Bob (or anyone for that matter),

I am tracking my Stringer line. My grandfather was Velton B. Stringer (of Stringer, Jasper, Mississippi), my great-grandfather was Wiley Monroe Stringer, and all I can find of my great,great-grandfather is L. (Lemon or possibly Lemuel?) Stringer. Family stories report L. (Lemon?) Stringer is the son of Simon or Simeon Stringer, but I have found nothing linking the two people.

If anyone has any info regarding this mysterious L. Stringer, I would be most appreciative.

Sincerely,
John

Does anyone have any idea who this

Heather, Sorry that I can't help you with your Stringer ancestry. I have been fortunate in the last few months to find all my Stringer descendents. So I can account for all in my line. My Stringer Ancester was the only one in his family to come to the US. Good luck with your search!!

Thank you but I don't think that name is in our line. My picture is different; the babies are lying together alone on a blanket. My oldest Stringer is John Stringer b. 1832 in England m. Esther Hartshorn 1854 in England. Four children: James 1856, Isabella 1858, William 1859, (of which I know nothing)and my line Erasmus 1863. Erasmus had six children, two (John & Clarence) moved to Calif. and I do have some info on some of them, not much. Unless any of this looks familiar I doubt were in the same tree. Otherwise let me know. Thank you for the reply! Enjoy the continuation of your search.

I, too, have a picture of a seated lady holding twin babies. A gentleman in a uniform is standing next to her. I believe this lady to be Anzonetta Stringer Chamblee, but am not completely sure. To my knowledge this lady lived her entire life in the south (Georgia and Alabama). I would be happy to share the picture if you wish.

While I never moved from IA or IL, my Great Grandmother was a Stringer...a twin, if I remember correctly. She died around 1998 or so in Sterling Rock Falls IL. She had a daughter named Barbara and I'm sure other children. Barbara married twice and had 4 children; Neil, Dan, Rhonda and Lori. Lori's Maiden name was Daine. Lori entered military service, married James Edward Poulson and had 5 children; Heather, Elizabeth, Karen(deceased), David and Samuel.

Not sure if this will help. It's all I know at the moment.

~Heather

Joe B. was my great-great grandfather. It goes like this: Joe B. > Maude Mary Blackburn > married Albert Shawcross > Hubert Pennington Shawcross, child, my grandfather > Gertrude Ann Shawcross, my mother. I am compiling a written family history of which a great part is of the Stringers of Northern England.

I hope it is not too late to connect.

Judy

Leonard Tucker

Hi LettieMae,

George Tucker and Maria Dorthea were married about 1764. George was a chaplain in the Revolutionary War and he also furnished supplies to the Army. They raised a large family and were the ancestors of many families in western Stanly County. He lived in Mecklenburg County, N.C., in that part that is now Cabarrus County, near the Reed Gold Mine, but owned land on both the east and west sides of the Rocky River, the east side being what is now Stanly County. He is listed in Roster of Revolutionary soldiers in NC (page 344 #2726 Salisbury District) as a patriot, having signed the oath of allegiance and furnished supplied. He lived in Mecklenburg Co. N.C. in the part that is now Cabarrus Co. near the Reed Gold mine, but he owned land on both the east and west sides of Rocky River, the east side being what is now Stanly County Most of George's children lived in Cabarrus County. However, sons Leonard and Peter, along with sons in laws James Little and Leonard Cagle, lived in Montgomery Co. That part that is now Stanly. George may have been twice married, but there is no record of his first wife's name. A John (Jon) Tucker who owned land adjoining the Tucker heirs but was not mentioned in the distribution and settlement of George Tucker's estate may have been a son by his first wife? His second wife, Maria Dorothea, is proven by her giving her consent as his wife to conveyance dated April term 1795. George and Maria Dorothea were married about 1764. George died before October 1804 as James Little and George Tucker, Jr. were appointed administrators of his estate at that time. Maria Dorothea died before September 1815, as the children sell her widow's dower land at that time.

Do you have the vitals on John?

I have researched this branch of the family -- that is, Jane's parents and can go back at least one generation. I've even gone to England to the area were Jane parents were from as I'm a descendant from one of Jane's siblings. Which of Jane and John Burton's children are you descended?

As for their marriage, I have reason to believe it occurred in Montreal, Canada, but have not pursued it to be sure.

Look forward to further correspondence with you.

Stringer Family In Kentucky Native American (different lineage than the last thread, I believe)

I noticed another thread asking about Native American in the Stringer line in Kentucky. I don't think it's the same as my Stringer line, but I am hoping someone can help me! I have a Margaret Stringer that has her death certificate listing Gray Stringer as her father. It doesn't have her mother on it, but I think, from a website I saw somewhere, that her mother is Elizabeth Pitt?
Anyway, Margaret Stringer married John J Breedlove. The family tends to believe that their daughter, Lucy Johnson Breedlove, was Native American. I have complete and total confirmation that the Breedloves had no Native American following the lines that led to John J Breedlove. So if there is any Native American then it would have had to come from Margaret Stringer's line.
I'm hoping someone out there can help me with this! I would like to be able to have a difinitive answer. I am unable to even use DNA to test for it since I am not on a direct mtDNA line with the Stringers, rather Margaret is my father's father's mother's mother...

Help!

Hello again,

I have been doing more research into the Stringer side of my family and I believe that I have found a connection. I have traced back and discovered the Passenger List for William Stringer and Mary Roach along with their many children: William, Annie, Thomas, Edward, Michael, Robert, Charles, Emily and Eugene. The family arrived in Quebec June 25, 1883. They then moved to Toronto for a few years before some of them relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. I have many documents about each family member.

Just to note, Eugine died in Toronto in 1886 at the young age of 6. Another thing to note is that there were two siblings named Thomas. I am a decendent of the older Thomas. The younger Thomas was born during their time in Toronto; however, in all future documents young Thomas lists himself as born in Ohio.

I have found many documents including some information about your great-grandfather Michael Stringer. I also have the names of Mary Roach's parents. Please feel free to look at my tree for all the details or just email me any questions.

Hello,

I may have a possible connection to your family tree. It is possible that the Thomas Stringer you mention is the same Thomas Stringer in my family tree (my Great-Great Grandfather).

I have a William Stringer and Mary as Thomas's parents. All three of them were born in Gallway, Ireland. I believe Thomas was born around 1865. He was a carpenter.

In my records, Thomas first pops up in Toronto, Canada in the 1891 census. He is living with his wife Minnie (Ferguson) and son Alphonse (later changed to Albert) born 1889. Approx three years later they have Marie Grace.

Stories from my grandmother have stated that it is possible that Minnie and Thomas first met in Ohio. She mentioned something about an inn that the Stringers may have run/owned. Minnie (who was born in Ontario) was said to have gone to the States and worked for the inn where she met Thomas.

They eventually ended up in Toronto. Sometime after that, the marriage fell apart. Thomas was abusive to Minnie. She had a restraining order taken out against him around 1901. Family stories believe that Thomas may have had another wife/family, perhaps back in Ohio or in other parts of the States. Thomas does not appear with Minnie or daughter Grace on the 1901 Canada census. I have been unable to locate him or his son Alphonse (Albert) in this census.

I'm not sure if any of this helps or is of interest but if you would like any other information about this branch of the family, please let me know. Overall, they are a difficult bunch to track down, especially since they were not completely honest with the facts in a lot of documents.

Best Wishes,

Michelle Hutchinson

There were two John Stringers in early Virginia. One on the Western Shore and the other on the Eastern Shore including both Northampton and Accomack. I suspect the one on the western shore connected to Daniel.
Col. and doctor John Stringer was in Northampton practicing medicine about 1639 so I suspect his birth was before 1621. Using the new LDS website there are two John Stringers from the Kent area of England. One born 1611 and the other 1614. These dates seem more plausible. I suspect the area of Kent because many names in Vaughns work were from Kent. Col John Stringer seemed to stay on the Eastern Shore though he traveled for business.

I never received notice as to your reply. Though I have spent awhile researching my Bennett line I have only a little to go on.
William Bennett 1739-1802 is reasonably documented because he was a Master Mariner for Virginia in the Revolution.
The LDS site has his father as William Bennett 1710-1783 or 1788.He served in the Army. (Problem with the Virginia Library-They have given his death date to his son)
The LDS site has Samuel Bennett b. 1685 of Va m a Matilda Bell of Ireland. I suspect this is the Samuel Bennett apprentice to Robert Clark copper named in his will filed in Northampton, VA.
On the Hugh Baker site by a Vaughn Baker it states a William Willet and a Samuel Bennett were head rights for Col. John Stringer. John Stringer is said to have had involvement with hundreds of head rights. Why were only William Willet and Samuel Bennett mentioned? William Willet marries into the Stringer family. I read and reread Vaughns work with that question in my mind.
Then I noticed the Epps/Aps wills. One will mentions an earlier John Stringer of Kent England and a William Bennett as a godson of Epps.
A few people have posted that John Stringer married an Ann but only one gave her name as Ann Bennett, Problem she didn't know the source.

When I wrote this in 1999 I too believed Nancy Davis was Gaither's Mother. Since then Del Hart a descendant of Nancy Stringer and Elisha Hart has given me the corrected information that Nancy David was NOTY Gaither's Mother but the second wife of his step Fathe Elisha Hart. The fact that both wives were named Nancy and that he was with a Nancy in 1850 (died in 1852) and also a Nancy in 1860 (married abt 1855)weas a source of confuusion to researchers. In the Eastern Indian Applications Andrew Hart son of Nancy Stringer and Elisha sais his Mother was Nancy Stringer and she did in 1852.
