Re: Emma Stilton - Kansas

I found a Federal Census which showed that Emma Stilton was actually born in Wisconsin somewhere. She's buried at Maxville Cemetary in Kansas. It's in a county on the north-central border of Kansas and (Nebraska?)

William Beever appeared in the 1900 Cherokee Territory Census with his son Lewis Edwin (mother Emma Stilton dec'd), a wife Mary and 2 stepchildren born to separate fathers--Clola Huggins and Omer/Omar? Nightingale (he's older).

William Beever of New York was a descendant of John Beever et. al. who was shipped to the States from England...no Indian heritage there. John was imprisoned for "breaking and entering" aka robbery. Twice. Didn't serve entire 7 yr. sentence before English sent him to America.

All we know of Emma Stilton is that she died young, sometime after Lewis Edwin Beever's birth.

Haven't found a marriage record for William Beever/Beaver to Mary of Cherokee Territory in 1900. Assume she is of Native American heritage, but not blood-related to William or his son Lewis.

Has anyone found further information on these individuals?

Hi Collen,
Give me your e-mail address in the next reply and I'll try sending to you. Maybe that will work. When you e-mail me be sure and get the underscore _ between the sj and lambert. I have a little information on Lewis. I corresponded with Peggy Stilton some time ago but lost touch with her. I am going to Salt Lake City to the genealogy library there in December in hopes to find the missing link to this family. It's been real frustrating. write back when you can and maybe if we can link up we can get the info back and forth.
sue e-mail: sj_lambert@hotmail.com
