My ancestors came from Stokesley, Yorkshire, England and Knaresbro Yorkshire, England. I am from Ontario Canada and I have found alot here for Sweeting's. If you would like to chat about our ancestors please email me at suzieq4002002@hotmail.com. Thanks Suzanne.

If you ever find where your Sweetings originated please let me know. I have traced my London/Essex England family back to 1748/9 and I know they were Traders and Merchants in the City of London before that in the 1600s, they also had dealings in PORT ROYAL Jamaica with the genuine Pirates of the Caribbean as well as the Bahamas but there are too many loose ends that I can't tie together.
Hi
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have not found the link that connects us, but there has to be one somewhere. I will keep looking and maybe you can see if you can find out if your Sweeting's came from England and if so what some of their names were. My tree is open on here so feel free to have a look and see if anyone matches with what you have found out. Thanks Suzanne

There must be a link somewhere in the distant past although there are several branches of Sweetings throughout the UK. My own branch is from Essex a county just to the EAST of London and although I live in UK I haven't been able to find a common ancestor for the various branches (far more than I ever imagined).

Jacob shows up in the 1800 Manlius Census and a Job in the 1810 Manlius census. Mary Sweeting married a Jacob Terrill. Her brother was Nathaniel Sweeting. Her Father was Lewis Sweeting. Does anyone have any information on the names of Mary's children?

Hello, I am hoping someone might be able to help in my search for JOSEPH SWEETING b. 1836 in Knaresborough.
His mother MARY SWEETING died within months of childbirth.
The 1841 Census, when he would have been five, does not show him living with his grandparents STEPHEN & DOROTHY SWEETING, who ran the Green Dragon Inn at Knaresborough, and one conclusion that could be drawn is that he was fostered out (there is no death certificate for him).
Certain factors point towards him becoming JOSEPH THEAKSTON (1836-1920), a significant figure in the commercial development of Ecuador in the late 19th century.
If anyone has any knowledge of the Sweetings of Knaresborough I would be more than delighted to hear from them.

Looking for Information on Thomas Sweeting

I'm seeking information about my 2 X Great Grandfather Thomas Sweeting. All I know is that his wife's name was Sarah, and that he was a Victualler (publican), they had three children Mary Ann baptized 10th April 1825 (Paul St, parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch). Thomas baptized 18th Nov 1827 (Kingsland Rd, West Hackney). and my Great Grandfather John Joseph baptized 14th Feb 1930 (Kingsland Rd, West Hackney). I have looked in the Trade Directory's and found a reference to a Sweeting running the The Swan in Upstall Row on Kingsland Rd in 1833 (Robsons London Directory) but in 1843/5 The Swan was then run by someone else. I have no information on Thomas's birth, marriage or death. If anyone has any information on Thomas Sweeting I would be most grateful.

Regards
Chris

I'm looking for imformation about my GreatGreat Grandfather John Joseph Sweeting, we believe that he was born abt 1845 in Tooting London. We have his marriage certificate, John was married to Alice Maude Fraser on the 22nd Sept 1894 in the Kingston district of Middlesex, Surrey. On the certificate it states John's age as 49 and his father was a Thomas Sweeting who was deceased but had been a Licensed Victualler. We believe that John was employed at the time as some kind of servant to a household. From what I've been told is that John died sometime in abt 1905 +/- 2yrs. I've tried searching for his birth but at present have drawn a blank.
Any information would be greatfully recieved.

If you visit your local library , they usually have free access to the ancestry records ,and you will be able to search for Dorothy Orgill born Dec 1893 , who married Thomas Sweeting in 1916 ,Emmanuel C born in 1923 and William in 1925 . The 1901 census will help find the rest of Dorothys family . free bmd shows no other Orgill children born in the right timescale If you ordered the marriage certificate though it would give the age for Thomas and his fathers name . good luck Gill

One further thing Jodie. IF you find that your Gdad's parents WERE THOMAS SWEETING and DOROTHY ORGILL married 1916 you can be sure that Thomas was born before 1901 so look on the 1901 Census for Thomas in L'pool that will tell you his age in 1901, his mother and father and any siblings plus where they lived. BTW did you know there is/was a Sweeting Street in L'pool, don't know where though. Cheers Anthony (Tony). Keep us posted on how you get on please.
