Thank you so much. Since I wrote you I have been researching the other side of the family and now back to the Studleys. I have some rough information about David Studley's forebearers and I am just going back to review & search. I do have a lot of information about the Jonathans who follow. From whom are you descended and are you ready to exchange names. I am adament about reliable resources--like your letter of your grandfather's. We are fortunate to have had our grandfathers leave out their work.

Thank you for your reponse on the Studleys. I descend from Fred and Effie through their son, Fred "Carroll" who married Garaphelia Wilder. Garaphelia and I are first cousins, two generations removed.
I am missing the exact death dates of Fred A. and Effie. I believe he died in 1930 and she in 1924, both in Hanover. I grew up in North Pembroke and visited Hanover several times a week because my mother's parents lived in Hanover. Their names were Gordon and Mildred (Josselyn) Rogers.
If you would be willing to share the exact death dates of Fred and Effie, I would be grateful. Do you happen to have their obituaries or any biographical information? You can contact me at cfkroeger@yahoo.com.
Thanks for the response. I am aware of a Thomas Studley in Jamestown in 1607, and there might be some relation. I can trace as far back as Joseph Studley, born in 1682 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts which is why I think a Massachusetts link is more likely. I have seen information that Joseph is possibly the son of John Studley (born 1659 in Boston) and Sarah Brooks (born 1650 in Marshfield), but some of the dates and locations seem questionable.

Meredith

Need clarification re: Lewis' two wives; #1 wife Lucy Simmons and #2 wife Lucy Dunbar. Would like to have documentation for marriage dates. I'm having to assume dates merely because of first child's birthdate. My line comes through Lewis Sr. and Lucy Dunbar's daughter Joanna, who married Levi Newcomb. Their daughter, also Joanna, married Thomas Sherar, my daddy's grandpa.

Hi - as far as I know, the ancestry of Data/Doty Studley has never been discovered. She was my gr-gr-gr-gr grandmother, and was married to Peter Eddy of Scituate/Foster, RI. She was probably born in RI around 1790, but I suppose Connecticut is a possibility also. Is there a family Bible out there somewhere, or does anyone know where she is buried? After her death, Peter married a Rizpah Bates, born in Connecticut. Thanks for any help. Diane Carpenter

Looking for info on Lewis Studley Sr and Jr. Confused about Lewis Sr's marriage to two different Lucys -- Simmons and Dunbar. Can you clear this up for me? Also, I don't believe I have Lucy Dunbar's correct birthdate, either 1784 or 1769. Decided it couldn't be 1784, since the children started birthing in the 1790s. Kinda hard to do. Thanks for anything you can give me. Pam in Arkansas

From my research I would I find that the Studley's arrived in Boston in about 1859 and Jamestown (not my branch of the family) in 1607. My branch of the family arrived in Boston, went to Hanover, Scituate, Chestertown, MA then to VT to NY to MI.

I reviewed the letter mentioning Lydia again and found that my grandfather had scratched out the name beginning with an L and think that it was infact Loice. I do not know anything of Studley in ME. Sorry and good luck with your searhing. Jeanette

Thank you for the reply Jeanette. When I was in Maine last year I walked Mills Weeks Cemetery in that section of China, Maine and I saw the gravestone of an Isaac Studley but I saw no other gravestones with that surname on it so I'm not even sure if the family comes from that area originally. I've not been able to find much on the family at all. I'll keep plugging at it next time I go north.

Barbara

Unfortunately I do not have any concrete information for you but:
In 1928, my grandfather notes in a letter to his brother that David Studley b 1748 & Ruth Damon Studley m 1772 in Chesterfield and had 2 sons Asabel & Jonathan and 1 daughter Lydia, but according to my recent search they had 6 children, Asabel, Jonathan, David, Ichabod, and daughhters Ruth & Loice or Lois. I have just begun to search the Studley side of my family. I am certain that David married Ruth Damon in 1772 in Chesterfield. In 1800 David has 2 sons 10-16 and 1 daughter living with he & his wife in Chesterfield. They move on to Moore NY later. This isn't much help to you I am afraid. Jeanette

I'm not sure why her name was changed. I found a name change record for Sarah in the year of her birth. My guess is adoption, but I do not know the reason. Albert had just got out of the service, during the Civil war, and his wife must have been 17 when Sarah was born.
Just found your message from nearly 3 years ago. Yes, I would like to know the exact death dates of Fred and Effie. If have two dates of marriage, so perhaps you know the correct one. The IGI gives their marriage date as November 19, but the History of Hanover, p. 390, gives November 21, 1875. I think they had three children: Fred A. (who married Garaphelia Wilder and is related to me), Jennie A., and Ray B. Which child do you descend from? Because Garaphelia's mother was an AYLING, they are in my AYLING FAMILY HISTORY that I published about 5 years ago. Do you happen to live near Hanover? Please contact me at cfkroeger@yahoo.com.......Thanks, Carol

Elizabeth Studley of Shropshire married Rev Thomas Lewis, a magistrate for the county of Brecon, and Deputy-Lieut. of Carmarthen, Rector of Penboyr, county of Brecon. I don't know anything else about Elizabeth Studley, not even the date for this marriage, it would have been in the late 1700's

Anybody know of the Studley family in Shropshire?

All help and suggestions would be appreciated.
