Pam,
Your dad and I are first cousins. James Alonzo Stavely was my grandfather and he did indeed have a brother named Jesse who was a year older than him. James and Jesse's father was William M. Stavely, married to Louisa Barr. They appear on the 1860census. After that it gets rather complicated but I did search it down and figured it out. so contact me if you are interested. I would love to talk to your dad.

Pam,
The information I have is that when James was a small child, his father went to the civil war and never returned. Father's name was William M. His wife Louisa (aka Louisiana)remarried at age 32 to a boy 17 named Bishop. This was all taken from the census records. You can write me at patsymurray45@gmail.com

Stavely book look up and other stavelys from tennessee

Hello. I am cristy santiago, I would like it if you could do a look up for me. I was hoping that you could look up in the stavely book about the tennessee or north carolina stavelys and also about eli stavely?
my email address is cristin1970@yahoo.com

Just a note...for anyone searching eli stavely..he is listed in the 1820 Stewart County Census as Eli J. Staly. And his closest neighbor is Lucy (Milam) Pegram and The milam family. They came from Warren County North Carolina. Do you think our Stavelys could have come from there as well?
I did a search for a Staly, Steveley in North Carolina and there was a Martin Staly in Orange county North Carolina in 1810. And some Steveleys in Yancy county in 1860 which was formed from Burke and Buncombe counties. So I dont know if this is any help but it could be.
Carolyn,
I live in Montgomery County, Texas and was at the local library researching the 1900 census from Oklahoma since that is where my Stavely family were coming from in 1915. Below is what I found: William T. Stavely born 9/1882 in Pennsylvania age 37 at time of census, Clara E. Stavely born 4/1865 also in Pennsylvania, Son William J. born 4/1884 in Kansas, son John A. born 5/1886 in Kansas, Mary Alice born 5/1893 in Kansas, Clara M. born 8/1895 in Oklahoma and Margie M. born 3/1898 in Oklahoma. The census did not name the town of residence only that it was in Potawatomi County. I don't know if this is important but it said Volume 15, Sheet 1, Line 94. Hope this helps, and if you find any information on James Alonzo Stavely married to Mary Elizabeth Bishop, please let me know.
thanks
Patsy Murray

Carolyn,
I'm glad the information was useful. My family of Stavely's also came from Oklahoma. My mother was born in Yarnaby Oklahoma in 1912 and it was after this they moved to Texas in 1915. I will pass along other information I find while I'm searching old records. And thanks in advance for anything you find for me.

Love
Patsy

Pam, my name is Patsy. From reading your message it sounds like John Jefferson Stavely Jr. is the son of John Jefferson Stavely, parents - James Alonzo Stavely and Martha Elizabeth Bishop, who are my grandparents. My mother Mattie Stavely was the sister of John Jefferson Stavely, often referred to as Jeff, who was apparently killed as a young man. The rest of the family was Lillie, Lizzie, Lula, Ella, Bessie, Mattie, Charlie, Willie and and of course Jeff. They all lived in Arcadia Texas aka Sante Fe Texas. My mom, Mattie is dead, and has been since 1951, there were originally 15 children, with 9 surviving adulthood. I too am researching my moms Indian heritage. I have just begun the process. I know all of the children except of course Jeff who died long ago. I would love to talk to you about any and all of this. Girl, you have relatives you probably don't know about. Please feel free to write me. My email is above. Let me know if you are interested.

Looking for more information on my ancestors. Pheribe Stavely was born Jan. 12, 1819 and married William Largent who was born in 1816. I have a year of marriage as 1838 possibly in Stewart County, Tenn. (Maybe town of Dover.) Her parents were Elijah J. Stavely born 1790 in North Carolina and married Elizabeth Collier who was born in 1794. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.
Tess

Hi. Would that book be the annals of Lyndon Kansas, published by a person named Green in 1913? I have a connection to William Thomas Stavely through his wife, Clara. Her Sister Elizabeth Stewart Humphrey was my 2nd great grandmother, and was married to John Kelso Nesbitt. They also were in Kansas. I have the Annals of Lyndon Kansas book. If you have something different, I would be very interested in what you have recorded for W. T. Stavely and his father William.

Ken Webb, Edmonds, WA

I have gotten information that Kenneth Plante submitted on the Stavely's. Seems my great-grandfather (Enoch George Ruth) had Elizabeth Stavely 1765-1831 for his grandmother. I added Kenneth's information and mail my entire paperwork on the Ruth's to him. Do you know if he received it.

Thanks,
Wendy Cotter, Edgewater, MD.
