You are welcome. So far my lines go back into Sible Hedingham - just need to confirm the birth of John SUCKLIN or SUCKLING a Blacksmith of Sible H. Think he may have been the son of Joseph SUCKLING also a blacksmith.

Daniel is not too commmon a name in the SUCKLING families so hopefully we will come across it. Lots of the Wethersfield Sucklings were non conformists so it is possible you may find them in the non conformist church records.

My ancestory membership may lapse for a little while so if you want to contact me, please use the email below.

Regards
Sheila
Email: sheilaAjones@sky.com

Hi Shelia,
Thanks for looking. I have searched through parish records on Essex Ancestors for all the surrounding villages as well but have found nothing. If however, you do find anything at any time, please let me know.
Out of interest, which Suckling lines are you researching? Maybe I can help you out. My paternal grandmother was a Suckling. She was one of nine children and they were born at Beazley End Essex.
Thanks again.

Ann Sophia Suckling, Limehouse to Broken Hill

Hello

I'm interested in information on Ann Sophia Suckling (1861 -1936) daughter of Robert (1828 - 1884) and Frances Alexander (1827 - 1898). She married Gusta Alf Davis in Bromley in 1878 and they had one daughter, Dora Sophia Davis born 1880 in Poplar.

I can't find trace of Gusta Alf Davis after the 1881 census, and he was a ship's carpenter, so perhaps he died at sea? And no trace of Ann Sophia or Dora in the UK after the 1881 census. Dora married in Broken Hill in 1905, so between 1881 and 1905, mother and daughter emigrated to Australia. I can't find record of that (there are lots of Davis in the passenger list), and I'd love to find out what happened to Gusta Alf. His name is odd, but he is on file with that name, though sometimes he's called just Alf.

Anyone know what happened? Thanks.

1818
Banns of marriage between Daniel Suckling Batchelor and Sarah MITSON spinster both of this parish (Wethersfield)were published three Sundays viz, May 24th, 31st and June 7th, 1818 and no impediment alledged. John Atkinson.

So both of the parish of Wethersfield.

Did have a quick look in Toppesfield baptism but records not very clear due to watermarks on pages.
Also went back to 1782 in Wethersfield and not yet found there either.

Will keep trying to find him and let you know.

Regards
Sheila
Researching SUCKLIN/SUCKLING in Essex.

Shirley M. Suckling, 86,born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late Harry M. and Susan McVey.

Altoona, PA ,

Shirley M. Suckling
April 28, 1925 - Jan. 26, 2012
Shirley M. Suckling, 86, Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully Thursday at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Hollidaysburg,
daughter of the late Harry M. and Susan McVey. She married the love of her life, Paul W. Suckling Jr., on July 3, 1943. She loved his brown eyes from the moment they met and was his beloved wife for 69 years. He cared for her with the help of their granddaughter, Kjerstyn McVeigh and her son, Frederick.
Surviving are three beloved sons: Paul W. III, Dennis and Dale; six beloved grandchildren: Jeffrey, Stacy and Brian Suckling, Kjerstyn McVeigh and Garrett and Jessica Socling; eight wonderful great-grandchildren; two brothers: Raymond McVey and Norman (Beverly) McVey; and two sisters: Betty McVey and Ruth Fay.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin McVey; and a sister, Marjory Moudy.
Shirley will be remembered by all who knew her for her cheerful, optimistic and loving nature. She loved traveling with her husband, playing cards, writing letters to family and friends, her pig collection, cooking and most of all, little children. She will be dearly missed by all.
At the request of the family, there will be no public memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Shirley's name to North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ
London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921
Confirms marriage of William and Eliza (MILES) in 1847 and his Father was John SUCKLING a tailor (still alive at time of marriage) and her Father was Thomas MILES a carpenter.

Take a look at the address of William in this document and see if you can find a John Suckling living thereabouts in the 1841 census on Ancestry.

Otherwise search for all John SUCKLING's with the occupation of Tailor in the 1841 and 1851 census which will give you some idea of where John may have lived and of his own family.

William and Eliza (nee Miles) spent their married life in Croydon, Surrey. He was a Master Tailor. In the 1851 Census it shows a Henry Wm. MILES brother so obviously brother of Eliza living with the family.

If you already have the marriage certificate does it show William's Father's name and his occupation. The occupation is very important as there are hundreds of John SUCKLINGs.

Regards
Sheila
Hi,
I noticed you were inquiring after Albert Edward Parker.
Albert came out to Australia to live with my parents John and Olga Graham on their farm at Colac in Victoria. He lived with us for some years before passing away in 1976 at Colac Hospital aged 90 years.

I understand Albert came to Australia after the death of his wife Elizabeth.
I'm trying to find the connection between Albert and my maternal Grandmother Kate Llewellyn from Herefordshire. Kate Llewellyn was the mother of my mother Olga Llewellyn Hodgson.
My mother with her brother John grew up at Grantham Hall, Lincombe Drive, the same address of Albert.

I'd very grateful for any light you could shed on Albert.
I know he was one of 13 boys and his father I believe was a Land Surveyor who moved the family to Canada before returning to England at the onset of WW2.
Anne

Dear Joan,
Since Frederick was 52 at the time of his second marriage, you can now follow him back to about 1881 when he was born. I found a Frederick John SUCKLING born in Romford Registration District in 1881 and a marriage to an Elizabeth DRISCOLL in 1923. She would have to have died between 1923 and 1933 for F J Suckling to be a widower. I also checked for any children surname SUCKLING born between 1923 - 1933 with the mother's maiden name of DRISCOLL. They were all born in Romford Reg District. If this rings any bells with you, I can point you to the records I researched in order to find this information. Regards Sheila Jones
Suckling Researcher in Essex,East London and Suffolk

Dear Joan

Do you have the marriage certificate for Caroline GODDARD and Frederick J. SUCKLING? If so what was his occupation?
There are lots of Frederick Suckling's in the Census and so his occupation would help narrow down the possibilities.

Regards
Sheila
Hi Elizabeth, (Ilford62)

Do you have any connection with my gt grandmother's 2nd husband, he was Frederick Suckling. My gt grandmother was Caroline Goddard (nee Howlett) b. 1874. She was first married to Alfred Goddard, who died about 1916, in Barking, Romford, Essex. Then in Oct/Nov/Dec, 1933, she married Frederick Suckling, in Romford. Caroline Goddard, lived with her husband, Alfred Goddard and children, Winifred, (married name Wright, then Hattley), Florence (married name Hubbard), Emma Elizabeth (married name Bones), Mary (married name Fisher), Alfred, and Albert. They all lived as a family, in Barking, Essex. 1911 census, states, they were living at 5 Orchard Avenue, Heath Rd (nr the gas works). Do you have any connection or know any names of my relatives. I noticed that your message board name is ILFORD62, do you come from this area? I would be very grateful for any help. Many thanks.
Joan Harvey (nee Hands)
from Erith, Kent

Well done. If he was born in England, then the marriage certificate may give some indication of that fact.

I have a Tasmanian Directory for the 1867-1868 and there are two SUCKLING males listed but no Samuel but then he would have been only 16 or 17.

Tasmanian Directory
SUCKLING George, Clarence Plains Clarence
SUCKLING Joseph, farmer, Don, Port Sorell
