I accidentally found your post. I may be able to help. My mother was Irene eudora Sturgeon born to Thomas chesterSturgeon and flossie muriel shepard in Cedar Rapids Iowa. The old child kathyrn died in infancy. James Francis eugend Sturgeon wass the oldest Brother, then my mom. Thomas chester Sturgeon jr ws the youngest.
Pam, I read gave you some informaition. She is my cousin who is a few months older than I. My birth name was nancy Rene' bakehouse.
There used to be large Sturgeon reunions in Illnois.
My father passed asway recently and my sisters are shorting throew pictures that include many Sturgeon photos- old ones!
We used to have a several hundred year old family bible. I believe it burnt in a fire. I don't kno wif you know that two Sturgeon brothers were kicked out of Wales of being naughty. My late sister Kathryn found the rocrds of the brotheres landing in James town very early in american or new world history. the story passsed on to me was that they nealy died. Had to live in trees because they didn't know how to surve. the peopel native to this land around what the english named jamestown rescued the boys. the chief was phohaton(misspelled) the father of the famous Pochohauntus. the boys married into that tribe and were well cared for. Look up hte Jamestown shup records and your will find the Sturgeon boys.
later when thier children's boy got older they were so roudy they got kicked out of Illinois and went to Ca.You should find some 1800 records in Ca. We don't know what happened to athryn research afet she died. We are looking inot it. ithink if y=we find it you will enjoy it.
malikabourne2@gmail.com

I do hope that some one can assist as it's a very difficult process to find and prove. Where does your family originate from? I wish you luck.
Hi, not sure if you still look into this, but my grandmother was Verna Sturgeon and her and Edgar(my g'pa) had more than two children. Vera Sturgeon was my mom who passed in 1998. I am Native but from a different tribe. However we (my sibs) have been told of other native blood in us, but still not sure which tribe to be exact.
Hope to hear back
Tina White

Hi Jeff.

My Ancestry Line of the Sturgeon's entered America in the mid 1700's and entered through Philadelphia. They scattered throughout the New England States and my Ancestry Line lived in Dauphin County Pennsylvania. They also moved to Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. My Line starts with Samuel Sturgeon (Propositus), 1680-1740, born in Ireland and passed in Lower Paxton Twp., Dauphin, Pennsylvania. Good luck. Larry Dean Sturgeon

The picture you have of Edgar may have my grand mother too. If you have anything you could share I would be so grateful.
My mom "Audery" told me that she too had seen pictures of Indian relatives of the Sturgeons.
Simpson V. Sturgeon (1833-1916) and Zelda Stripe were friends. You might say they were very good friends because when Selda died she left her entire estate to him. Real estate valued ar $4500.00 and personal property valued at $500.00. Zelda designated Simpson as the executor of her estate. See "Lancaster Daily Eagle", Page #1, Col. #5, dated 05 JAN 1915. Hope this helps. Simpson V. Sturgeon was never married.

My Father was Robert Lowell Sturgeon, Sr.; his Father was Roy Allen (or Alen, Allan, Alan) Sturgeon, b. Oct. 10, 1894, who was a river boat captain on the Kanawah River. someone in the family has a newspaper article noting him as such. We understand his Father was Lewis Kosuth Sturgeon, b. May 3, 1852, Mother--Nancy Jane Genevieve Mitchell; his Father was John Sturgeon, b. 176?, of Sewell Mountain, Fayette County, WVA. This is as far as I have gotten, I believe. So, if the area name changed, the folks were in the area with the latter name, then they could be related to your James and John?

Thanks Larry. I don't have a Facebook page. The Myrtle Sturgeon, 13, is my grandmother. The story we were always told abt Miles was that he was a traveling circuit preacher, but we know nothing else abt him. I have the 1910 OK Census with him living with his oldest son and with Myrtle, his only daughter. He died in 1923 in Stigler, OK.

Darlene

Thank you. Appreciate the response. If you have a Facebook page look up Sherry Clark, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and also Susan Sturgeon Williams of Colorado, they are sisters. They are from the Iowa and Oklahoma Sturgeon's and may be able to assist. They are two great ladies. I have found info on a Miles Sturgeon via Ancestry.com born in Kentucky, living with the Ungers in Camp Creek, Pike, Ohio as a farmers hand at the age of 19. In 1910 widowed at the age of 59 and living in Stigler Ward 1, Haskell, Oklahoma with Arthur,26, Ellen, 25, Lavona, 3
and Myrtle Sturgeon, 13. If you need further assistance with Miles please let me know. Larry Dean Sturgeon, Formally: Washington, Daviess, Indiana, (Springhill, Hernando, Florida.)
Hi there, I realize this post is a few years old but thought i'd give it a shot anyways, I'm trying to track my family history. From what I know Sturgeon is the name given to my great grandfather by the government at some point, he was Chief Raincloud, was Ojiway, from Ontario Canada, travelled to the states as a preacher. Any of this sound familiar?
