My great,great Grandmother and great,great,grandfather were Susanna Steffes and Jacob. I am under the impression that they had a son named Peter Steffes who was born in 1828 and immigrated around 1853. He married a Catherine Schulties and they had several children that resided in Minnesota and North Dakota. My grandfather John Grant, born 1875, son of Peter Steffes was in the civil for approx.year and then got a homestead in Whapeton ND in 1870. Ancestry.com has those documents. It would be thrilling to know if this connection with Peter Steffes and Susanna and Jacob is a parent and child match. Would love to hear more. Patricia Steffes Wiench

My great grandfather is Peter Steffes, dob 1828. I believe he arrived in the USA in Aug. 1847. He traveled with Johann 50, MC female age 52, Anton age 18 and Geo age 16. Peter was in the Civil War and listed next to Anton on the Civil war records. I am trying to connect this Peter with my family. Peter married Catherine Dedricks or Sholties in 1868 in Minnesota. They settled in North Dakota in the Richland area Do you think Anton had a brother named Peter with this little history I have.What was Anton's birth date? Thank you..

The Great Holy One took His daughter,
Trudell (Daowonock) Steffes, 89, of
Oneida, home on Wednesday, December 22, 1999. The former Trudi Metoxen
was born February 10, 1910 in Oneida and was the daughter of the late Joshua
and Lavinia (Elm) Metoxen. She married Edward A. Steffes, and he preceded
her in death. Trudi was a kind, accepting female warrior who touched the lives
and spirits of many people. She shared her strength, courage, and wisdom
selflessly. A woman proud of her Oneida heritage, Trudi welcomed all cultures
into her heart. She enjoyed the strengths and shared the hope of all peoples. A
highlight of her later years was being a foster grandmother at the Buffalo Room at
the Daycare Center in Oneida. Trudi is loved by and will be missed by her two
children, Doris O'Brien, and Edward Steffes and Gloria Bunker-Steffes;
grandchildren, Daniel, David, Bruce, Raymond, James, William, Victor, and Kim;
great-grandchildren, Shannon, Daniel, Jr., Jessica, Joshua, Justin, Shanna, Bryan,
Katrina, Zachary, Tommy, Michael,
and Meghan;
great-great-grandchildren,
Alex, Arianna
and Ryan; nieces and nephews, Donna Elm,
Deanna Hafeman
(Don), Doris Wiegert, Dale Elm (Karen),
the Summers family in Oneida,
and her
many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband,
two sisters,
Olive Elm, Mildred Summers,
one brother, Victor Metoxen.
Friends may call at
Ryan Funeral Home, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday. Oneida Indian Singing will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Prayer service will
be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the
funeral home with Bob Brown officiating. The ceremony to release Trudi's
cremains to the waters of Mother Earth will be held after the spring thaw.

Hi Laura, I'm a relative of yours. Nellie and Lambert are my G. grandfather and G. grandma on the Steffes side. Their children are Charles Lambert Jr. and Dorothy. Hello to you, I am the great grandchild (i think it's great) of charles steffes. he was married to his first wife nellie bertram, and then violet. Were from Michigan and moved to florida, where i remember them growing up.They had Charles Steffes (my grandpa) who was married to Doris Paxton. Obit: Doris (Steffes) Mader of Iowa (1928-2009)

Doris M. Mader, 80 of West Bend died Sunday July 12 at the West Bend Care Center. Services will be held Thursday, July 16, 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, West Bend with burial to follow in West Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4-8 PM Wednesday at the church where a CDA Rosary will be recited at 4 PM. Harris Funeral Home of West Bend is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.harrisfuneralservices.com.
Doris Steffes, the daughter of John and Ann (Halbur) Steffes was born December 2, 1928 in Roselle, Iowa where she was raised and received her education. On September 12, 1950 she was united in marriage with Frank Mader in Roselle. The couple lived in Roselle before locating to West Bend to farm in 1957. In 1974, after years of gardening on her own Doris's hobby turned into her business when she opened "Mader's Greenhouse". She operated this until her retirement in 1993 and is still operated by her daughter Millie. Frank and Doris moved to town in 1993 where Doris continued to work at the Grotto of the Redemption, the West Bend Care Center and the Village Pharmacy.
Survivors include her husband Frank, West Bend, her children: Dave (Joyce) Mader, Cedar Falls, IA, Blll (Michelle) Mader, Fort Dodge, IA, Mike Kohlhaas, son in law of West Bend, Marlene (Tom) Sievers, Storm Lake, IA, Millie (Pat) Madsen, West Bend, IA, Tom (Christy) Mader, West Bend, IA, Rick (Julie) Mader, Mount Vernon, Ill, Jane Kassel, Phoenix, AZ, Ron (Mary) Mader, Mallard, IA, Ann (Matt) Wittrock of Humboldt and Donna (Perry) Brown of Belmond, IA, 40 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, brothers and sisters: Sister Marcella Steffes, Roman and Arlene Steffes, LuVerne Steffes, Norma and Fred Gosch, Lorraine and Joe Vogl, Arlene and Melvin Meier, Robert and Radka Steffes, Marian Pickhinke, and Carol and Don Mader.
Doris was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, the CDA and Ladies Aid of the church as well as the American Legion Auxillary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Diane Kohlhaas in 2001.

Anton Steffes was my gggrandfather. My records show them having a daugher Susanna b. 1871 in Jamestown Twp., Ottawa County, MI.

yes, it most likely is. My family is from Joliet/ Elwood. Would margaret's mother be Margaretha and father Mathais? Or do you recognize those names? We still farm at the Steffes farm in Elwood IL.

My Maternal Great Grandmother was born Margaret Mary Steffes
in Joliet Illinois in 1866. She had several brothers.

I know there are a lot of Steffes in WI and MI. I'm sure we are related in some way. My grandfather is Robert Edward Steffes Married to Virginia Elanore Ryan. His parents were Jacob Frank Steffes and Marjorie Roderick. He later married Martha Timm. Our farm is in Elwood, IL- which is just south of Joliet, IL- and has been there since the 1800's. Does anyone have any good information or connection?

Is anyone out there a descendant of John Steffens, who was born in Hanover, Germany in about 1815-1818? He married Catharine, who was born in Bavaria in about 1826-1827. I haven't found any record of their marriage. The first record I have of them being in the U.S. is in 1845 when their daughter Anna was born in Wisconsin. In 1848 John bought 40 acres in Jefferson County, WI. The family is in the 1850 Census in the town of Jefferson, Jefferson County, WI. In 1857 John bought 2 parcels of land in Sauk County, WI. I can't find the family in the 1860 Census, but they are in the 1870 and 1880 censusus in Woodland Township, Sauk County, WI. I have found a John Steffens buried in Oaks Cemetery in Valton, Sauk County, WI, who died 25 June 1887 at 71 years of age. I believe this is "my" John Steffens. I have found a Catherine A. Steffens, who died in Calumet County on 23 March 1891, who may be "my" Catharine Steffens. If this family sounds familiar to you, I would love to hear from you!

I have been researching the Strickfaden family for some time. I have some information on Louisa and Anton but would like more. Do you by any chance have a picture of them. I have gathered pictures of most of the other brothers and sisters. Louisa had a large family and I am connected through 2 of her borthers, both William who was married to Anna Paffhousen and to John who was married to Elizabeth Slagel.. Would love to share info

ANTON and LOUISA STRICKFADEN STEFFES were my gggrandparents. Their daughter MARY STEFFES (JACOB) HOMRICH is my line. I believe Susan married SEBASTIAN HOMRICH. I believe Jacob and Sebastian were first cousins. Anton and Louisa had 5 daughters and 3 sons (one died in infancy). The children were born in Jamestown, Ottawa, MI (near the border of Allegan County, MI) They attended church in New Salem, Allegan and Dorr, Allegan. Anton and Louisa are buried at Visitation Cem. Dorr, Allegan. Anton served in Co. C 3rd MI Inf. in the Civil War. I don't have any other specific info on Susan.
