Ethel is my paternal great-grandmother. I am looking for the rest of her family. As the family story goes, Ethel was "adopted" by William & Mary Reiniker (or Raniker). I know she had a large number of siblings but can't find that name. Can anyone help please?

Suitor genealogy is still sketchy. I uploaded as many Suitor names as possible. There is a huge cache of Suitor entries to ancestry.com that are still alive. Let's dig deeper and find out about the patriarch who died en route and how the family survived.

If I had looked a little closer at the Wheeler Grove cemetery listings, I would have been able to answer all but one of my questions. Two sons of Mary Jane & J.P.H. Suitor are listed:
William 11/16/1849 - 9/19/1856
James A.W. 10/28/1851 - 9/23/1856

Along with their mother, Mary Jane, all three died within 9 days of each other. Does anyone know what happened?

I may have found an answer to one of my own questions. There is a Mary Jane Suitor listed in the Wheeler Grove cemetery in Alcorn County, MS (Alcorn County, MSGENWEB). The only date listed is 9/28/1856. John P.H. Suitor is also buried in this cemetery. If 1856 is Mary Jane's date of death, it fits with John's marriage to Elizabeth Garrett in 1857.

John Payne Hensley Suitor - 2 Wives - Both Named "Mary"???

Is it possible that J.P.H. Suitor (1820-1883) was married twice - both times to ladies named "Mary"?

All of the data that I have collected connects me back to Mary Elizabeth Garrett (1839-1895). She was the daughter of John Marshall Garrett & Martha "Patsy" Gamble. J.P.H. Suitor and Mary Garrett were married 10-23-1857. John Suitor would have been 36 when he married Mary....kind of old for a first marriage.

While searching for census data on J.P.H. Suitor, I found him living with his parents - James and Mary (Hensley) Suitor in Tishomingo Co, Mississippi, in 1850. Listed below him in the census are what appear to be a 19 year-old wife named Mary and a 1 month-old son named William. The only problem with this being Mary Garrett is that she would have been only 11 years old in 1850. Also, she was born in South Carolina and this "Mary" lists NORTH Carolina as her place of birth.

I have seen other family trees that list a Mary Jane Martin (1829-1858) as the wife of J.P.H. Suitor - with a date of marriage of 1/25/1849. While these dates correspond roughly to those of the "Mary" listed in the 1850 census, her death year (1858) overlaps the 1857 marriage date that I have for J.P.H. Suitor and Mary Garrett.

Given that the dates may not be absolutely correct, is possible that there were two "Mary's"? If so, what happened to the the first Mary and her son, William?

Mike Scobee

Would be grateful for any info on the family of Jacob Suiter (Suitor Soeter
Suter) b1825 Germany & Caroline b 1827 Germany. They are found in the 1880
Lockport NY census with children: George, Jacob, Adam. The 1870 Lockport census
has Caroline Suiter & children but not spouse Jacob. 1850 has a Jacob
Soeter 26. Can't find them on the 1860 census. I am especially interested
in knowing if the Eliza Suitor b1845 (with parents from Prussia) who married
Curtis Abel Brewer of Marilla (Wales), Erie Co, NY is the daughter of Jacob
& Caroline. Perhaps the 1855 or 1865 census would have this family.
Thanks.
Bob Foran - CT

Curtis Abel Brewer b.27 Oct 1841. Died 21 Mar 1928. "Prussia" on the census images refers to the country of Prussia and therefore Europe. Many of the Brewers migrated to St. Clair Co., Michigan in the 1840's. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I am looking for Suitors from the Corinth Ms. area. My greatgrandparents were John Madison and Elizabeth Carter Suitor and they came to Arkansas from Ms. in the late 1880's. Their children were Frank, Walter, Ruth, Charley, and my grandmother, Ida. My granny had told me that her parents were from Corinth Ms. but that she didnt know much about her family. My grandmother had a first cousin also named John who settled in Arkansas. Any info on my ancestors would be greatly appreciated.

This is an update to my previous posting. Kate was actually Catherine Sims, d/o William Sims & Dorothy Danner. She was born about 1850 in Madison Township, Jackson County, OH. Between 1860 and 1870, she was married since she is on the 1860 census with her parents but not on 1870 with them.

It is possible she was first married to a John Bergland (Burglin). In some recently information, Suitor was listed as Soutter.

Anyone with information, please e-mail me directly or post a reply message. I am willing to share information.

Shena M. David

? Suitor married to Kate Hendrick/Hendricks/Hendrix or Burglin

Hello. I am wondering if anyone has information on a man named Suitor who married Kate Hendrick. Her last name could have also been spelled Hendricks or Hendrix and it is possibly she had been married before to a Burglin. She was the sister of my great-great-grandmother, Winnie Hendrick-Hufford. Kate and her sisters were probably born in Lafayette (around Wellington or Napoleon) or Ray County (around Richmond or Orrick). Other siblings include Louisa, Sarah, Becky, and "Sis".

I do not have much information on Kate and the last name of the man she married was given to me by her niece, Velma Hufford-Karow (my great-greataunt). If anyone recognizes these individuals, please e-mail me or post a reply message.

Shena M. David

Greetings,
We are related. Most likely distant cousins. Four families came from Londonderry, Northern Ireland to the St. Sylvester/Leeds area in 1833. They came because free land was available. Two of the four were brothers Thomas (your branch) & James. Two others were most likely cousins David(my branch) & Robert. The book is out of print, but I will be glad to fax you parts of it - just give me a fax #.
I will be heading up to Vermont in mid-June & plan to visit some of my Suitor cousins in July. They have a summer home in Que.
Have a great day!
Frank

The following data is from the book "Some Suitor Families of Canada and the United states of America" written by Ruth Suitor Miller and published in 1987 by Ward Publishing Company of Asheville, North Carolina:

Alexander was born about 1845 in St. Sylvester, Quebec. He was the son of Thomas Suitor and his wife Esther (Miller) who came to St Sylvester in 1833 from Northern Ireland with their baby daughter Elizabeth born in 1833.
Elizabeth married Thomas White on 13 December 1858 and they had a daughter Esther White born on 20 September 1859 in St. Sylvester. She was raised by her uncle Alexander and was listed as part of his family.
Esther married James Smith and the settled in Caledonia County, Vermont. Her mother Elizabeth came to live with Esther and is listed in the US census in 1900. Hope this will help you.
Frank Suitor (813) 651-1378

I wonder if any of your Suitors may be related to mine? This name shows up in my Casey ancestors. Nellie Saddoris married my g grandfather.Logan Casey. Her parents were Charles Saddoris and Charlotte Suitor, as near as I can understand. Logans sister, Della Casey, married a Benjamin Suitor, in Clinton County Iowa U.S.A. in7 Dec. 1892. The same year as Logan Nellie married. I do not know of any offspring of Della Benjamin, but I know Logan Nellie moved to alberta, (prairie) in l906.Please e-mail me if you think there may be a connection. thanks---Gail

I don't know at this time the exact connection to Geo. Cy Suitor, but I know we are related, I have been to his grave site in Duncan, Okla. Several years ago I visited with 4 or 5 women who were mostly Suitors by marriage there in Duncan and I have a picture one of them gave me of Geo. One of these days I'm going to try to figure that connection out. I think Geo was probably a lst cousin of my grandfather, Robert Lee Suitor who came from Corinth, Ms and inded up at Granite, Ok.
