Alfred and Hannah Stewart's daughter - Frances Stewart married Silas Crawford in Clarke County, Georgia -- I am related through there son Elijah Crawford (born in GA in 1832) he married Sallie Crofford originally from South Carolina her parents were (Andrew and Mary Crofford - they moved from SC in about/around 1850 and resided in Morton, Scott County Mississippi.) Elijah and Sallie were married during the civil war when he was on leave in Mississippi. Elijah and his father were both shoemakers during the wars. Silas in 1812 I believe they had him listed as a boot and bow maker. Elijah had joined the 12th infantry Claiborne Rangers from Homer, LA during the Civil War and was listed as making boots for his infantry. I do not know much about the Stewart line but would be interested in information!

Laulie
laulie.pasquier@gmail.com

Looking for Andrew (Audy) Stewart married Marinda Vanover Tomblin

Hello!
Marinda (Ruida) Vanover Tomblin (married Jas Tomblin 04 JULY 1884 widowed had two children: John Earnest and Alice Tomblin Boyd County, KY) (she was born May 1864 Carter, KY) married Andrew (Andy/Audy) Stewart in Lawrence County, KY 06 JULY 1892, is my GGrandmother. She is the daughter of William Vanover and Elizabeth Lucas. I have Marinda well documented down to her death in 1913 as Marinda Estep widow of William. SHE IS NOT HENRY STEWART’S DAUGHTER AS MOST ANCESTRY.COM TREES SHOW.

She and Andrew had three children born in Boyd County: Pearl 1893 married David Falin, James 1895 married Anna Ennis, and my Grandfather Clifford 1898, who married Dollie Carrow. Their son John W. Stewart is my father. Marinda lists herself a widow in the 1900 Census, in Kanawha County, WV. But as yet, no death record found for an Andrew Stewart between the conception/birth of his last son in 1898, and the June 1900 Census where Marinda lists herself a widow and family head.

I’m looking for any info on this line but, especially the identity of the parents of Andrew Stewart. He may have been a coal miner as later, his sons were. I checked and did not find him a miner casualty. He went by the nickname of Audy or Andy, as it is on much of his children’s records (marriage, death certificates etc.)

Any help appreciated.
Janet Stewart

Frederick Orval Stewart lived in or near Kingston, Ontario in 1989

I am trying to trace the family of Frederick Orval Stewart and his wife, Mary Theresa Langevin. She passed away in Kingston in 1989 however I have found no further information about Fred. They had one natural born daughter, Joan (possibly Turnbull)and two adopted daughters Cheryl & Carol. Mary Theresa also had a son, prior to her marriage to Fred, his name was Joseph Henry Langevin. ANY information would be appreciated as i try to put the pieces together of this line! Thank you.

Ha ha. Who knows. SO Sorry. Keeping up is hard to do. I just can't find this Andrew Stewart who is my husband's GGrandfather. We have the entire materal line through the Vanovers but are back to only 1897 with the birth of Grandfather Clifford Stewart. His dad was Andrew Stewart but we have no clue as to his parents, or even his birth date. KY did not keep birth records except from about 1851 when it was required, and then for only about ten years or so and they just dropped off. So getting records prior to 1911 is difficult. Any suggestions?
Thanks for posting.

Hi,

My father's family settled in Stueben County, Ny. I have just begun my research on my dad's family. What I know so far is that my great grandfather was Earl Stewart, he married Josephine White. They had I believe 4 sons William, Earl, Edgar, and Charles. Charles would be my grandfather, and he married Clara Wheeler. They had 5 sons, Clayton, Kenneth, Carlton, Karlyle(Carlyle)(my dad), and Russell, who was called Buster.
If any of this sounds familiar, or is related to your research, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks so much for any and all help.

Phyllis (Stewart) Lester

They ALL settled in Kanawha County. Since I first posted here, I have lots of documentation on the line. Dollie Carrow is my husband's Grandmother.
Indiana Stewart's - Charles Stewart / James Stewart

My name is Matt Stewart and I've been waiting for my 67 Marker DNA results to come back before posting this. I am kit number 220399 on Family Tree DNA. My Haplogroup is R1b1a2a1a1b4b or R-M222…which I’ve learned is not very common for Stewart’s apparently. I only match two other Stewart’s at 67 markers at this time.

My last known relative with 100% certainty is Charles Stewart born around 1810 in Virginia or Kentucky. One record shows that he was born in Ohio but I now think this is pretty unlikely. He was married to Eleanor “Nellie” Ellingsworth born 1810 in Kentucky. They both ended up in Greene County, Indiana. It appears that Charles died or was at least out of the picture before 1850. He does not show up in any census records after 1840 and Nellie remarried to a David Stuckey and moved to Smith, IN at the age of 35. We did find a death certificate for a Charles Stewart who died in Greene County, IN in 1882 at the age of 66 but we haven’t been able to prove that this is the same Charles Stewart…although it is likely that it might be. It has been suggested that he might have left his wife and children to move to California during the Gold Rush which is possible, but that is all just speculation at this point.

Thanks to DNA I was connected to two other Stewart’s whose last known relative is James Stewart born Feb 27, 1772 in Virginia. He married Sarah “Sally” Fleshman born in 1778 in Virginia. Both died in Greene County, IN. We now believe that James was Charles’ uncle, and that Charles’ father and James were probably brothers. It also appears that Charles had an older brother named Alexander born around 1797 and possibly another brother named William. Our Stewart’s all seem to have migrated from Virginia to Kentucky to Indiana. My great great grandfather, John Riley Stewart, was born in Worthington, Indiana in 1847 and died there in 1928. Nothing is known about his father Charles’ parents, but it does appear that he followed an old common naming scheme when naming his children because we know their names and also the names of his wife Eleanor’s parents. If this is true his father’s name would likely be John and his mother’s name would be Maria, or a variation of Maria like Mary, or Polly. His children’s names were John, Bartholomew, Maria, Nancy, Solomon, and David. Another clue that we recently found was that a Robert Stewart signed and paid for Alexander’s marriage bond when he was married in Casey County, Kentucky in 1818…but we haven’t been able to find out anything about him. Nothing is known about James’ parents either and several people have been researching him for over 70 years.

My family has always known that we were Irish and Scottish, but that is all they know. DNA has linked us to “Niall of the Nine Hostages” but I don’t know much about this yet. I would love to know where in Ireland or Scotland we came from exactly, but there just aren’t very many records available. The records that are available are a real mess and several contradict each other. The only other possible clue we have is that we match several Dawdy’s, Daugherty’s, and Doherty’s. One of these people I match at 67 markers with only 3 markers off. Some of these people list their last known relative as Howell Dawdy born in 1746. It is believed that he was born in Ireland and that he was an Irish indentured servant when he came to the US. Most of the DNA experts I’ve talked to about this seem to think there is a connection with the O'Doherty's, but that our common ancestor might have been back in the 1600’s or earlier.

If anyone has any information that might help me it would be GREATLY appreciated. It appears that all paper trails are dead ends at this point. I’m really hoping that some unknown relative in Ireland or Scotland will someday take a DNA test and help us learn more about this.

Thank you!

Matt Stewart
Stewart194@hotmail.com
I have info on John Oliver "Jack" Steuart. He was my mother's uncle. He was born 9-13-1875 and died 2-22-1952. Is buried in Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead, IA. Was married to Grace M. Pomeroy 7-3-1901 and they had 1 daughter. The only info I have on her is "Mrs.Guy Perkins" and I think was living in Missouri at the time of her father's passing. There is a stone for Guy Perkins near John's stone. Have lots of info on other members of the family. Please contact me.
