Hello

My grandfather was William Swindells of Swindells Roofing St Helens and as my mother recalled was the brother to Sarah who did move away to marry in Scotland. My mother who's maiden name was Irene Swindells knew Sarah but callled her Aunty Sally but the families remained close during her childhood. I believe she used to read tea leaves and had a crystal ball !!!My grandfather William died in 1975 and my mother Irene married name Foy died in 2009, The family roofing business still thrives in St Helens. Sarah and William came from a big family with a brother Walter who I'm keen to trace emigrated to New Guinee in the 1920's after a family arguement- a few skeletons in the cupboard I think

I hope this is of use to you

Best wishes

Helen Lomax

if you search the marriage index at www.cheshirebmd.org.uk for 1915 you will see the reference of the civil marriage of Edward John Newton SWINDELLS to Alice WILDE/BADLEY. It looks like Alice was married before but it is not possible to tell which is the maiden name from the index.

Also on the index at Freebmd.rootsweb.com September quarter of 1915 volume 8a page 213.

Sues

Hi Lilian,

Perhaps you can help me here! I'm looking at Anne and Joseph's oldest son Joseph, born c 1836 who married Mary Raffles Bulley in 1859 and later her sister Agnes Amy Bulley in about 1907. Mary and Joseph had several children, some of whom died in infancy. Mary and Amy were my husband's g-g-aunts.

My mother-in-law died recently and in turning out her house we found a tiny box containing a lock of dark hair labelled "Anne Brookes 1887" (might be 1867. I'm wondering whether this might either be a daughter who died as a child (there was an Ann Brooke born in Macclesfield district in Sep quarter 1882) or if it might be Anne, Joseph's sister (born c 1839)

Can you throw any light on this?

Cheers

Catherine

My Sarah Swindells was born in Norbury and married Peter Gee in 1789 probably at Stockport, Saint Mary's. I am thinking that there is a person researching the Swindells from the area. Sarah had many cousins.
Please look at my tree
http://woodheadfamilytree.com
for what I have on my Sarah. There were also Swindells living with my Gee's, mostly as spinsters in the 1800's, in Romiley. I have some other information on the swindells in my file. I well post what I have if it will help.

Hi,

I have a lot of information on the Swindells, mostly from the late 1700's. I am in the United States ( Thank God for Obama) and don't know all the pubs. I do know some though and have a very nice map of Romiley. have you heard the name Gee? They lived on PoleAcre Lane, Greave Fold, and a lot in Werneth, but my great grandfather lived on Fern Street in Werneth. The Swindells and Gees were neighbors for many years in the PoleAcre Lane area.

Ruth
