Hi Cousin Mary

So excited to hear from you. I have been helping my aunt Joyce Sullivan ( John Steidl & Elizabeth Portner's daughter) with the family tree. I have been looking into finding more info on great great grandfather John Steidl who died around 1902. There is a cemetery in St. Paul were a John Steidl is buried in 1902. I just need to go there and check it out.

My aunt told me John and Helen had a brother nickname Dutch
real name maybe Alyois. Do you know anything about him?
Census records also show an Albert, but I don't have any other info.

I have a lot of info on the other children of Andrew and Barbara Froetschel.

My aunt said that Helen and a few other relatives came to visit back in the 50's. She has some pictures.

I would love to keep in touch. My aunt was thrilled when I told her I had heard from you.

Sue Salmon Minnesota

Hi cousin Sue,

I am replying with my new login name of LadyinRed360.

Your grandfather, John Steidl, had a sister Helen who was 4 years older than he. She is my grandmother and my Dad's mother. My dad, John, is named after his grandfather.

I asked Grandma Helen about her family tree a few years before she died in 1978. She said her father (our great grandfather), John Steidl, was born in Tirol (or Tyrol?) Austria in 1873 and died in 1917 in St. Paul, MN. Her mother, Mary Froetschel, was born about 1875, and her father's name was Andrew and her mother's name was Barbara.

I don't know much more about them. Please contact me if you have more info or if you just want to keep in touch with a distant cousin!

Mary Fouts
Washington state

I cannot connect Mathias Steidle with any other Steidles in Cincinnati. However, there were others living at that time living there. If I had any information from Germany, it would help, but that's nearly impossible. I do know that Mathias married a girl named Kunigunde Zollner. Her father, Freiderich, arrived with her, a sister Caroline and brothers Simon and Jacob. Simon, Jacob and Freiderich are buried in a small cemetary off Neeb road in Cincinnati. Mathias and Kunigunde's children were William, Christian and Carrie.

Simon was my great grandfather, we all live around Alexandria and some surrounding small towns in the north west part of the county. He is buried in grave yard at the Catholic Church in Bell River just outside of Alexandria. Most of us who live in the area are at the most 4th or 5th cousins and still know each other. Once you stop by you will understand why they moved there, it is one of the nicest places in the country. My grandfather was mark one of his sons. feel free to reply and I will get a picture of his grave for you when I am home next.

Michael's brother Martin Steidl Sr. married another of her cousins, Theresa Wurzer (1C2R). If your son is a descendent of John and Anna, he's probably one of her "long lost" cousins. I've collected quite a bit of data on the Steidl and Wurzer families, and if your still interested, please send me a note at eawegner@fedex.com.
Thanks, Allen and Janie

William married Ella Louise Kattenhorn whose parents were John H. and Aretha Kattenhorn from Hanover Germany. They had 2 sons, my granfather Albert E Steidle1897-1973 and Walter Steidle b 1891.
Hi Mary,
We probably are related, but I wished I knew how. I have conflicting info as to where Simon was really born-Bavaria or Austria. The one is Austria gives the village as Tutzing and the county seat as Harnberg or Starnberg in the Tyrol region. Your John would be of the next generation most likely. My Simon could have been a brother of John's father. Since families use names over and over-Simon had a son named John and my grandfather had a daughter named Agnes. Are you in Minnesota? Please email me at Jamared@aol.com Would like to hear more from you. Jane Nordby

I see some 87 Steidl records there. (My grandfather's sister married a Steidl. They were from Bikacs, Austria-Hungary.)

Jane

www.ellisislandrecords.org

I really haden't expected this to be so difficult, I have not had this much trouble finding anyone in all my other research! The Steidl's seam to be very difficult to find! I am the grandaughter of Louis Francis ( Frank ) Steidl, I'm pretty sure his father's name was Francis ( Frank ) Steidl and his mother was Marie Unger; Louis was born Jan. 16th, 1898 in Appleton, Wisconsin, his father was born Aug. 26th, 1866 in Austria, and his mother was born Dec. 24th, 1868 also in Austria, Marie died young, June 18th, 1915 in Stevensville, Wisconsin; Louis was married to Dorothea Christine ( Geske ) Steidl; ANY info that can break through this fog would be great to know.......Look forward to hearing even just a little that might help..........Thanks in advance!

John Steidl

John Steidl is my dad's maternal grandfather. John was born in 1873 in Tyrol, Austria. He married Mary (Maria?) Froetschel (b. 1877) of Bohemia. I don't know when they came to USA, but their daughter, Helen Agnes Steidl, (my dad's mother) was born 28 Nov 1899 in St Paul, MN. John and Mary also had two sons; Louis and John Jr. John Steidl Sr died in 1917, somewhere in Minn. I don't know anymore about him, but Simon Steidl likely was a relative. I hope this helps!
