton IV (died 2010). Each of them has children. I am Jennifer (Staton) Becker and I have six kids.
Gary,

Hello! I just recently went through an old album from my family and found this photostat copy of "George Washington Staton" holding a "Harington Richardson gun". It says "10 WVA Volunteer Co. G" I have "Stattons" in my family background, but with a double "t" . . . my great-grandmother was a Statton and her name was Flora Bell Statton Barrett. Her father - my great-great grandfather - was Henry Christian Statton. I don't know why I'd have a copy of this man's photo if he didn't have some kind of connection to my family. Have you done much research on this line? Do any of these other names sound familiar? I only have a few days left on my "free" 14-day trial, so lol, the sooner you can respond the better it will be :-) I have attached the photo I found - hopefully it shows up.

STATON in Galion High School, Crawford Co., Ohio

Hi all,
STATON is one of the surnames in the 1928 Galion High School yearbook (Crawford County) that has been scanned and placed online at

http://www.genealogybuff.com/oh/crawford/galion/webbbs_confi...

There is a list of alumni included that spans 1871 through 1927. Every page has been scanned, including the advertising. Even the ads have a lot of history. There are many autographs in the book. The book has all proper names OCR'd so that you can do a surname search in the searchbox at the top of the page.
Hope this helps.
Bill

I continue to search for my gggrandfather, Lorenzo Dow Staton and his parents, siblings, etc. Lorenzo was supposedly born in KY, but lived in Scott Co., IN by 1850.
There were only two Staton heads of households in Scott Co, in 1840. One was George W. and the other was an elderly woman named Sarah Staton. who was living alone. Sarah sold 40 acres of land to Lorenzo about the time he married in 1844. Are there any descendents of a George W. who was born about 1815-1820, was married and had started a family in Scott Co?

My GGF's name was George Winston Staton and was born about 1866 in Monroe County,MS. According to family history, his father's name was also George W. Staton. I do not have a date of birth for him but the only George Staton I can find from Monroe County, MS. would have been born around 1802. I have the Staton Family history book from 1982 but not the 1960 edition. The last name did not change in spelling until around 1900. I hope this will help you as you check your information. I'm still checking all the other records I can.

Dear Kelly,
I have acquired the 1960 and 1982 edition of the Staton History Book which is fascinating reading. I am responding to your post because of the name George W. Staton. I am trying to out smart the system by trying to locate possible connections. For example my grandfather's first name was George Robert Staton but he went by Robert. My father's name was LeRoy Wilson Staton.
From what I have learned is names were passed on so names would not be lost. We are connecting simply through G.W.Staton.
Charles Gilbert Staton was born in 1855 in Brown County Ohio. Roots go all the way to the east coast and down south. Have you heard anything about any of the people I have mentioned?

I will look in my book for your GWS from MS. Thank you, Martha Staton
