Margery,
Your Jean Stephani, married to Christian Oberheide, is in the Stephani line I am researching for my sister and her husband, E. J. Stephani. I have a lot of family information I can share if you email me directly. In part: Jean M. Stephani, born Feb 1919 in Illinois had two brothers, Edward Joseph, born Jan. 21, 1910 in California and John Franklin "Jack" born July 10, 1916 in IL. Their parents were Edward Ludwig Stephani and Cecilia Marguerite Ryan. Edward, was born Jan 1888 in IL (no death information). Cecilia was born Sept. 11, 1889 in Chicago, IL and died Feb 4, 1941. They were married Dec. 19, 1908 in Cook County, IL. Cecilia's parents were John Woodard Ryan (born 1852 in Maine) and Ellen Denereaux (born 1857 in Michigan). Edward's parents were Edward Herman Stephani (born 1848 in Switzerland) and Josephine Fischer (born 1848 in Missouri.) Edward's parents were Carl Frierich "Ludwig" Stephani, born 1805 in Wertheim, Germany, and Elise Johanna Antoinette Hoppe, born abt. 1805 in Bremen, Germany. In 1849, Ludwig and Elise boarded the ship "Cromwell" in Le Harve, under Captain Barkes of Boston. There was an outbreak of cholera aboard ship, and both Ludwig and Elise died; October 11, 1849. They were buried at sea four days outside of New Orleans, Lousisana. Their son, Edward, was taken and raised by a German family from the ship, the Tiedemann's (Friedrich Otto Tiedemann and his wife, Wilhelmina Gertrude Amalia Kayser). I have names of the direct Stephani line back to Johann Heinrich Stephani, born about 1650 in Germany, as well as a family history written by one of my brother-in-law's relatives that I would be happy to share.
MaryAnn
Nicholsonma@tx.rr.com

my husband is William Stephani III. His great grandfather or grandfather (so we were told) came from Germany with one or two brothers and a sister and their parents died on the way. One brother went to Illinois and we don't know what happened to the rest of the family. (we think they stayed with a family in New Jersey) William I settled in the Philadelphia area.

My great great grandmother is Margaretha Stephani. She was born in Prussia and came to the US in 1855. It said on the ship record that she came to visit her sister. I don't know who that is. She married a Carl Heinrich in 1857 and then a Philipp Corell in 1864.

I do know that there was a Charles Stephani living in Missouri in 1850. He was from Prussia as well. I am not sure if he is related.

If anyone has any information, I would appreciate it.

I am looking for any information about the Stephani family in Illinois. It is believed that the family originally migrated from Switzerland. Jean Stephani, born in 1919, married Christian Oberheide, born in 1919, in the Chicago area.

I would appreciate any information. I can be reached at glanzy1@aol.com. Thank you.

Margery Oberheide

Gena
I think we might be related? Where are you located? I was born in Stillwell, Indiana, but now live in Aiken SC. Maybe I can add a little infomation to the Family tree. My Grandfather was John Albert Stephani and Grandmother Auguste Trebes. John came to America from Germany along with his 2 brothers. I was always told one brother stayed in the NY area; John came on to IL and the third went up to WI.
John and Auguste met and married in IL. My father (2nd oldest son)his name was Oscar Albert Stephani, was born in IL. They later moved to Union Mills, LaPorte County, Indiana, where they owned a cattle farm. Several other children were born (I think about 8-9). Grandpa and Grandma died long before I was born. I have other information, which I can find and forward later.
Stephani Family in IL

Just happened to find your message board tonight. I have been wanting to search the Stephani ancestry, but never really got started. I will let you know what little information I have. From what I have been told my grandfather John Stephani (I think his middle name was Albert?) along with two brothers came to America in the late 1800's from Germany. One brother settled in NY state, my Grandfather settled in IL and the other brother went north to WI. My Grandfather married and later moved to Union Township in northern Indiana (LaPorte County). He was a farmer and owned a large cattle ranch which remained in the family until sometime in the 40's. my father's name was Oscar Albert Stephani, the second son was born in Cyble, IL on 15 Nov. 1893. There was a large family. I think about 9 children in all (including 2 or 3 sets of twins). All boys except for one girl. My Aunt tried to trace the family history before her death, but did not have much luck (this was before computers. She died in the 70's. I must say this was not a very close family and years were spent fighting over the family estate and brothers not speaking to each other. My father never would talk about his boyhood. As a result I never really knew the family history. I do know that my father and his brother looked very much alike. They were all about 5'4" and a little on the heavy side. From his picture, I don't think my Grandfather was a very large man. I do have pictures of the family, taken when the children were small and a list of the childrens names and birthdates, which my aunt sent me before her death.

If any of this fits with your family, I would be very grateful for any information you could provide me. I would be happy to send you copies of the photos if you would like to send me your address. I am retired and currently live in Clearwater FL.

Respectfully,
Marion S. McIntyre
