Hi my name is Roger Dewees. I live in fayette county, ohio and am researching my 3rd gr- grandmothers 2nd husband. His name is David Swigert. The information on him is very sparse. But I do have two letters passed down through the family, one during the Civil War, and the other dated 1856 that names Julia Ann Swigert Zepp from Martinsburg as his sister. Any info would be very much appriciated. Thanks

elizabeth married leonard white. they were living in east franklin twp. in 1840. two swigerts are also property owners there as well. leonard and elizabeth moved to cowanshannock twp. and are buried at slate hill cemtery near plumville pa. leonard was an elder of the cowanshannock dunker church. i have more info about eliz. and leonard if you are still interested.

my info is from my grgr grandfather, washington swiger born 1824 . i have been given info that his father was joseph swigart born in 1800. but i am sure all of us swigers are connected.

The pic I have is an anniversary in it is Solomon Swigart and his family and assorted unknown family members. I would love to see what you have as Michael Swigart had died before 1905 , Maybe there are some family traits that can bee seen by comparing the pictures

I have found two pictures that are identified as Michael Swigart. However, they are two different men. Jr or Sr it doesn't say which. Did you have any pics that you think are of our gggfathers? Or does the 1905 pic give any clues?

I am very interested in the Peter Swigart/Swigert family to see if there is a connection to my ggg-grandfather Jacob Swigart/Swigert who was born ca. 1824-26 in OH, county unknown. In 1849 he married Julia Ann Bubp in Greene County, OH. I am wondering if he could be a grandson of Peter Swigart. do you know of any of the descendants of Peter's children. Based on what I have read on the posts, I can rule out Peter's son Michael's line. Thanks for any help you can give.

You are a grandson of Lawrence Swigart? I am a grandson of Warren R. Swigart. We are second cousins. My name is Murphy Pepper and I live in Richmond, VA. I'm sure we've met at a function or two. My mother is Redella Swigart Pepper, only daughter of Warren. Orville was adopted, along with his baby sister, Zillah, by his mother's (also Zillah's) sister and her husband, named Swigart, after their mother died in childbirth with the youngest. Orville was born Miller, his father being Thomas Jefferson Miller; his mother's maiden name was Murphy and her father was John W. Murphy, from Virginia, I believe. Oddly, the middle child, Russell Miller stayed with T. J. Miller when the mother died in childbirth with little Zillah. Orville hated his adopted parents, especially his uncle / father. I still have family in Omaha and throughout Nebraska, and, obviously, Council Bluffs. My parents keep the records - would be great to get in touch. murphy_pepper@yahoo.com

muimal99 - I saw your post about Peter Swigart and his descendants; my husband is also a descendant of Solomon. We have NO pictures from the 1905 era and would be thrilled if you could scan and send it - or, if not, we would pay for your time and trouble to make a copy for us. The line I have been working on also comes from Peter Sr. to Michael Sr. to Michaels youngest son Solomon (Michael Jr. ) brother. I have a photo which I believe dates to 1905 on the back it says Swigart Anniversary. So far I have pegged a few people but there are many still unknown. Do yo know of any photos existing of Michael Jr.?

I don't have any photos prior to the children of John Peter Stewart (as adults). These would be grandchildren of Susan Swigart.

I have not much on your Michael -- only that he was born in 1787. If you want to send me a descendant report or GEDCOM or something that I can use, I'll be happy to put it in my database and (from there) to my web site.

Hi Susan's husband. My line comes down from Peter Sr. to Michael Sr.(John's brother) to Michael Jr. to Oscar to O. Jerome to my mother Marguerite, all Swigarts living in Greene Co. Ohio until my mother married and moved to Spfld,O. I am interested in finding any info about william and elizabeth Patterson, Oscar's mother, Hannah V.who had been married before to Jonathan Rike who died young in the civil war. Do you have any old pictures?

OK, my wife is Susan (born a Semler). Her father was Melvin Semler. His mother was Leah Stewart. Leah's father was John Peter Stewart. John's mother was Susan Swigart (1833 -1883). Susan's father was John Swigart, born in Pennsylvania, died 1847. John was a son of Peter Swigart, born in Germany, died in Greene County in 1839. You can see what I know about them on my web site:

I am responding to your post about the siblings of Michael Swigart, son of Peter Swigart, of Greene Co., Ohio. I am a 3rd great granddaughter of Michael Sr. According to a preserved newspaper article of an annual reunion in 1898, Michael (12/3/1785-2/1869) lived in Bellbrook, O. He had 4 bros and 1 sister. Peter and Jacob moved to Indiana, lived and died there. John died in Zimmerman, O. Henry died in the home of his sister, Mrs. Isaac (Susanna) Engle in Beavercreek Twp, Ohio. I hope this helps your search.

This is Carol Mitchell (Craig). My mom is Lillian Dear. I am also looking into our family history. I have some information but am just really getting started. Have you had any luck?
I think I have found Frank's father in Indiana but am having trouble finding his birth record in Pennsylvania.
I think I have had better luck with Bertha Stanton going back to Glover but I am still trying to verify what I have.

Do you know anything else about him? Clayton Leroy is a pretty unusual name.
I have a Clayton Leroy Sweigart, born in Pennsylvania. His parents were Henry Jacob and Emma Elizabeth (FUNK) SWEIGART. Clayton, born on 26 October 1924, was one of at least 12 children. Much of the family remained in the Liverpool area, in Perry County, Pennsylvania.
I don't have any information on his adult life, but if this sounds like it could be a match, just let me know!

sorry I didn't catch this before. My Julia Ann Swigart is the daughter of a John Swigart and wife Mary Wagner from PA born 3 Dec 1817 d 24 Mar 1903. I do have a brother of hers. That is all the information I have on her other than her's and Henry Zepp's descendants. Henry and Julia Ann are buried in the Green Hill Cemetery in Martinsburg, WV If you need any information I have I am more than willing to share and would like to be shared with. I am descended from Henry/Julia Ann their son, George/Mary Frances Burns/Zepp, their son James Clark/ Josephine Wiley Clemmons/Zepp and finally Ernest/Amelia Zepp/Shade/Thompson.

Swigart/Murphy information for Family Tree

I am trying to find out some information about my Great Grandfather. His name was Orville Swigart. But I am told that he was adopted. I was also told that his real last name was Murphy.

I was told that when I was a child, that we had several Swigart/Murphy family reunions. But I only remember one. The last one I remember going to was in the early to mid 80's, like 1980-1984, maybe earlier that that, but I do not remember for sure. Any way the last one I member was at a camping ground west of Omaha, Nebraska.

If anyone can help me get more information on the family of Swigart and Murphy I would greatly appreciate the help. In case you need more information Orville Swigart had a son named Lawrence O. Swigart. I am not sure but I believe that the "O" in my grand fathers name was for Orville. If I remember right, my mom said that her dad, Lawrence, middle name was after her grandfather Orville. My mom's name in case this helps is Carol (Swigart) Ray. My name is Ronald Lee Ray Jr. I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa, same as my mom, and grand parents (prier to their death).

Does anyone have information Jacob and Andrew Swigart who appear on the 1850 thru 1880 Census records for Jefferson County, Virginia/West Virginia. They are listed as being born in Pennsylvania. Andrew was born circa 1811, and Jacob circa 1814. A possible brother is Henry, who appears on the 1850 Census in the same location. Possible sister is Elizabeth Hill, wife of Benjamin Hill, b. circa 1813 in Pennsylvania. Any information regarding these individuals, where they were born, the names of their parents and other family members would be appreciated.

I am looking for information on my Grandmother. Her name was Lela Irene Swigart. She married Sherman Barr from Logan county. They lived in Pike county. They had two sons Max, and Jacob Lewis. Jacob was born July 21, 1905 in Lakeview Ohio. I believe Lela was the daughter of David Swigart and Irene Moody. Any information would be appreciated.
