William John Stoneham

Dear Roland
Not sure if you are still on bulletin board. I have a William John Stoneham, son of Rachel Keel as an ancestor in law. He married Jessie Walsh and came to Australia in 1895 with Jessie's children. Jessie died here, some children stayed and others went back and lived with William's mother. It is possible William and Jessie also had a child of their own. I can tell you more about Stoneham, but not what happened to him after Jessie died. What sort of information do you have ?
Cheers
Ruth

Stoneham Family - Enniscorthy, Co Wexford - Dublin/Dalkey - US (NY/NJ)

I am looking for anyone else researching Stonehams in these areas (Enniscorthy, Dublin, Dalkey, New York) hoping to share information. I have found a great deal on the Stonehams in Dublin from the mid 1800's to early 1900's, and some on my own branch of the family after arrival in NY.

The earliest ancestor I have located is John Stoneham b. abt 1807 ? m. Marianne ? d. Dalkey, Dublin, Ireland 31 December 1863. I know he also lived in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, because my 2nd great-grandfather, his son Laurence John, was born there. Other children include, but are not limited to Catherine, Francis and Charlotte.

I see lots of birth records for Stonehams in Enniscorthy, but there are no images attached, parents names, etc to see where they fit in on my tree. I have also found earlier events for Stonehams in Dublin (1700s) and wonder if they are connected, but I have a gap that I haven't been able to fill yet.

I have not been on here in a while. Just getting back to genealogy. I am trying to find where my Stoneham ancestors came from before they came to Montgomery County, Tennessee. I don't know much about them. James was married to Sara Ida Milan or Milam for a while. They divorced and she married many times afterwards. They had some sons and one of those sons was William Calvin or Calvin William Stoneham who shortened his name to Stone. He married my grandmother Eula May Shaw in 1921 and they had my Dad Wilbert Stone in 1936. They lived in northeast Arkansas. My Dad always told me we were German and our name was shortened from Stoneaum. Anything would help and you can email me at roseladyone@yahoo.com
Hello Jeanette,
Re, The Stoneham Family.
Did any of your family members come to Australia.?
There are quite a lot in N.S.W. and Victoria.
My husband comes from a Lieut. John Stoneham, who came to Australia about 1827. He married a convict girl in Tasmania, Mary Smith, they then went to Victoria to live. They had 10 children, Mary died then John re married and had another 10 children.
Hope you can tie that in with your family.
John was born in 1806, at St.George, London, his father was Moses Stoneham, his mother was Margaret, nee Edwards.
Jan

Charlotte Edalji of Shropshire and Staffordshire was born Charlotte Stoneham. My book 'Outrage: The Edalji Five and the Shadow of Sherlock Holmes (Vanguard Press) has a lot of material on her Stoneham family ancestors over a period of 150 years. I was helped by Liz Thompson of New Zealand, who has done a lot of research on this branch of the Stoneham family, but her e-mail address does not work any more. Is anyone in contact with her?

Stonehams in Ireland

Hello,

I posted on this board once when I was very new to genealogy and didn't know much, and didn't have any results. I'm hoping I'll have some now that I know more!

I am looking for information on Stonehams in Ireland. My great-grandfather John Joseph Stoneham came to NY with his first wife Louisa Fitzpatrick and their son Michael Laurence in the late 1800's. When he was widowed in the early 1900's he went briefly back to Ireland to be re-married and then back to New York. His second wife's name was Mary C O'Hanlon.

John J was born in Dublin in August 1865. I have found online records of his baptism and those of three of his siblings: an older brother also called John in November 1861 (baptised St. Michan's, home address: 7 Canal Bank),
an older sister Margaret in December 1862 (baptised St. Michan's, home address: 7R Canal Bank), a younger brother Laurence Wolfetone in June 1867 (baptised St. Agatha's, home address: 4 King's Lane) and John's own in August 1865 (baptised St. Agatha's, home address 3 Portland Place). These records, as well as John J's death record list his parents as Laurence John Stoneham and Anne (Keating) Stoneham.

I have found a distant cousin's family tree online, but I don't think she uses the site anymore (or she just doesn't want to talk to me :) ) which lists the birthplace of Laurence John as Wexford, but I haven't been able to get a hold of her so I don't know where this information was obtained. She also has a few more siblings listed for John J than I have found evidence of yet. Maybe she has a family bible or something that I don't know about!

Anyway, any more information or relatives would be very welcome!

I am the great-granddaughter of Green Stoneham (Stoneham, TX, Grimes County). My great-grandfather was married to Emma Arthur (Scruggs) Bragg Stoneham. She had two children prior to marrying Green, he had one child outside of marriage and they had 8 children together. The eight were: Edith, Queen, Augustus (Gussie), Hegar, Emma, Fannie, John, and Earl. My Stoneham family moved from Grimes County in the early 1900's, to Lawton, Oklahoma. We have never learned of any siblings and/or other relatives of Green Stoneham. Do these names sound familiar?

Hi Peter
Interested to see some earlier messages (c2000) re Stonehams. I have been tracing the family for many years can confirm that the Church you mention was St Paulinus Crayford. Many Stonehams are buried there starting with William Stoneham buried 1728 and include most of the Russell-Stoneham branch of the family up to 1950s. Prior to 1700 the Stonehams were prevalent in the Sevenoaks area of Kent. The stained glass window was donated by Frederick Stoneham (1814-1878) who married Martha Russell of Swanscombe in 1869. He was responsible for the builiding of Orchard House in Perry Street in 1863. The Stoneham Family bequeathed this to the District of Crayford in 1933 and it became the Russell-Stoneham Maternity Hospital, it is now a British Legion Home.
William Stoneham's descendants also included another Frederick Stoneham (born 1872 in Peckham), a Photographers Manager, who married Nellie Bond in 30.9.1895 at St Jude's Church Peckham and they had a son , Ronald Bond Stoneham born 21.6.1912 in Peckham. I believe that these are your father and grandfather.
If you would like to contact me at pete.blake@btinternet.com I would be pleased to share additional details. I would be also interested in obtaning from you addtional info re the Frederick and Nellie (Bond) Stoneham branch of the family, I believe they also had other children - Nellie Bond Stoneham, Frederick Bond Stoneham and Rene Bond Stoneham.
Regards Peter Blake
Re: Stonehams England to Ontario Abt 1830

What part of England were your Stonehams from? I am tracing the line of William Stoneham who was b. abt. 1789 in Hamsey Sussex. He had three sons, but I cannot find any sign of them in the British Census records, so perhaps they emigrated. Just a thought. Sons names were Phillip and William .
Elizaberth
