Re: Pennsylvania Sweeney's

Have been working on the Sweeny family for years. Alot of brick walls. I recently found my Gr. Grandmother Anna Sweeney's marriage record. She married John McCormick August 28, 1889 in Finleyville Pennsyvania. I thought at first the one giving permission for her to marry was her father. John Sweeney. A pursuit of John Sweeney as father produced her birth record and birts of some siblings, all born in South Shields, Durham, England. Those birth records gave mother and father as Joannis Sweeney and Anna Malis (melis). No immigration records found for these two. There is alot of years between births of siblings.
Joannis Sweeney Jr born first November 05, 1863
Antonius Sweeney April 29, 1867
Anna SweeneyJuly 10, 1869
Michaelis Sweeney July 08, 1873
These spaces indicate the possibility that others born did not have births recorded.
A search of all these siblings find none who immigrated to the US. But neither Anna or brother John show up in immigration records thus far.

I did find a possible 1881 england census that shows a possible Joannis Sweney a widow. If this is in fact Anna's father then perhaps the one in her marriage record that gave consent for her to marry was her brother.

Does anyone have any of these names in their tree? I am stumped now and do not know where to look. To date no death records in the US have turned up for persons with these names. Have also looked into the Americanized version of names. In Pennsylvania Anna and the John who provided consent were residing in Findleyville PA. Nothing in the census yet on either.....
Thanks
Cheryl

I am looking for the ancestry of a Mary/Marie/Maria Sweeny/Sweeney who married a Moses Webb between 1812 and 1826 in Columbia Co.PA which previously was Northumberland Co. I think the county name changed in 1813. Moses was a vet of the War of 1812 who received a federal land grant in 1826 in Wayne Co. OH where they then moved. Both died in OH. Marie was born about 1795. Moses was the son of Samuel Webb who was the son of John Webb and Mary Boone.
Don Forrer

If you might be related please contact me so this can be returned to the family. All I would ask is that you pay for postage. Tim

John H Sweeney and Anna.

I am looking for information on John H Sweeney, and I think that Anna's last name was Carroll. They show up in the 1885 census in Iowa, but I am not sure if Anna went by Abigail also because the woman living with John is listed as Abigail in this census. Other census information for them is mostly in Wisconsin then In South Dakota. John was born in 1855-1857 in Wisconsin. Anna was born in 1848 in Canada, and in one census it shows that they were married in 1895. I am very confused with this line...their children were Mary, James, Joseph, Cecelia, Martha and Sarah. Any help or direction would be appreciated!

Hull South married Rachel Swansy on 17 Sep 1800	in Grayson County, Virginia. Found on Familysearch.com. First South's of the correct ages in Grayson show up in 1820 (Stephens South). From trees on Ancestry it looks like Hull comes from NJ. There is a large Hull family in Sussex, NJ. There are several trees for him and Rachel Sweeney. One tree says she dies Jan 1827, the same as her daughter Peggy. Another daughter is Martha South who might be the one who marries John Lundy in Grayson in Feb of 1827. Martha and John are in the 1880 Grayson census. Both her parents are from NJ. In 1910 there is an 90 year old Martha living in Grayson, but a tree says she dies in NC in 1897.

Dear Kathy,

Due to how common the Sweeney name is in Ireland, it might be possible that we could be related. Do you know where in Ireland your Sweeney family came from? Edward Sweeney came from Moangariff, County Tipperary, Ireland. However my family had separated itself from the rest of the family quite sometime ago, so I have no idea of the validity of the claim.

Here is the background info I have:
-Married Maria (Miriam) Kiley(Kiely/Kelly/Kirby) abt 1859
-Born 1837 in "Cashmore", Waterford, Ireland. Problem here is there doesn't seem to be a Cashmore. There is Clashmore, and in Donegal a Cashelmore.

I have found 3 birth records for Anthony Sweeney in Ireland. 2 in County Mayo, 1 in Waterford via Irish Family History Foundation website. I am looking for any information that could give me a little more confidence before making $7.50 commitment to see the record.
