St James Parish Sydney

I have two questions if someone could answer me please?

On a baptism certificate, dated 1 January, 1856, the ceremony was performed at Parish of St. James, County of Cumberland by S.A.Stanley . Roman Catholic.
Would that be St. James Church ( Cof E) on Cnr. King and MacQuarie Streets where the church may have loaned their establishment to the priest for the baptism, or would that be another church?

I also have a marriage certificate , same parish dated 13 June, 1855 where the minister was Richard Allwood.

I am confused, as it appears that both religious denominations used St. James.

Appreciate any help you may be able to give to me.

John

Charles SYDNEY c1846 & his father William

I have a "brick wall" with my Gt. Grandfather William SYDNEY. I am unable to trace him prior to 1877 when he married in Barrow in Furness, Lancashire (now Cumbria). On subsequent census and documents he gives his place of birth as Luton, Bedfordshire. His marriage certificate gives his father as William SYDNEY, a mason.

I cannot find a birth for Charles or any record for him in the UK prior to 1877. Anyone any ideas?

Roland Edgar
