I would love to know where my grandfather's grandfather Summerfield J TOOKER (1846-1920) got the first name of Summerfield. It's a lovely name and I'm wondering if my gggGrandparents [Ezra Eldridge TOOKER b 1812 and wife Clarissa JAYNE b 1822] plucked it from the air or from a connected family.

This is just a shot in the dark with the hope that someone makes a connection.

TOOKER, STEVENS, JAYNE, ELDRIDGE, KETCHAM, CRABB, SMITH, RYDER

Frederick John Summerfield 1905 - ? (Battersea, London)

Hi

I am trying to find out any information regarding Frederick John Summerfield (my great great uncle), born 3rd quarter of 1905 in Wandsworth London to Charles Henry Summerfield and Maria Attfield. He was baptised on 6th September 1905 in Battersea London and in 1911 was living with his family at 24 Havelock Terrace, Battersea London. The last information I have for him is his signature as a witness to the marriage of my grandparents in Tooting on 29th July 1939.
I have checked marriages and deaths and also CWGC for WW2 deaths but to no avail.
Many thanks

Judi

Hi
Yes Alfred summerfields mother was Eliza Brown born in s
St Pancras London in abt 1848. She was the daughter of a boot/shoe maker John Brown born Abt 1828 in St pancras and I think her mother was called Sarah Eliza. The confusion is that she was married before her marriage to william John Summerfield on 16 Dec 1878. Her first marriage was to (James) Henry Coleman on 21 oct 1867 in chelsea London and she had 3 children - ellen eliza Coleman, caroline elizabeth Coleman and james frederick Coleman.
sorry not a member at present if you contact me via messages can send you pics of Eliza, presume you have the one of Alfred in uniform and explain how i relate to the Summerfields

I just started looking for an ancestor George Roper Summerfield (I'm not a direct descendant though). Robert J. Matthews married my gr. grandmother's sister Annie Maria Matthews and their daughter Velna Matthews married Geo. Roper Summerfield. Charles E. Summerfield is George's (and his brother Wilfred Charles) father. Charles E. Summerfield married Emily Roper around 1900. Emily Summerfield is buried (along with Wilfred and George Roper Summerfield and a couple of infants) in Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria, BC. I recently located Wilfred's grave but I have yet to find George Roper Summerfield's in there. It's a huge cemetery!
Jacquie

Re: Christina Summerfield & Martin Roy m.1845 in VA-WV, to IL-KS-MO later

I was happy to stumble upon your post. Previously, I did not know the maiden name of the wife of Martin Roy, and had never given much thought to finding it. I am a descendant of Thomas and Anna (Raines) Sumemrfield.
Having studied this, I now have no doubt that Christina was the second daughter of Thomas and Anna (Raines) Summerfield. I knew they had a daughter born 1820-5, who was living with them in the 1830 and 1840 Censuses, but gone by 1850. Of course, this fits perfectly with Christina, who was likely born 1824. In fact, there really is no other Summerfield family in the area to whom she could belong. The only other possible candidates would be David and Jemima (Skidmore) Summerfield. They had a dau. born 1820-25, but she was still living with them in 1850, and her name was Rachel----so that eliminates the David Summerfield family. In fact, Christina's placement in the Thomas Summerfield family is further supported by the fact that martin and Christina would be 1st cousins, and Martin's brother Washington married Christina's sister, Sarah. Washington and Sarah reportedly married in 1845 also, and like Christina, there is no surviving public record of it. I wonder if they had a double ceremony? and yes, George Raines was a minister in the Pendleton Co., WV area; he was a cousin to Anna (Raines) Summerfield.

Jeff Carr
Palmyra, VA

I know that you are related (somehow) to John Sharp's family. he was born in 1802/1803 Maulden, Beds by 1861 he lived at the New Inn, Clophill, Maulden, Beds married to Sarah. The 1861 Census shows 2 children - Barbara and George. He must have had at least one other child who was the parent of John's grandson Philip Edmunds Sharp (B 1955 Apthill) as both Barbar and George are too young to be Philips parent - can you help with an y family history???

Hi, My grandfather in-law, John Charles Summerfield, we think, came to Canada between 1879 or 1880. He settled around Hamilton and married in 1883 and on the license his father is listed as James and his mother as Ann. Stated he came from Manchester, England. We don't know his mother's maiden name therefore it is hard to get other information. Does this sound as if it is someone in your line?
Thank you,
Joan Summerfield
Hi

John 1816 appears on the 1851/1861/1871 census. He married Mary Ann Leggatt (b1817) and they lived in Horsham, Sussex. I descend from their daughter Maria (b1844) who was an unwed mother and had her child Charles (b1863) in the Union Workhouse in Horsham. I have lots more information but unfortunately most of it is on Genes Reunited and I haven't transferred it over to Ancestry yet. Should you like any further information on the Summerfields just let me know.
Regards

Hi Yes I believe so, with great difficulty found William J Summerfield's parents William Summerfield 1822 born Horsham Sussex and Frances unknown born Brighton according to 1861 census as they were living in Bond Street Lambeth then, like later generation.
I have also seen 1841 census for William Summerfield born 1822 living in Horsham Sussex with mother Charlotte born abt 1786. IGI confirm wedding of James Summerfield to Charlotte Shaw in Horsham Sussex on 11 Sept 1804.
So looks like this is the same family. Which census is John 1816 on?
Regards

I live in Chatham, Ontario, Canada and my great, great, grandfather(Henry) arrived in Canada between 1872 and 1874. I will look up the exact date. His father was James who had a brother John.
Ken,

Ralph William SUMMERFIELD's mother's maiden name was SCRACE. Alfred SUMMERFIELD and Elizabeth M. SCRACE married in Wandsworth in 1914; the above info I found on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com . If you buy a copy of the marriage certificate, this will give you the name of Alfred's father.

Alan
