Stow(e) - Danberry (Danbury) - Higgins - San Antonio Texas

Hi group,

-While researching my family Stowe line, a relationship is bugging me. My GG parents are Albert Stowe [1857-1924] and Mary Molly Jane Danbury [1859-1947] of SA Texas. Most of the death certificates of their children list Mollie Danbury as the mother, however a couple of them list Mollie Higgins. I don't have the information that explains the relationship of Higgins. If anyone knows about this, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks, Travis

I realize I'm responding to a 9-year-old post, but hoping against hope that you're still out there, Michael. Cyrus Ellis Stowe's daughter Amelia was my 2nd great-grandmother and I'm looking for any primary or derivative documentation about her. What is the source for the "1896 deposition" given by Lyman F. Stowe about the whereabouts of his brother Cyrus? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kate Frazier

following on from my previous thread I now have additional info that may help to solve mystery as to why I cant find a birth registration for William George Stow
I have seen the records at Lancashire Police entries William George Stow was a Policeman (already knew that) His Date of Birth is given as 27th February 1890 Messingham. It also seems he was Baptised at Holy Trinity Church Messingham on 18th April 1890. This means they did not return to Dalton in Furness straight after he was born. I wonder what was going on work wise to keep his Father there
And why no Birth certificate?

Please can anyone check the Messingham Lincolnshire Parish Registers for the birth of William George Stow born February 1890. I have been unable to find a Birth Certificate for him but all of his brothers and sisters have one . His siblings were all born in Dalton Lancashire. Only William George was born in Messingham WHY. They were back in Dalton on the 1891 census with William as a one year old and his older sister Mary and brother John Their parents were William Stow born 1865 Messingham and Ellen Augustus Harris born Cornwall There were many siblings born after William George and they were all born in Dalton Lancashire. I know William George was born in February 1890 because he was a Policeman and it is on his Police Records thanks Pam

Hi
Just browsing again and noticed your posting in May this year I may have replied then but don't remember so just to confirm, my ancester Robert Stow, a tailor was born about 1610 but have not found any birth yet. married in Ealing but settled in Watford Hertfordshire his ancestors moved nearer to St Albans before coming into London in the early 1800s. Anyone coming across Robert anywhere please let me know. John Stow, who you all know as the antiquarian was born in 1525 and died in 1605 in London

Martha married Reuben Yates in 1858 in Steyning. He was from Cheshire. I think Martha's parents were John (clements) Stow and Clara Wells, who were married in 1815. I think John's parents were William and Ann Clements but I am not sure. I would l ilike to confirm this and find out about their parents who must have been born in the 18th century. Also I'd like to trace Clara Wells line. Any help, suggestions or comments would be very welcomed. Thanks, david

As you all seem to think you are related to the famous John Stow antiquarian can anyone tell me who his children were and where they were born?
Alternatively, post a tree that shows a direct line back to him that we can all follow. I would love to hear from anyone from the Hertfordshire Stow's, as I do not think I have any connection with Kent or Oxfordshire.

In 20+ years of research, you are the first I have read that has mentioned 300 yrs plus in Oxfordshire for the Stow(e) family. I can go back to John and Joan Baker in Biddenden, then -- nothing. Do your Oxfordshire Stows connect to the Biddenden Stows? Any crumb of help is always wanted. (I just noticed your post is nearly 3 years old - I hope you're still "doing" genealogy)

Peter Stow, 1733-1817, CT

Peter and his wife Mary ("Polly") Cotton lived in Middletown, Middlesex, CT. Peter served as a private in the Revolutionary War and signed the Oath of Fidelity in Middletown in 1784.

Two of his children are Dorothy who married Isaac Bacon and James who married Mehitable Richardson.

I'm looking for information on Elizabeth ("Betsy") who may also be his child. She was born around 1771 but I have not been able to find a birth record for her. She married Elijah Bowe of Middletown in 1791. They later moved to Jefferson county, NY, where they spent the remainder of their lives.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Kathy
Kailua, Hawaii

George Stow marriage 1841, Northamptonshire, England

If anyone has George Stow in their tree getting married in 1841 in Brixworth district, beware of a glitch in the FreeBMD database.

If you search for George's marriage, FreeBMD database brings up 2 grooms but only 1 bride. George Stow's wife is Sarah in the census and the database brings up a Sarah Crofts, so people tend to assume she is George's wife.

The parish register shows that George Stow actually married Sarah DUNKLEY.

(Sarah Crofts married William Goldley on the same page of the register. Searching for her brings up a reference with ? in it, hence it doesn't match George Stow's reference.)

That's why its essential to check the original documents and not just rely on indexes!

Hi,

I have come to a dead end researching my family history from the late 18th and early 19th century. My last traces of contact are in greenwich, Bermondsey and Stepney before the trail goes cold. It's a bit of a long shot but I'm looking for informatio9n (birth and marraige) of a John Stow b.c1777 who died Greenwich, kent, 1828. He married a Mary weaver presumably in or before 1798. 8/9 children are confirmed as Christened at St.alfage, greenwich, Kent, two of which were born in Bermondsey.

They had a son William Frederick who (according to Pallots) married a Mittey couch 31/12/1828 St.Dunstans Stepney.

Any information to rule out (or in) a connection would be great.

Regards

Andrew

Hi Maria,

Absolutely fascinating!!I only recently found out that our grandfather had been married before and we were told as children that he had died at Gallipoli in the first world war which obviously wasn't true.I have never seen a photograph of Albert Samuel or know of one in our part of the family which always seemed very strange. My father John Richard Samuel Stow was your grandfather's half brother and as far as I know he never knew your grandfather existed. My dad died in 2003 aged 87 and he was born in 21a Upcerne Road Chelsea 1916 but when my grandmother married Albert they lived at 107 Beaufort Street Chelsea. There are so many questions that I feel that I need to ask you that I could be wtiting for a week.Who do you think you are have a lot to answer for!! My e-mail address is michael@mstow8.wanadoo.co.uk and I live in the noth east of England in County Durham in a small village called Gainford.

I look forward to your reply

Kind Regards

Mike Stow
He may be related to a group of Stow's who were ship builders from woolwich in the mid 1800's. I believe it was John Stow who moved to Australia from the lineage I am thinking of. He moved to Australia around 1850ish. I have come across this group while researching a group of Stow's from greenwich to whom I am related.

I came across this name when looking at the 1901 Census. Ashton H Stow (Born abt 1855 Mellis, Suffolk, England)was a boarder/lodger with my Great-great grandfather William J Warren, wife and family. In 1901 they were living in Burnham,Essex,England and Ashton's occupation is down as Yacht Builders Apprentice.

I am interested to find out some more information about Ashton H Stow, how he came to live there and where and when he left.

Anything would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

hi Robert and everyone
I have just tuned into this site and I am very interested in all the messages about John Stow, Antiquarian. he was born in 1525 and died in 1605 and there does not seem to be any connection with him and Biddeneden in Kent.I too have tried to connect my family to John as I am so close, but have not been able to make that jump. My last ancestor was a Robert Stow married in Ealing in 1633, a tailor like John. His family spent 300 years in Hertfordshire before my ancestor moved into london in the early 19c. I would be pleased to hear from any of you who might have Stow(e) connections in London and Herts. you can also check out my Hunt/Stow tree
I think you're right on the family connection there. I will send you a separate email to say hi. But I can tell you that the research is going well. I'm excluding a few of the options on John Stows or potential siblings around the greenwich area. However I am yet to make a positive conncetion of his parentage or other siblings.

My current avenues of investigation are 1) getting hold of the 1823/4 pigot's directory for middlesex (its a quirk of the pigot's system that greenwich is not listed in the kent directories in the early years - instead it's connected with London); 2) post office listings for late 1700's early 1800's, and 3) pre 1800 parish registers for St. Alphege, Kent.

There are a couple of leads of boatbuilders from woolwich (ie. right near greenwich) - some of whom came to Australia - that i am following up but I am in the early stage of making connections if there are any.

The upshot is I am still seeking info on John Stow and Mary Weaver's siblings and parentage.

Andrew

I am seeking information on a John Stow b. abt 1770 (perhaps 1772). He married a Mary Weaver and had 8 children that I know of:

George b. 1800
William b. 1802 - 1854
Mary Ann b. 1804
John b. 1806
Eliza b. 1808
Catherine b. 1810
Frances b. 1812
Alexander b. 1815 - d. 1862 (Australia)

I have established a connection with St. Alfege (or St. Alphage), Greenwich, Kent with the youngest son Alexander and his family before they immigrated to Australia but I have no other concrete evidence relating to John. John may have died and been buried around July 1828 in St. Alfege, Greenwich, Kent.

I am working from Australia and have not been able to make inroads on John in terms of his parents or siblings.

Any assistance in shedding light on to this lineage would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew Stow
