my great grand parents on my grandads side are George henry stebbings who is marrried to a irene edith stebbings(maiden name is fickling) who bore 2 children an ian stebbings and a ivor stebbings. ivor married a deanne jennifer stebbings(maiden name is andrew)and bore 3 kids.ian married and bore 1 kid.

Sydney Stebbings (Born in England, Died in Northwestern Ontario, Canada)

For many years, I have researched a young man named Sydney Stebbings. He was born in England and drowned accidentally in May 1926 while enroute to the gold mining area of Red Lake, Northwestern Ontario. His prospecting partner, Stanley Quinn, also drowned. If anyone would like to share information, it would be great to touch base.

I am looking for information any about Aylmore Stebbing and family before his arrival in Australia and any reason why he would have left his family in 1853. He had another seven children in Australia, (five of which died in infancy) with Sophia Rickards and died in 1874.

Elizabeth Stebbings was my wife's grandfathers sister. I am working on my wife's tree at the moment and only found the marriage between Elizabeth and Thomas Staniforth within the last week.

Hello

im currently researching Alfred stebbings my gt gt gt grandfather. He was born around 1875 in oxfordshire, UK. His parents are William Thomas stebbings born 1836 and Eleanor Humphreys born 1837.
They also had 2 other children that i have found so far. Thomas J C Stebbings bon 1858 and James E Stebbings born 1860.

Alfred Stebbings married Isabella Smith in stoke on trent, staffordshire and had a daughter Sarah Stebbings.

Apparently in the early 1900s Alfred Stebbings killed a man in the Albion pub in hanley, stoke on trent, staffordshire and quickly joined Buffalo Bills Circus who were touring the UK from the USA. He left with the circus heading for the states.....and this is where i become lost :S

If anyone has any other information of Alfreds life in the USA then i would very much appeciated the help.

Hi, I think we have a link here. Here is info from my tree:
Prudence Davies married Aylmore Stebbing in Dec 1846 in Clifton Gloucestershire. They had children Aylmore Wilson born 12/3/1848, Aylmore Edward born 12/3/1850 & Elenor Caroline born 12/1/1851 (all of whom died in infancy). If Prudence is your ancestor then they must have had another child.
Aylmore's brother William Wilson Stebbing was my father's father's father's father. Aylmore's parents were William Wilson Stebbing of Norfolk and Caroline (Wabe?) of Norfolk.
Prudence was born in about 1837 and had siblings Amelia, Elizabeth & Thomas. Let me know if this is your ancestor! I would be very happy to hear from you.

I am a Stebbings daughter and have had the luxury of having a half brother who spent about 50 years tracing our Stebbings Family line.

When I joined ancestry.com I was surprised to find the connections that ran back to Edward the 3rd and the Plantagenet family line.

For those of you who also have this connection, you may find reading the book "Katherine" by Anya Seton very interesting. We also have a yahoo group at: Katherine Swynford. It's free.

There is also a Katherine Swynford Society based in Lincoln, England and every year they hold a "study day". In 2008 it will be in May. Please visit the yahoo group for more info.

I have researched my stebbings family more since 2002
My line is from a john Stubbings who married a rachel hart
in lakenheath,suffolk.
They had three children ann,nathaniel,and john stubbings
in 1789.
John stubbings married a elizabeth unknown or mary name changes on the census.
They had quite a few children about 13
The children were born from 1815 till 1837 john's wife elizabeth was 50 when she had her last child.
I am from their son henry stubbings also known as stebbings
born 1821 eriswell nhe married martha hicks in 1841 as martha was pregnant they worked at the same place.
Their only child was born george edward stebbings in 1841
lakenheath,suffolk by 1850 both parents were dead.
George is not in the 1851 census
By 1861 george stebbings was married to susanna rutterford
who was born 1842 lakenheath
They had 7 children and i am from william stebbings born
1877 feltwell,norfolk.
William married a sarah a nicholl in 1896 ely
William and sarah had my grandfather james william eric stebbings on 31.3.1901 southery the other children were
violet born 1889,gilbert 1904,bernard.
James stebbings married florence hilda sollitt in 1932 st augustines church.
The surnames does change quite abit as you go up i think the next change could be stubbins and stebbins which is some
other surnames that out family has.
John and elizabeth have their surnames as stubbins on their death certificates

Nice to hear from you,yes I've been in touch with Rod,it seems it's a small world we found out we don't live far from each other only a matter of 40-50 miles apart but still in the same county.I've just had someone get in touch with me from Sarah Bartram's side (william's 2nd wife,her connection is Sarah's older brother.Have you seen my tree if you can't get to see it let me know and I'll invite you.

Carol. Our family name is Powley, and my husband is descended from one of the four Powley boys who came to Australia, sons of Peter Powley and grandsons of Eleanor/Ellen Powley before her marriage to William Stebbings. I have had correspondence with Rod Stebbings.
Just thought I would make contact with you, although I have nothing further on the Stebbings, and knew nothing about them until Rod filled me in with info. He saw my name in the Church Visitors' Book at Holme Hale.. Shirley in Australia

Yes, Eleanor is ours, and her son, Peter Powley is my husband's great grandfather. I have a photo of him with his wife, Charleotte (nee Fenn).
Rod found my name in the Holme Hale church visitors; book and got in touch. It was a very worthwhile correspondence.
Seeing you are also descended from Eleanor (Ellen), I guess you have the Powley family tree.

Rod Stebbings forum entries can be found under the name rabbitskin cap at NorfolkRoots. I've had some trouble getting in, but it may work okay today. I haven't been doing Stebbings lately, but I received some info you might need from "Rod" who is also in the Stebbings line. He seems to be the authority on that family. Generally, he says:
JAMES STEBBINGS (b.1766/d.1834, blacksmith) m ELIZABETH CORDY (b.1784) and had 9 children, the 3rd being William.
WILLIAM STEBBINGS (b.1812, Weasenham) m (21 Sep 1830, Holme Hale) ELLEN POWLEY (AKA Eleanor) (b.1803 Holme Hale) and had 9 children. Ellen already had 2 children by an unknown partner: William (b.1824) and Peter (b.1826, deaf). The first 3 children of William and Ellen had the middle name of Powley - Ann Powley Stebbings, Frances Powley Stebbings and John Powley Stebbings.
WILLIAM then married SARAH (b.c1841, Shipdham) and moved to Yorkshire where they had 6 children, the names you seem to know. William died in Malton Workhouse 11 Oct 1887.
ELLEN lived with her son John in 1861, was housekeeper to Henry Gates in 1871 and died 12 Oct 1885 at Grimston, attended by her daughter Ann [Powley Stebbings] Curry. It appears that "Ellen Stibbon" was a visitor in the Henry James family home in Hillington, Nfk in 1881. A "Harry Stibbon" family lived next-door. Rod probably has many more details. I'll try to locate his postings on the net and let you know where to find him.

Hi,Just thought I would e-mail you to see how your getting on,I have found which I believe is William and Sarah in the 1871 census with 4 children,Mary(8),Harriet(6),Alfred(2),James William(1)living in Wold Road,Norton but there is no mention of Robert who also was born in 1870,Alfred is my great granddad and was born in Wold Road 10th April 1868.I also believe I've now found William and Elleanor she refers to herself as Ellen and there is 3 children William Powley(26),James Stebbings(14),Robert Stebbings(10).Regards Carol

I was interested in your message to Carol. My husband is descended from Eleanor Powley's second son, Peter.
Have you been in touch with Rod? He found my name and address in the Holme Hale church Visitors'Book only recently (I was there last in 2002) and contacted me, much o my delight. He did not know that four of Peter's sons came to Australia, and I did not know all the Stebbing children of that William had left after they had nine children.

I am also investigating this part of OUR family. Our WILLIAM STEBBINGS married into our POWLEY line in Holme Hale, Norfolk. I heard that he split from that family and moved to Yorkshire where he had a new love (Sarah), along with six children. I tried to retrace my Norfolk Roots queries, but can't get back in. So I hope you may be able to help my confused mind on this family. I was told that William's first wife, Eleanor, had nine children. But I can find only 4 or 5. Secondly, I heard that he married young Sarah of Shipdham and had six children in Yorkshire. But I only find the same census you found - 1881, which lists only 3. Have you found anymore on him since your RootsWeb posting of 2005?

I am not sure if we are talking about the same Stebbings, mine married a Mary Isabella McCoid in September 1900, she was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Ann McCoid, nee Whitfield.

Mary Ann Whitfield was christened 22 June 1845 in Cumberland, parents John and Mary Beeby.

John Whitfield was my great great Grandfather.

Hi, I'm Carol my maiden name is stebbings and I'm doing my family tree but I don't seem to be able to trace much about my g/g/grandad he was from the norfolk area of york,I was wandering if there is any chance anyone might know of any record of any such person his name is william stebbings b.wassenham,norfolk1809,general labourer,he was married to sarah (think barthrum) b.shipdham,norfolk,1841 they had 3 sons alfred b.norton 1868,robert b.norton 1870 and george b.norton 1871 they appear in the 1881 census they have a lodger george bartram b.1833 shipdham,if anyone knows of anything I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thank you for posting your message on this site. My maiden name is Stebbing. My Father is Robert Lee Stebbing from Maryland. His Father Elwynne Lincoln Stebbing from Maryland, His father Leon Davis Stebbing from Pennsylvannia, then Joseph Francis Stebbing from Maryland, his father Joseph Stebbing from maryland, his father George Stebbing from Southhampton, Hampshire, England abt 1797 birth, his father Henry Stebbing abt 1770 from London, England, Thomas Stebbing christined abt 1738 from london, England, then William Stebbing abt 1713. My grandfather Elwynne did a lot of research on the Stebbing line including extensive research in England. We can't seem to go beyond William. Elwynne received information from a Richard Winfield Whyte about the Stebbings. His grandmother was Sarah P. Stebbing. Elwynne's grandfather Joseph F. Stebbing and Sarah P. were brother and sister. The informaiton I have says that this genealogy started in the town of Stebbing about 1087. I have a lot of information about Stebbing town. Is it possible that since you live somewhat close there, that maybe you could help me to locate William's father and so forth? I would be most grateful for any help you can give me. I eagerly await your reply. Thank You.

I am looking for information pertaining to Titanic disaster victim Sydney Frank Stebbings. He was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, London, UK in 1877, the son of James Stebbings. By the 1880s the family were living at 5 Prospect Place in Edmonton. A crew member on the Titanic, he lost his life.

Romona, The only additional informaton I have is that Henry Stebbing married Charlotte Ashley on 5 Nov 1795 St Marys Parrish, Portsea, Hamshire, England. There may have been an addditional child named James. My genealogical information is now found on my web site richard stebbing.com
