I am looking for the Indian bloodline that was intwined with ours. I have told for years that the Swinney's have Indian blood, most likely Cherokee. I have the roll numbers from my mothers side but now from the Swinney side. If you have any ideas or knowledge of this, please let me know. My site is public should anyone need to check it out, witharound 1200 or so family so far. Thank You, Rev. Swinney

Researching some of the Swinney/Russom family.
What I have learned so for from the Swinney family in Abilene, TX and Census is that Lucinda Hill first married John M. Swinney in Wood Co., TX. Next she married Henry Asa Swinney in Wood Co., TX. Both died in Wood Co. Lucinda then married Theodore Russom and move to Taylor Co., around 1920. Cannot locate family in census for 1920. What I am looking for now is the burial cemetery for John Swinney and Henry Swinney in Wood Co. I am talking to Travis Swinney (72) in Abilene and he knows a lot about the Swinney family but doesn't know anything about his great grandfather and step one that died in Wood Co., TX. Any help would be appreciated.
Bart Williams. (I a not related, just a help in genealogy)

Lola Mont Swinney 1861 MS - 1952 TX

I am looking for information about Lola and her spouses. I believe she was married three times.

She was first married to Z C Poe, in 1876 in Mississippi. I would like to know where to find a marriage record.

Then, according to familysearch.org, Lola married John C Jones on 23 Dec 1900 in Bell County, Texas. I have a copy of an index for this microfilm although I need to get a copy. It shows a Mrs. Lola M Poe marrying a J O Jones. Then the 1910 census shows John C Jones and Lola Jones.

Then, her death certificate shows that she is Lola Mont Sanders, with father M. Swenny and informant was a Y B Mayfield. I believe Y B was her son-in-law. I found a Lola and W E Sanders in 1930 Texas, Jones County census. I have been unable to find either a marriage index or record for this marriage.

There is a photo of the headstone for Lola Mont Sanders on findagrave.com. According to the death certificate and this photo she was buried in Lazbuddie Cemetery in Friona or Anson Texas.

So, I am looking for marriage records for her first and third marriages. I am also trying to find out more info about Z C Poe, who I think is Zolliecoffer.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Karen

Hi, Amy,
Sorry to take so long to reply, but I haven't been checking the message boards in quite a while. Restoring a hundred year old farm house has gotten to be more time consuming than we ever dreamed possible, and tends to push the genealogy research to the far back burner. In any event, your W.F. Swiney was the son of Allen Franklin Swiney, and the grandson of William and Nancy, all of Marshall County. Let me know if you need a link to my Rootsweb site. It has some old Swiney pictures and Allen's military records. I hope to get some more stuff up in the not so distant future, but I hear bags of plaster calling my name, so that may not be any time soon.
Bye for now,
Barbara

My grandmother, who is still living, is Eunice's daughter and I do not believe that story is accurate. Mary died in 1901 and Eunice, my greatgrandmother, was born in 1895. We believe that Mary died after giving birth to a baby boy named Willie but my grandmother is not absolutely sure of that. I would like to communicate with you regarding the children. Mary was Eunice's mother and the info we have on the children of Hiram and Amanda is somewhat sketchy because my greatgrandmother didn't talk about it much. Would really like to know your sources for all the kids of Amanda and Hiram. Mary and Hiram had five girls and one baby boy that died to the best of grandmother's memory. The other children are from Hiram's marriage to Amanda

Thanks for tht information. I had no idea there were that many children. As I understand the story, Hiram and Mary Elizabeth were traveling to Texas, and somewhere in Indian Territory, Mary died giving birth to Eunice. Amanda, Mary's sister, was with them and Hiram married her after burying Mary and continued on to Texas where the other children were born. Would love to have whatever you can share of Hiram's parents as far back as possible.
Paul,

I am getting into this late...but my ancestor is Daniel Swinney of Surry Co NC circa 1755. We have been trying to tie into the Edmond Sweny (circa 1657) of Virginia line and are familiar with his sons and grandsons. However, your info on Lazaurus includes names we don't have and I would love to have the source. Please let me know on the board or at mcsuibhne1@aol.com. Thanks, Matt Sweeney

Wiley Jefferson Swinney was a brother of Samuel Walter Swinney, my great grandfather. They were sons of the Rev. Dr. Cyrus Pate Swinney, Jr., who graduated from the Unversity of KY Medical School. Born 1832, died 1880. Son of Cyrus Pate Swinney, Sr. born 1799, died 1837. Before that, info is a little shaky, not so much from proof, but from a family "tale" of two brothers who immigrated from Ireland and fell in love with the same woman. I am still searching for reliable info on Cyrus, Sr.'s father, reported to be John Swinney.

I have siblings for Wiley Jefferson and a good photo of Samuel and his family.

If you need more info, ask me specifics, as I have given you a lot of what I know.

I would be very interested in information you found in Ireland about the Swinney line. I am stuck with John and brother Darby who came from Cork in the mid to late 1700s. A son, Cyrus Payton Swinney, was born in 1799 in South Carolna. From there forward my info is pretty solid, although I haven't followed latter generations of some of the other children except those that decend to me. I have read some things about a Moses, but haven't been able to connect him to my line. I look forward to hearing from you.

Joyce Swinney
Little Rock, AR

I wish that I could help but I am still haven't had the chance to visit Salt Lake City and research my ideas. Several years ago, I obtained several Missouri records and found a lot of land records and a few probate records. One of them for John Swinney to Joseph D. Swinney (1830) and Elizabeth Swinney to Joseph Swinney.(1825) Ralls County, MO.

I haven't proven anything yet but I believe that John Swinney and Elizabeth (Lydia Swinney as the name was in Jefferson County, AL.)were my family. The problem was that John died after 1830 and the Swinney family wasn't in the census in 1840 but were back in 1850. Lydia was 80 years old.

There were a lot of other records in Monroe County, Mo. for Henry , Harrison, Joseph D. and Nancy Swinney, Augustus,
Preston, Chesley, Fountain Swinney. I just haven't had time to thoroughly research the early records yet.
Kristina Harris
Acccording to a cousin's research, so I can't take credit for any of this. Ludie was one of 17 children of Hiraum (Hiram?)Judson Swinney and Mary Elizabeth Bailey (m.1891). I show a 2nd wife Amanda Eleanor Bailey, but no year given.

Hiram was the 6th child of Cyrus Pate Swinney, Jr. and Martha Susan Grimsley Harper. Of Hiram's children, Ludie was mentioned first, so I'm assuming she was the oldest (the marriage year is also a hint). The others are Lora, Eunice, Vernie, May, Willie, Veta, Infant Boy, Herman, Fannie, Cecil, Dick, Trunia, Clona, Lucille, Gresta, and Treva.

I don't have any more info about Ludie's sibs, but I have more about Hiram's parents and further back.

Joyce Swinney, Little Rock, AR

I'm also looking for information regarding these families.

I haven't proven the relationships but its looks like my gggg grandparents John & Lydia Swinney may have been originally from Shelby County, Kentucky area. GGG grandmother Sarah Swinney Harris (b. TN) was probably their daughter or granddaughter (John was probably born circa 1770)
The family was in Alabama as early as 1822; however, it also appears that John & Lydia Swinney probably traveled to / from other locations. They were in the 1830 Jefferson County, AL census and also purchased property in the area around 1834. They were not in the 1840 census (in Jefferson County, AL) But part of the family reappeared in 1850 Jeffrson county, AL. There were two households: Lydia (age 70 or 80,) Anna and Nancy both widows with children. They lived on adjoining land with Sarah Harris.
I suspect (but haven't proven) that John Swinney (and Joseph Swinney) was in Bedford County, 1820 (the households look the same ages) and from there may have also been Shelby County, 1820 and 1810. The part that may seem unlikely is the possibility that John and Lydia also may have been in Ralls County, MO along with Joseph Swinney. I found a land record for John, Lydia and Joseph Swinney in Ralls, C., MO. Unfortunately, it didn't have any identifying information.
I would certainly appreciate any information to prove or disprove that John and Lydia Swinney (daughter Sarah) may have been related to the Shelby County, Kentucky families. (Sarah probably had sisters / cousins, (Jefferson County, AL.) Francis Harrison and ( ? Franklin) can't remember her name -both of which identified their place of birth as Kentucky.
