Julia,
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I don't believe our George and Horace Streeter's are the same persons. The similarities, though, are interesting. Here is what I have:
George Streeter b.Nov 1808 in New York, d 26 Nov 1889 in Idaho
married Mary Austin Gillette b 22 Nov 1812 in Albany, NY d.24 Feb 1885 in Idaho/Washington
They had 2 children
Emily Belinda Streeter b 5 Nov 1835 in Troy, NY d. 26 May 1922 in Montana
George W. Streeter b. 29 Jan 1847 in Wisconsin d. 9 Jan 1928 in Idaho

George W. Streeter married Matilda Mitchell b ABT 1849 in Wisconsin d. 18 Nov 1874 in Wisconsin
George W. & Matilda had 3 children
Horace Streeter b.
To: Linda Fildes

I see several similarities in my husband's genealogy, to those listed in your posting.

You mention George STREETER mrd Mary GILLETTE.
I have a Horace STREETER who mrd Cornelia GILLETT.

Horace Ballard STREETER was born 2 Apr 1819 in Cayuga Co., NY, the son of Josiah A. and Ruby STEBBINS STREETER. There may have been more, but I have only three children born to this couple. Horace mrd Cornelia GILLETT (b. 12 June 1820, in Erie Co., NY). She was the dau. of Charles GILLETT, also of Erie Co., NY. Cornelia died 29 Apr 1901 in Hamilton, Caldwell Co., MO. Horace died 12 Nov 1902 in Hamilton, Caldwell Co., MO.

Horace and Cornelia had nine children:
Horace Judson Streeter, b 15 Mar 1844, Cortland Co., NY
Charles Edgar Streeter, b 2 Oct 1846, Homer, Cortland Co., NY
George W. Streeter, b 1847, Homer, Cortland Co., NY
Martin Streeter, b June 1850
Willie Streeter, b 23 Mar 1853, Homer, Cortland Co., NY
Nellie A. Streeter, b 19 June 1855,
Berdett Streeter, b 1847
Cornelia Streeter, b abt 1856
William Streeter, b 1863

I have more detailed info on many of the names above, and specifically Charles Edgar STREETER, second son of Horace B. and Cornelia Gillett STREETER.

Julia Kerr Glenn
Kountze, TX
I have produced reports showing the specific details of Streeter individuals and the sources.

Ada Nettie Streeter b. 1874
Child Streeter b. 1871
Emily Streeter b. 1835
Everett "Pete" Streeter b. 1896
George Streeter b. 1808
George Streeter b. 1847
Harold "Harry" Streeter b. 1893
Horace Austin Streeter b. 1872
Ralph O. Streeter b. 1900
Robert Harry Streeter b. 1874

I also have a descendant report for George Streeter b. 1808 which connects all the above individuals. People born since 1912 without death information have been labeled 'Living'.

The reports are too long to include in the post and are PDFs so can't be attached. I'll send them via email upon request.
Harry & Everett Streeter were cousins of my grandfather Clarence Streeter. I have researched the line back to George Streeter and Mary Austin Gillette.

George Streeter(son of above George)& Matilda (nee Mitchell) had 3 children, Horace, Ada/Nettie, and Robert. I am descended from Horace's line. Robert married twice. First to Celia Timm. Their children were Harold (Harry), Everett, & Ralph. Robert's second marriage was to Dolly Fessenden. Their children included Ruby, Cecil, Nettie, Sylvia, & Wilbur. My grandfather knew the children from Robert's first marriage. I believe I have a photo of Harry and my grandfather Clarence. I would be happy to share information.
I am going to stretch my neck out.
I suspect this is Robert Harry Streeter who appears to be the son of George W. Streeter and Matilda Mitchell. George was the son of George Streeter and Mary Gillette. It appears that that that George and Mary moved from New York to Dover, Racine, Wisconsin after 1840 and before 1850. George W. was probably born in Racine County. He had a sister named Emily who married William Baker and removed to Farmington, Whitman, Washington by 1880. Emily died in 1922 in Montana.

I have not yet found George Streeter and Mary Gilette's ancestry.

Here are my notes:
Robert Streeter Notes:

Probably the son of George W Streeter and Matilda Mitchell.
Thank you, John for your speedy reply. You caught my attention with your comment about the Streeter Family Association. I hadn't heard of that group. Are you part of that group? Do they have any online info? Do they accept new members?

Everett & Harold seem to be names favored by the Streeters. They crop up all over the place.

The Streeters I'm working with are all in eastern Washington state. They seemed to come primarily from Minnesota (a few Montana and some Wisconsin) to either Washington or Idaho. Robert just 'appears' in a marriage record in WA and later in census records in ID. Life was rough in the 1880-1920s for the homesteaders and record keeping was not their highest priority... unfortunately for me.

Thanks again & good luck to you with your searches!
- Evelyn

While I cannot identify the Robert or Everett Streeter that you mention. I not that in the descendants of Stephen and Ursula (Adams) Streeter being compiled by the Streeter Family Association, there is so far only one person that has the name "Fessenden" and it as his middle name: Charles Fessenden Metcalf, b. 05 May 1875. He married a Florence Streeter, b. 22 September 1884 in Holland, MA. Her brother, Harold Spaulding Streeter, had a son Robert Streeter about whom there is very little information. No marriages or decendants. He had siblings: Marie, Edward, and Harold Spaulding Streeter, Jr. We have several Everett Streeters, none with a father named Robert.
One son for sure, Everett Streeter b. 1896.

He may also be the husband of Dolly (Fessenden) and father of Harry and Ralph.

Hi Diana

Levi J Streeter was discharged from the Union Army on 7/24/1865 at Louisville, KY. His wife, Princetta Alexander filled for a widows pension 9/18/1865 which was issued to her on certificate 143600. Princetta remarried 11/27/1867 to Stephen Andrew Elder. According to a descendant of one of Levi's siblings Levi kept a diary of his days in Andersonville Prison which the family still has. He suffered from dysentery which was contract at Andersonville.

There were several Levi Streeter's in that era. I research the Streeter name and would be glad to assist you.

My email address is: isberg48@yahoo.com

Regards,
Larry Isberg

Greetings from Denver--We are researching a man named Levi J Streeter who died in Colorado in the 1890s. Do you think it might be possible that your relative came to Colorado after being discharged from the Union Army following his release from the Andersonville prison? We'd be happy to share information.
Diana
Denver Colorado
Mack
Marvin Rush Street 1889-1924 + Lurena Violet Strong
Charles Washington Street 1862-1935 + Margie L. Maynard
Simon Peter Street 1833-1913 + Susan Wilson
Anthony Street 1807-1883 + Stacy Rose Endicott
Simon Thomas Street 1760/1770-1850 + Elizabeth Clingman
Thomas Street 1745-1800 + Lucy Gage
Anthony Street 1710-1790 + Elizabeth Brockman
William Street 1682-1752 + Jane Waddy
George Street 1662-1751 + Alicia Stewart
John Streeter (to Street) 1636-1711 + Ann Bevan
Stephen Streeter 1592-1652 + Ursula Adams

According to the book 'The Street Genealogy', written 1895
there was a William Streets (from Ireland) who was an elderly man on a ship to the new colony while a Stephen Streete was a reporter of the crew. It is mentioned a sentence later that Stephen died in 1651 (possibly an error for 1652) at Massachusetts and had three grown children named Samuel, Stephen, and John. John was my ancestor. The old Irish form of the surname was Straoits.

War of 1812 Soldiers & Sailors named Streeter

The 200th anniversary of the Battle of Tippecanoe, the first battle of the War of 1812 is November 7, 2011. The National Archives, FGS and footnote.com (Fold3) have started a multi year project to index and digitize the War of 1812 records to assist family researchers. (As of the date of this posting it is about 1% complete).

I am in the process of identifying people with the surname Streeter (Strater, Streter, Streetor) that served, what units they served in (militia, regular army, navy etc) and if they were in any battles. I would also like to identify descendants or spouses of female Streeter’s that served. Some data has been collected from various state websites and pay services like ancestry.com.

The ultimate goal is to establish a database on line listing this information to assist other family researchers. If you have information to share on Streeter’s (or female Streeter spouses and descendants) that served I would be glad to add them to the database.

My email address is: isberg48@yahoo.com

Thank you,
Larry Isberg
Thanks for your post. I am not the most knowledgeable person in the Streeter Family Association of the earliest immigrant's origins in Kent, we suspect that he was born in Goudhurst and baptized in Tenterden, possibly in the early 1590s. I am not familiar with Chislehurst, so I will have to do some google searching to check the proximity to the places that we know. It would be a please to work with you to determine if there is a link. I will bring your message to the attention of our principal genealogist, and see if can shed some light on the topic. My concentration has been on understanding the lineages of the descendants in America.

di Strocchio>De Lestre>Atte Strete>Streeter>Street

Hello everyone, I've been looking for a connection between my Street line and the Streeters, who were descended from the Atte Stretes. My grandfather, Ted Street, was told by his mother that the family name was originally Streeter. My ancestor's name was Alexander Street, b 1607 d 1685 (you can find him on familysearch.org/eng/) whose father was Stephen Streate/Streete. Stephen was born 1592 in Chislehurst, Kent, England. Now when I was reading a book called "The Street Genealogy" (which was made in the late 1800's) I found a Steven Streete who went to Massachusetts leaving grown children named John, Stephen, and Samuel in the colony.

Could it be that Stephen Streete was originally one of the Streeters of Goudhurst, Kent? Was he the father of Alexander Street?

Also, I found a great deal on the Streeters/Streets. Originally, the family name was Strocchio after the fall of Rome. Many generations later, a man named John fathered four children, who went to Paris in France and had descendants that lived in Rouen in Normandy, which spread out as different families with surnames starting with "Str". Their descendants where mostly in England and Ireland, very few in Italy though.

Other family names are Strelley, Stritch, Streatley, Strech, Streit

Additional research shows that John O Streeter was a minister and served Brethren churches in the Spokane, WA area. The following are excerpts from a message board posting. The reference to John O Streeter is in paragraph 2 regarding North Spokane Church of Brethren ministers.

From: "Doris Dibert" dadibert@embarqmail.com
Subject: [BRE] Brethren in Washington State
Date: Wed, 4 May 2011 09:33:32 -0400

In reference to the request regarding a Church of the Brethren in Spokane, WA in the early 1900s, there are 4 references in the Brethren Encyclopedia.

Spokane CoB, WA, located in Spokane and Whitman Cos. Since A.N. Huffman moved to Tekoa in 1877, he and later Brethren settlers in eastern Washington appealed to the denomination for ministerial leadership. Visiting ministers attempted to fill this need. By 1888 some 30 Brethren were counted as residents in a large area. An attempted organization in 1890 was thwarted by bad weather. It was not until Oct. 21-22, 1899, that the Spokane congregation was organized with 33 members at the home of Huffman, 50 miles from Spokane. Jacob N. Gwin of Idaho was chosen as elder and D.M. Click and J. Harmon Stover called as ministers. Spokane developed 3 meeting places for worship: Wayside, Waverly, and Tokoa. The last named was the first to build a meetinghouse (1903) and became a separate congregation in 1909. Members living near Chewelah had already been separately organized in 1906 as Mount Hope. When the North Spokane body was organized in 1920, the First Spokane congregation gradually dwindled. It was last listed on denominational rolls in 1924 with 46 members. Those serving as pastors and elders were Click, J. Jordan, J.G. Miller, H.C. Longanecker, Charles M. Yearout, Stephen Johnson, Erwin Weaver, W.H Tigner, and W.C. Lehman.

Spokane, WA, North Spokane CoB. Mission work in North Spokane began in 1919, and later in the same year a congregation was organized by the District Mission Board. In 1920 Stephen Johnson was the first minister of the 28 members; by 1921 there were 47 members. The number of members grew steadily, reaching 116 in 1933. Members used a meetinghouse on Rich Ave. and Martin St. There was considerable turnover in pastoral leadership and many years in which nonresident elders were listed in charge of the congregation. Among those serving as pastors or elders were Johnson, Sherman Clapper, J.J. Filbrun, W.H. Tigner, J,U.G. Stiverson, R.F. Hiner, O.B. Gregory, D. Warren Shock, C.E. Holmes. John O. Streeter, Harvey H. Hanson, Jay V. Eller, and David Ensign. North Spokane was last listed on denonimational rosters in 1941. The building was sold to the Latter Day Saints.

Sources for the articles were from the book, Brethren on the Pacific Slope by Gladys Muir, and Yearbook (1920-1941). There were no references to the Wagoner or Estvelt names. There are 2 other short articles on the Tekoa and Mount Hope congregations. Several of the ministers and elders named were from central Washington churches.

Doris Dibert
(formerly of Wenatchee, WA)o

I don't know the name of Margaret's father/Nina's husband or when they got married. If they ever did.

The family lived in the Grand Rapids, MI area from what I've been told. I am unsure whether the "Streeter" is the exact spelling as the name was dictated by my grandmother.

Nina may be the daughter of Albert T. Streeter and Nancy G. Worrall but the census info doesn't add up for 1910.

Thanks in advance for any help!
