I have been searching for many years for any info on my Grandfather ( my fathers father) George W. Green. I have never met him and my Mom cannot ever remember meeting him either. The only info I have is sketchy. It says he was born in Bainbridge NY between 1880 and 1890. His parents were John Green (b.in USA),and Julia Wood (b.in England.)
He married Mary Matthews (b.in Illinois) in 1917 in Troy, NY. Could this possibly be the family you are speaking of in your post? .......thank you

This is in reply to all the people who are waiting for Sudbury research promised earlier. I am back in business and have completed Suffolk and Norfolk (I think).
Not much new in Suffolk but the Norfolk start to the London line is disproved in part. The marriage of William to Ann Ellis in 1732, definately correct, did not produce the next generation! All their children died in infancy unless more were born somewhere else or William married again. Even so the Samuel who DID start the following lines would have been too old to have been of that family. This info is for the Hand Sudburys who followed on later. Next Counties are Essex including Halstead and then London. Veronica

You may be related to the lady who took some modern pics for me of churches etc last time around. She was married but retained her Sudbury maiden name. We had lots of exchanges but I have not heard from her for some years.
I have detailed records of all the Sudburys from a William who married in 1730, I think. All records are packed away at the moment prior to imminent visit from grandchildren.
When they have gone, I intend to re-start work and will be striving to finish editing and revising previous work this winter. Please keep this thread going until I can answer your queries also those of other correspondents who recently posted replies to my request. Thank you all Veronica Etchells

Hi

I and two of my cousins have been researching the family history and have gone back to about 1730 in Norwich with Samuel Sudbury. Our line went around the south of the UK via Daniel Sudbury ending up in London. Much of my line is in west London and Middlesex.

Interested in more? Or have we already been in touch?

Peter Sudbury

Thankyou for answering my request. Yes I have Reading Sudburys as I am, in fact, researching ALL Sudburys in the U.K. and a few in Salt Lake City.
Last time I did it by counties and Reading and the very near Home Counties were included in the chapter on London. At the moment there is a pause in work due to home committments but I am set to begin again in October. I will print out your message and file it and may contact you again when I start on the new London chapter.

Ten years ago, wihout the aid of a computer, I researched most of the English Families headed by a Sudbury. I also skimmed over the U.S.A. ones.
Now with a computer and all the recently available info on Census and BMD's, I have spent two winters trying to sort out errors and ommissions and propose to re-write the book in the new year. It will be, as the previous one, only for the family, but any one is welcome to a separate chapter for their County of origin. This time only the UK ones, as others have done the New World.
I would be delighted to hear from any one who wrote last time or is a member of the main families from Halstead, Ilkeston, London via Norwich or Liverpool.
Hi Debbie
I've just rejoined Ancestry and seen your post...
Are you still trying to find out more information about the Hobsons & Sudburys?
I am a direct descendent of Mary Hobson and Charles Alan Sudbury - they were my great grandparents.
Mary and Charles had 3 children, Irene, Malcolm and Margaret. Margaret Sudbury was my grandmother. She married James Stewart, and they had one child, my mother.
We have managed to trace quite a lot of the family tree on both the Sudbury side (including Harry Tatham Sudbury), and on Mary Hobson's side - not so much the Hobsons, but the Grammers (Mary's mother's family).
I'd love to hear from you to find out where you fit in!
Kind regards,
Cathy

In researching I have only stumbled across 2 children from this marriage, Edward Charles (b 1912 d 1979 in Blackpool) and his older sister Eileen Muriel (b 1909, not sure when she died). At the time of Edward Charles' death she was unmarried and living at the same address. Do you know of any other children?
Alison

Hi Sue,

Yes I think young Edward is my family...or the one who married into my family. I believe in 1891 the father Edward Sudbury was in a sanitorium, listed as a retired coal merchant. He reappears with Martha and son Edward in the next census. I am mostly curious if there are any living children/grandchildren of young Edward and his wife Ida still around. Sudbury is a much nicer/easier name to research than Taylor!

Thanks
Alison

She was born Chesteron, Staffs.

is this your family?

SueS

Hi, My wife (a direct Sudbury descendant) and I are trying to contact anyone connected to the Sudbury and Tatham families in Ilkeston and later Nottingham who were related to the two Sudbury's who both the 'Mayor of Ilkeston' around 1890/1910. We are looking to fill a few blanks in our tree and also help other Sudbury's with their ancestors. We have found lots of information, have visited houses/factories in Ilkeston as well as the cemetries where a number of the Sudbury's rest. I hope that we can find some more information through this site and contact some distant relatives. We intend to publish our tree at some point.
Regards,
Phil.

Dear Madam,
my name is Lawrence Sudbury and I live in Milan Italy. As my parents divorced when I was very young I don't know much about my English roots. All I know is that my father's name is (was?) John Francis Sudbury, son of Patrick and Dorothy Sudbury and brother of Claire, Jane and Patricia Sudbury, living in Forest Hill - London at the end of the 60s. My mother (Italian, Silvana Asti) told me my family was from Ilkeston area. Unfortunately that's all I know as I haven't heard from my father in last 36 years (I'm 38). Do you know anything more which could help me tracing my origins? Thank you very much, Lawrence

I do not have an Ezekial on my trees. The other two who left for the U.S.A were Sudbury women who were married so were no longer known as Sudbury's. My line is descended from Christopher Sudbury , Samuel and Mary Sudbury, Eward and Ann Sudbury and Mary Sudbury and William Ward.

Hi Susan, I don't have anything on my trees which links Samuel John Sudbury to Carlton. Are you related to Robert or to Samuel? Samuel was my g.mother's gt. uncle and also a cousin as her g.father md. Ann Johnson Sudbury - Samuel's sister, they were also 1st. cousins. I know quite a bit about the family and Samuel's emigration to Utah if you need any info. about them. Samuel's bro. Edward moved to Scotland. There are links to London, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and the Egmanton area of Notts. His sister Mary and family emigrated with him. There were two more lines of the family who went to the U.S.A. Jenny.
