Hi Philip,

I saw your post dated September 12, 2010. I saw where you referenced an "Aunt Maud". Can you tell me if she is Maud Dublin Stough? My Great Aunt was Maud Dublin and was married to a Fred Stough. They had two children, Thelma and Joseph. Maud's brother was my Grandfather's sister. His name was Daniel James Dublin.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Janice Dublin-Baker

Don’t know how much help I can be. Haven’t found any Guy’s or Gay/Gaylord STOUGH’s in our line (see below). You might want to check the work of Richard Glenn Huffman, who self-published several volumes on the STOUGH ancestry. His work can be found in the Latter Day Saints library in Utah and elsewhere. The last I contacted Mr Huffman was in 2005 when he was 79 years old. This was his address at the time:

Richard G. Huffman
P.O. Box 4
Whitney PA 15693

Have you tried entering his name in the search box on the My Family site?

The Maryland State Archives could have a copy of your grandfather’s birth certificate. Don’t know if they have anything back that far. You can print a copy of their birth certificate request form from the official MD Vital Records website. Google should get you there. If Guy/Gay is the 11-year-old working as a servant in the 1900 census (birth date is wrong), there may be a record of indenture. Again, the Maryland State Archives might be of assistance. Don’t know where exactly those records would be kept. Perhaps he was orphaned between his birth date and the 1900 census if that is him. Newspaper archives might turn up an obit or mention in the health department’s publication of deaths, births, etc., for his parents’ marriage or deaths.

-------------------------------------

Simon Peter STAUCH, 1747 - 1811 (generation 5), was the first STOUGH in this line to emigrate to America. His son, Johannes, 1773-1777 (generation 6) was the father of Simon STOUGH. I began my research with him. Simon (generation 7) and his first wife, Sophia GRIM, were born in Pennsylvania. Our STOUGH line moved steadily southwestward across the United States map from Pennsylvania in the late 1700's, to Ohio before 1856 and into Indiana by 1870. From there, Simon and three of his four sons, John, Sylvester and Jacob, could be found in Kansas from about 1880 to 1895, when some of his sons and grandchildren moved on to Arkansas. Two of Simon’s grandsons (sons of Jacob) headed for Washington DC around 1920 to work for the Federal government. Descendants of these grandsons can be found in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas. I can e-mail a copy of the tree outline if you wish. Contact me at poorepe@netzero.net and let me know if you want the file in Word or WordPerfect.

You have so little to go on. It must be frustrating for you. I’ve flagged your request and will get back in touch if anything turns up. Good luck!

Pat

My husband's grandfather was named Guy Stough/Staugh. Also known as Gaylord, Gay Lee and Gay. Family supposedly came from Germany. I have very little records. Family says Guy was born in Maryland. He and his wife, Anna Lee Cave lived in Baltimore, MD for awhile and had two children, born 1920 and 1921. Not much known about this person and my husband's grandmother refused to talk about her first husband. I do have a record of where he registed for the draft for WWI and he was living in Montana at the time. Do yo have any info about this person. I do not know the name of his mother or father. Nothing on his death certificate except that he died in a TB Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA in 1940. He is buried in a pauper's grave in Braddock, PA. The grandchildren got togeter and put a stone on his grave. Any info you have on this person would be of great help. He was born sometime between 1888 and 1890. All records I have of him shows different ages.

Sounds good. Since first reading your post I talked to my mother and I'm pretty sure now we are looking for the same family. I didn't know the names of any of Hazel's siblings, but she says she remembers an Aunt Maud visiting Hazel on several occasions when she was young and the family still lived in the Midwest.

Feel free to send me an email directly and we can exchange info (phil4005 at yahoo dot com)

Regarding your post about William/Elizabeth Kunkel Stough. I may be of extensive help to you with research I've done on William's ancestry-siblins, and limited help with his family. Do you live close to York,Pa for research at the York Heritage Trust library? I usually get there several times a month.

Hello, I am hoping you are still reading at this site since you posted 7 years ago.

My grandmother is Hazel Rice (maiden name: Stough) and she was born in Ohio in 1898. I can find her in census records in Ravenna, OH in 1920, but nothing before that. She later married and moved west to California where I was born. The story through my family is that she was adopted but I am unsure whether Stough is her birth name or adopted name. Anyway, since several of the details match what you posted I would love to exchange any information.

Would appreciate any information about the Michael Alfred Stough family. Michael (b. 1896), son of Richard J. Stough and Emma Thompson, married Marie Ware (b. 1901), daughter of Homer Ware and Bessie Harris. They lived in the Charlotte, NC, area. I believe Michael was born in that area. Marie was born in Georgia. In the 1930 census, Michael and Marie have a daughter, Dolores, who is 4 years and a few months old. I would like to know if Dolores married and to whom. Would also appreciate knowing where they all are buried. Bessie Harris and my husband's grandmother were sisters.

Hi. I am descended from Peter Stough (1800-1869) who married Elizabeth Gross (1802-1858), and their son William Stough (1824-1894) who married Elizabeth Kunkle (1827-1876). Peter's father was Johannes Stough (b.1773). Do you have any info on this line? They are from the Dover area in York Co. I have names and dates for the most part, but I'd like other info

I am interested in querys about Adam Stough's family and his possible connection to the Joseph Stough(1818-1873)family of Adams County, PA and Andrew Stough(1815-1899)family of Paradise Twp.
I have been trying to get hold of you, but I don't think you have gotten any of my e-mail. What is your current e-mail address? I am writing an article on John Stough and his contribution to Ohio Lutheranism. I've gathered a lot of material. Do you know of any resources or archives that might help me? I served in a congregation in Youngstown, Ohio, that was begun by Stough and many people from his church in Washington, Pa. I also was a faculty member of Hamma School of Theology at Wittenberg, one of the seminaries he had a hand in beginning. Hope to hear from you Rev. John K. Luoma, Ph.D.

Hello,
I have a lot of articles, etc., but there is no way to guess what might be duplicates of material which you have already collected. Do you have a working bibliography so that I could cross reference and not send you what you already have? Jan Bowman Czubaj

The diaries of John Stough are in the archives of the Ministerium of Pennsylvania, located in the library of the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pa.; I have collected many articles and resources on the life of John Stough. I am currently doing research for an article on his life and contribution to Lutheranism in Ohio. If anyone knows of archives and resources that would help me, I would appreciate the information. I served as a pastor in one of the churches Stough began, Bethlehem Lutheran in Youngstown, Ohio. Thanks. Rev. Dr. John K. Luoma
