Steve Stimac was my grandfather. Son of Bartol and Theresa. He was married to Caroline Sopina from Ashland, WI. Steve is buried in our cemetery here in Washburn, Wi. I'm trying to find information on Bartol and Teresa's siblings and parents.
darrelyn57@hotmail.com

We probably do not talk about the same person, but I've checked my family tree and found Ana Stimac born in 1884. Only she was married to Tone Osmak and died in 1933.

Hi, my brother, Thomas Kucinick, was communicating with you through ancestry.co.uk in January 2005. A month later, Tom passed away. I'm trying to complete what he and I started together. We were trying to trace our ancestry back then, but of course when he passed away our communication ended. My husband has family in Italy and I'm hoping my grandfather in Croatia. I'm trying to see if there are any relatives of ours in Croatia b/c we plant to go there in the next year or so to visit. I'd love to find our if I have some cousins there. Eva Stimac Raukar was our Great-grandmother's name.
Any help with the Kucinick or Raukar name would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mickey Kucinick Muin

Was your Raymond and orphan? If find a Raymond STIMAC living at Holy Family Orphanage at Marguette MI in 1930. He is 9 years old. On the line above him is Dorothy STIMAC age 7. Is this your family?

STIMAC is said as shteemats... and comes from a German word for 'tuner" as in one who tunes watches.

I find a WW I Draft Registration for Joseph STIMAC in Alger County MI listing next of kin as Andrew STIMAC living at Shingleton MI I see not date for when he registered but these were done 1917-1918

Name: Joseph Stemac
County: Alger
State: Michigan
Birth Date: 15 Oct 1898

and then another!

Name: Joseph Stimac
County: Alger
State: Michigan
Birthplace: Croatia;Austria
Birth Date: 15 May 1897
Next of kin John STIMAC at Dalmazia which is Dalmatia Croatia which is a region.

And yet another! But this time he lists his next of kin as his wife Mary living in Europe

Name: Joseph Stimach
County: Alger - Shingleton
State: Michigan
Birth Date: 25 Feb 1884
Occupation Woodsman

It would not be a surprise that they immigrated seperately... this was the case in about 99% of families

Do you have more info about Joseph L. (Croatians do not have middle names!) and Antonia? How about date of birth? Date of death? where in Croatia they are from? etc, etc... I did find several manifests for women named Antonija or Tonica STIMAC and found a few going to Houghton MI all came from Crni Lug (translates to Black Forest)

Robert Jerin
Croatian Heritage Museum
Cleveland Ohio

My great grandparents were Vecenca Stimac of Crnilug, Croatia married to Evan Maras of Sunger, Croatia. I believe they immigrated to the USA through Ellis Island, where the name was changed to Morris.

They had 8 children: Annie, Frank, John, Mary, Nina, Veronica, William, and Pete (my grandfather, dob 15 Feb, 1894). I don't know who was born in Croatia and who in USA, or whether any retain the family name of Maras.

Grandpa Pete married Augusta Blazina (dob 7 Oct, 1898). Grandma Gusta's parents were Anton Blazina, of Vrata, Croatia (1864-1947), and Matejka Klobuchar of Vrata (1865-1936).

Grandpa Pete also worked in the coal mines as a young man. The family eventually settled in Iowa (Appanoose Co.)

If anyone has any of these names in their family tree I would appreciate any further information. The entirety of my knowledge is in this post.

Hello. My maternal Grandfather, Leo (b. 1911, d. 1993, both in Springfield, IL) was the son of Steven MIHELCIC (changed to MIHELSIC in Leo's generation) and Mary MALNAR. Steven was from Lokve (then Austric, now Croatia). My Mary MALNAR was born Oct. 22, 1884 (Crni Lug or Mrzla Vodice, Croatia - then Austria), and died Oct. 15, 1969 (Springfield, IL).

I was last in Lokve, Mrzla Vodice and Crni Lug, Croatia (formerly Yugoslavia, formerly formerly Austro-Hungarian Empire) in 2003, and saw MANY graves in the town cemetaries with headstone surnames MALNAR, PINTAR and STIMAC. There were still Croatian families with these surnames in Springfield, IL, when I began family history research there in the early 1980s. Many of the older folks have died in the interim decades.

I would suggest folks with these surnames explore the Mormom Family History microfiche archives for these three Croatian villages.

I would be happy to hear of additional information anyone may have regarding the MALNAR or MIHELCIC/MIHELSIC names referenced above. Hvala! Mary

Hi,
My maiden name is also Wicksey. I know little about my family and am wanting to find out more. We are in Australia, mostly Western Australia, although I am now in Queensland. My Father was Raymond John Wicksey (10/01/1951-20/5/2001) and his father was John Wicksey. He was married to Jean Wicksey (nee Harrison). They have five children, Raymond, Cheryl, Peter, Kathleen, and Grace. Cheryl and Kathleen are the only ones still alive. Apparently my grandfather's (John) family was from England. Let me know if you know any more about your family or mine (which may be yours and mine!)
Sarah

My name is Susan Gaspard Campbell and I am first cousin to Vicki Derry's mother. Vicki wanted me to post that her e-mail address has changed to vikkadee@msn.com. We are doing Stimac research in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan. Another cousin, Ed Corcoran, is working on our line of the family history. The Stimac brothers, William (1873-1956), Philip (1878 - 1953), Anton (1881-1942) and Blas (1886-1972?) came from Lokve, Croatia, and first settled in the Calumet area of the UP. Vicki and I are descended from Philip Stimac. Ed Corcoran is descended from William Stimac. We would love to hear from anyone related to this Stimac branch of the family.

Lots of Stimac Information

I received a wonderful packet from the archives of Rijeka today but it opens up a lot of questions. I feel that I must start my research all over. I'm sending the information I can glean from it to you all to look over and mull it over. After you've had a chance to review it please let me know your thoughts. I also received a quite lengthy letter (written in Croatian I assume) that I've been trying to translate with Inter-Tram and my two different Croatian dictionaries and not having much luck. Do any of you have any ideas? I plan to see if there is someone in this area I can get to do some translation. In the letter I can see the name Forempoher and Vlahovic although these names are not on the outline they sent me. Since I can't read the letter I have no idea what they are telling me about these people. Well, here's the outline and hope it gives someone some good ideas. My grandfather Frank (Franciscus de Paula married Josipa). According to the archives his father was Andreas which is not the information I had. I'll study this more myself and let's all get together and see what we can figure out. Hopefully this will give some of you leads in your family line. Phyllis

Josephus (Josip) Stimac married Maria (D 02/28/1864)
Their son Andreas (Andre, Andrija) Stimac
married first Maria Malnar (B1840, D 11/03/1878)
Their children:
Maria (B 10/13/1862, D1955 Crnilug)
Vincentius (B 01/21/1866, D 1946
Crnilug)
Josephus (B 03/01/1868, D05/10/1869
of hydrocephalus)
Josephus (B 03/16/1870, D11/24/1872
of debilitas)
Franciscus de Paula (B 03/14/1872)
Amalia (B 02/04/1876, D 05/22/1894
TBC)
Andreas married second on July 7, 1879 to
Marija Stimac (B 1856)
Their children:
Mijo (B 09/16/1880)
married 05/16/1903 to Josipa Pintar
Josip (B 07/07/1822)
Juraj (B 04/07/1884)
Matija (B 02/26/1886, D 08/11/1888
of measles)
Jakov (B 1893, D 1893)

Sorry to be so slow in replying. I've been working on a family reunion on the other side of my family and haven't had a free minute to work on this line. I have 18 George Stimacs in my file. Do you have any definite dates that would lead me to the correct one? I don't show any married to a Malnar although some are married to "unknown" so perhaps with a date we can put that information together. I'll be glad to share whatever I have.

I also have 2 Josip (Josephus) Malnar's but their wive's names were not Caroline Jakovac. Perhaps this could be a second wife or not related at all. Do you have any dates on the Malnar's. I have 7 Maria Malnar's so I need a date to see if anything coincides.

Tatjana asked where I got the records. Unfortunately I am not certain where they finally came from. This was in my earlier days of research I didn't do a very good job of documenting that sort of thing (which I do now). I think I wrote to the central archives which is: Arhiv Hrvatske, Marulicev trg 21, 41000 Zagreb. I believe I was told that they have limited resources and they didn't do a lot of research. Someone copied a bunch of pages for me which is how I ended up with all this other information on other families. They charged me a fee per page but were unable to do any more "research" for me. I will be happy to share any of the info I have if any of the names correspond to anyone's family. As you noted some of the spellings were incorrect. The old handwriting is very difficult to read.

Hopefully I'll get back to the Stimac research soon. I'm finishing up the other family line right now and will try to get back on the Stimacs as soon as possible. E-mail any dates that any of you have and perhaps I can get that information sent to you. An exact date isn't necessarily important. I just need to know the generation you are talking about and that might help.

I need help with my Stimacs. My Grandmother was Jennie Stimac, still living and her father was Frank Stimac b.? Yugoslavia, d. approx 1951 in Gallup, NM and her mother was Mary Abromovich b. 3/25/1891 Yugoslavia and d. 1978 in Winslow, AZ. Frank Stimac had a first wife, Possibly Josephine also born in Yugoslavia I hear. They had 4 children: Frank, jr., Rose, Josephine (Jessie), and Mary. His first wife died I believe before 1920 in Denver Colorado. My Grandmother does not have much information on the family. She said growing up on the farm in New Mexico that they just didn't talk about it. I was going through some of my grandma's old photos and found a picture of a gentleman and on the back was John Pintar. I asked her who it was and she doesn't know. Of course I have the albums and am 1 1/2 hours from her.
Can you help me with who John Pintar is and where he might fit in?
Thank you for your help.
Annette
The rumor that he mined coal in Illinois is incorrect. Instead, he was a brakeman in the iron ore mines in Virginia (city), Saint Louis, Minnesota.

See further down for more complete information.

My son-in-law's father is Emil Michael Stimac, now living in Davenport, Iowa. He married Delores June Rideout and they raised at least three children.

Emil's father, Michael or Mike Stimac came to America in 1906 and his wife; Rose, came in 1913, both from Croatia. He worked as a brakeman in the iron mines around Virginia (city), Saint Louis County, Minnesota.

The 1930 Census has Michael (39)[abt.1891], Rose (32)[abt.1898], Catherine (14)[abt.1916], Emil (12/13)[abt.1918/17] and Francis (11)[abt.1919].

That's about all that we have learned. While we suspect the above to be accurate, we welcome challenges and further information.

Your 21 January 2001 posting of names has Emil Stimac, a 1-year old boy, tied to Franjo Josipa.

My son-in-law's father is Emil Stimac.

His father is Michael Stimac, from Croatia, Austria or Yugoslavia. He is rumored to have been a coal miner in Croatia and then in southern Illinois.

Could you look at the record for Emil? Thanks in advance.

Petar (in Croatian language) and Peter are the same first names so they could not be brothers.
I think Petar was brother to Peter Raukar. I have a picture of the two brothers. Peter's wife Eva Stimac. They lived in Taylor Springs, Il.

Can you communicate via regular Email TKucinick@charter.net
