Sydnors of Ashland/Richmond

I am searching for anyone who is related or familiar with the Sydnors that lived in Ashland, Va and owned Sydnor and Hundley Furniture in Richmond, Virginia. I have moved into the old Sydnor home on the railroad tracks and am very interested in finding out information on the history of it as well as interested in finding an old photo of the house. Thanks!

Hi there. I am Teresa Deery Miller. My grandmother was Bessie Pauline (Polly) Sydnor Deery Childress. I am interested in the book you mentioned. And to correct the listing you have, my grandmother married Charles O Deery, not Dan. Would you contact me at teresamiller205@comcast.net?

Hello Judi,
Thanks for posting your message. there will be a lot of questions to ask you too. I didn't know or anyone had ever came forward with the message of the Sydnor Line from Troy. Missouri or/and Sydnorsville. I'm glad to hear from you. Well, Col. Epaphroditus "Eppa" Sydnor b. 07 May 1816, Halifax Co. Va., d. 04 Jun 1878, Troy, Lincoln Co., Mo. He was son of Thomas G. Sydnor and Mary "Polly" Womack. He married 1st to Elvira Western Crews on 01 Mar 1842, Halifax Co., Mo. She was b. 20 May 1824, Va., d. 02 Dec 1877, Troy, Lincoln Co. Mo. She was dau. of John B. Crews and Ann Randolph Bullock. They had eight known children:
1. Ella Fanny Sydnor
2. Elvira Louise Sydnor
3. Eugene S. Sydnor
4. Frances Emma Sydnor
5. Judith Ann Sydnor
6. Whitmell Tunstel Sydnor
7. Laura Sydnor
8. Epaphroditus Western Sydnor
(I have more information of the children if interested)

Thomas G. Sydnor b. 11 Oct 1783, Halifax Co., Va. d. 16 Sep 1860, Troy, Lincoln Co., Mo. He was son of 2nd Lieut. William Sydnor and Judith Armistead Williams. He married Mary "Polly" Womack on 25 Jun 1805, Va. She was b. 1780, Halifax Co., Va., d. 29 Jan 1847, Troy, Lincoln Co., Mo. She was dau. of Charles Womack and Agnes (no last name). They had eight children:
1. Frances Womack Sydnor
2. Ann Spotswood Sydnor
3. John Wayne Sydnor
4. Dr. William Sydnor
5. Col. Epaphroditus Sydnor (mentioned above)
6. Elizabeth Armistead Sydnor
7. Judith Armistead Sydnor
8. Thomas S. Sydnor

I have been in Sydnorsville for a very short time back in in the summer of 1987. Since you have lived there, there are a lot of informations needs to be done there. You have mentioned the name Beverly Sydnor. There are a quite a few Beverly living in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I believe it may be Beverly Payne Sydnor whom married Ann s. Gay maybe living near the area or close to Roanoke, Va. There is another Beverly Sydnor that ran the post office since 1830 thru 1935 when it was closed. This is the name that brought Sydnorsville because it became a Post Office Place. I also understand there are slaves that are Sydnors that are buried in the woods. I hear it was hard to get there and can be dangerous, not to go alone. I have never been these cemeteries in these areas other than Crews, Va. Maybe you can tell me a little about Sydnorsville and how your family had settled in Troy. Why Troy? There is a picture that I heard shows the Post Office along with Beverly Sydnor sometime back in 1910's. There was a Barn or a place to stop down to the bottom of the highway thats goes thru Sydnorsville> I hear there was an old black gentleman who runs the store and maybe have the picture of the Post office. I drove right by and had never stop there.
You can contact me directly at bksyd@aol.com for more information and Ill be more than happy to help you and you seems to know about Troy and Sydnorsville Story. I think it is cool that you grew up in Sydnorsville. Drop me a line and I'll be more than to share of what I have. Thanks Brad Sydnor P.s. What is your line with these Sydnors?

I was looking at the message board and came across your post. You mentioned something about Beverley Sydnor and Sydnorsville in VA. I am trying to find the names of the white Sydnors who owned my ancestors on both my mother and my father's sides of our family. I know that John Sydnor, Beverley Sydnor and Epaproditus (Epas) Sydnor moved from VA to Troy (Bedford Township), MO. I believe they moved there in the 1800's and were the only Sydnors in that area. (My grandfather told my dad that they came by wagon train from VA to Troy, MO , and he was a little boy at the time. It was before the Civil War because he was to young to fight in the war.) From what I can ascertain, they were landowners or farmers. They also lived in an area called Sydnorville. I grew up in Troy, MO and lived in Sydnorville. Do you know anything about those gentlemen. If not, can you tell me where I might be able to discover something about them? Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks so much. I believe I found that book in the Library of Congress when I was in DC. If I remember correctly, some of the Fortunatus family members settled in the Carthage, MO area. There was a picture of the family on the front cover of the book. I was last in DC in the early 90's, so the details are a little fuzzy. I appreciate your response and will try to find the book to see if it is the one I reviewd.

I am a KY Sydnor who descended from Fortunatus Sydnor from England circa 1640. I have a publication which lists most of his descendants. This book lists our family as KY Sydnors and has a line that is in MO. You might look up these Sydnors for information. The book is The Sydnor Saga by Sydnor Thompson. I don't think you can buy this book now but may find it in a library.

I am very familiar with Sydnorville Road and some people who lived in the area. Do you know any names of your ancestors? I was able to find my grandparents and quite a few other ancestors in the U.S. Census records. Also found my grandparents' marriage records. I'm still searching for more info.

It is rumored their ancestors were given some land when they were freed, but the only proof of this they have is a road/area in town is Sydnorville Road.

Hello there,

I don't have a lot on the Krause Family. They are quite distance from me. I usually collect the Sydnor which I have a lot on. I've been a genealogist for over 34 years now. I do have her name Anna Louise Krause b. 1892, Pennsylvania, d. 1966, "Gold Star Mother", Hockessin Friends Cemetery, Hockessin, New Castle County, Delaware. She married Millard Fillmore Sydnor b. 07 Feb 1887, Virginia, living New Castle, Delaware, 1918-1919, d. 1958, He was living in Yorklyn, New Seattle County, Delaware with family in the 1903's or 1930's census. I had Anna's parents as Louis Krause b. 1859, Germany and Wilhelmina (no last name). She was b. Germany too. I do not know where Millard Fillmore Sydnor was buried? Possibly in Delaware? They had eight children.(I have the list if interested). Millard Fillmore Sydnor was son of Henry Hunneycut Sydnor and Celestral Roberta Shackelford (2nd wife to Henry). Henry and Celestral had twelve children (I have the list if interested). The Sydnor line goes back close 1000 a.d. on my tree. The Sydnor Ancestors are from England. I don't have brothers and sisters of the Krause family of what you have? I would be interested what is your line and the line Krause of what you have? Are you sure that Anna Krause was born in Kentucky? and not in Pennsylavania? I need to clearify on this. My email address: bksyd@aol.com if you want to talk to me directly? or post message here. Thanks for posting your message.

Brad Sydnor of Phoenix, Az.

Lisa,

I do not know of a Jerome Sydnor in my branch of the Sydnor family. My family is from Logan County, KY. They came to Kentucky from Virginia in the 1800's.

Sydnor Thompson has written a book about the lines of Sydnors originating from Fortunatus Sydnor who came to the United States around 1660 from England. It is entitled -- The Sydnor Family Saga. You might try researching this book.

Hope you find the information.

Susan Sydnor Carroll

I don't know much but that his dads name was Jerome Sydnor and his moms name was Dorothy. He said he had 2 or 3 brothers named; I am not sure there names but he said they all died. I am his daughter and if they might be alive or something it would be nice to know. Thanks you guys for your help

I am looking for information on an Edward Y. (or M.) Sydnor. I have seen in the census there was an "Eddie Sydnor" born about the same time the Edward I am looking for was born (1837/38)in dinwiddie County.
This Edward/Eddie Sydnor married my great grandmother Josephine Fletcher. They had two children, Moses Sydnor and Sadie India Sydnor. I believe my great-grandmother also had two other children, Bessie and Myrtle Fletcher, previous to their marriage. They were living in Richmond, VA at the time of the 1900 Census.
Any assistance with this would be very, very appreciated.
Thank you.
Shirley Cox Schroeder
prairefyre@sbcglobal.net

Sydnor has popped up as a potential given name in Frederick Co. Virginia. Handwriting is very bad, so it could well be something else entirely, but, just to check off the right box, is there any evidence of the Sydnor family in Frederick co Virginia in the early to mis 1800s?

Thanks.

Cheryl

I saw your post and wondered if my Doctor is the one you are referring to in your message. I have him as born in 1881 to Scott and Sallie Sydnor. He has siblings named Mary, Coleman, Daniel, Stephen, Mildred and Marcellus. I don't have any of their spouses' and children's names but would love to know if there is a connection here. I know most of the Sydnors are from Halifax County and Lunenberg (?).

I remember reading on a message on another board about Sydnor slaves and where they got them from. I emailed the person and never got an answer. My line is from Stephen and Lucinda they had 5 children listed Lucinda died of comsumption as her daugther Martha about a year or two apart. I would like to know what they heritage was most Native Americans and African Americans died quickly and very young of this disease they're age were 33 and 34. My grandfather claimed to be Blackfeet which is know to be Saponi. Let me know if you found out anything I would appreciate very much.

Gwen

I believe you may be related to my Sydnors. A lot of my families are mixed as I found out doing my family history. My grandfather came to be Blackfeet which is know to be Saponi. Let me know if you found out anything I would appreciate very much.
