This Robert Tackett was son of William A. Tackett, b NC, abt 1845. William migrated from NC about 1868 and it is said that he and parents and siblings (with their families) all traveled from NC to Tazewell Co., VA and Mercer Co., WV by foot.

William A. Tackett was son of my gr-grandfather, Alexander C. Tackett, b NC, between 1815-1820. Alexander's wife was Caroline Cornelius, b NC, abt 1817. My grandfather, Samuel Ephraim Tackett, b 1862, was brother of William A. Tackett. Will be happy to share info with you and would love to know what you may know about this family.

Alison Nicole Tackett; 25 Jan 2012

Alison:
I know of two Gifford Tacketts who lived in Washington state, but I didn’t think either would be old enough to be anyone’s gt.grandfather. Guess I could be wrong on that as I could be one myself with grandchildren in their mid-20‘s. But, Gifford Johnson Tackett, 1913-1988, did live at Arlington, Snohomish Co. He, his 2nd wife, Katheryn, and his sister, Mildred, visited with me in 1978 at my home, then in Concord, CA.

But, this Gifford did not come from Texas. He was born at Ferndale, WA. His father, Alonzo Lee Tackett, a photographer, was born in Missouri.

Jim W.

Looking for Gifford Tackett information. He was my great grandfather. All I have been told is that he came to Washington from Texas as a young man and was a logger in Arlington and Darrington. Later, I'm not sure when, he worked with the Horse Owners Association in Darrington and had something to do with starting the Darrington Timber Bowl rodeo. I would like to write a book about the Tackett family history relating to Grandpa Giff and his family in Texas and earlier. Thank you for any information.

Hi, Scott. Hope you are still checking your responses on here. I was in touch with you quite some time ago and I believe you moved and we lost touch. My gr-grandfather was Alexander C. Tackett, b abt 1815-20, North Carolina and my grandfather was Samuel Ephraim Tackett, b 1862, North Carolina.

I found a listing of the marriage of Martha C. and Thomas E. Tackett in 1868 and on it, she listed her status as Widowed. I am sure I printed it out but am researching again to get the definite record. Lost my computer info at one time. Will send the info about the marriage as soon as I find it again---provided I hear that you are still on this site.

Tom:
As a matter of accuracy: (1) The old Lancaster family register has Lancaster’s surname spelled as TACKITT, and several of his children & descendants maintained that spelling, however, TACKETT is the more common variant of the name and (2), there is no evidence that the surname of his wife was HAMPTON. We’ve been researching these families for over 50 years and I sure don’t know who or why the HAMPTON surname was appended, but I suspect it was just somebody’s guess. Regards, Jim W. The name
should be Keziah, meaning a daughter of a chief.
I am also descendant to the Davis Ancestry on my mother & my father's ancestry from N.C. too. Both sides are of
Cherokee, but the maternal side has much Cherokee on it,
from several Cherokee Chiefs.
The Tacquett could be french...as the french did help the American Colonists win the Revolutionary War.
After that war there were Arranged Marriages, and Officers got to go & marry the daughters of the Tribal Chiefs who had fought alongside of the American Colonists.
Hazel Davis-Clark
bojacks1@yahoo.com

Shelby, I have known all my life that Samuel was part Cherokee, word of mouth from my mom and grandmother Ida Tackett . Ida's family disowned her because she married Samuel who was part Indian. If you check on the native American census you will also find several other Tacketts and Mary Mullins on the Choctaw rolls. Also Irene Wright and aunt Velma knewabout our Indian heritage.
Sorry, you're right. It goes Moses>Sherwood>Thomas>William>Ernest. Ernest Allen was my grandfather. He was married to Jewel Day before he moved to Texas and they had four children. They are Jack Allen, still in Olive Hill, Otis (deceased), Annabelle (deceased), and my father Bucky Roger, who died in 2002. Annabelle kept in touch with Ernest, and I remember his sisters Ann and Mary Opal, who I saw often as a child. I understand Ernest had another family in Texas, but I don't have any leads on them yet. I never met my grandfather Ernest, but I do have pictures of him. My dad was two years old when he moved to Texas and he never knew him either. Jack has 4 children, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Annabelle had 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Otis died at two years old, and Bucky had 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Please email me if you want this info to add to your tree. Also, I'm just starting with some papers left to me by Annabelle, but her research is incomplete. My family tree is on public view (what I know of it) at archives.com and ancestry.com. I would love to have some info to fill in the blanks.

Thank you,

Beth Tackett
Rnbetht64@yahoo.com

Beth:
Moses didn't have a son named THOMAS. Is this perhaps a typo? But, he did have a son SHERWOOD, 1835-1907. Sherwood's son was WILLIAM E. TACKETT (aka "Fodder Bill). He had two wives, 1st, Eliza E. "Lulu" Bowling and 2nd, Melissa J. Abrams. I'm not aware of a son of this William named ERNEST, but I may not have them all. A WILLIAM SHERWOOD TACKETT, 1883-1953, of Olive Hill, KY, did have a son named ERNEST ALLEN, 1909-1974. Is this your grandfather? (BUT, this ERNEST didn’t have a g’dau named Beth Tackett, at least not that I’m aware of. . . . and he moved to Texas.)
Jim W. My father is still living and still owns the house next to Calvin and Mary's (my grandparents)old place. I tried several years ago to reach Vicky Neville who I believe is a great-granddaughter to Tennessee and Arthur but she had changed her email and I didn't know how to find her. I would to chat with you. I'm on Facebook if you would like to reach me. Calvin and Mary had 14 children. One of them (Clennon-Clyde--I don't know if that's the correct spelling) passed away at the age of 2 with meningitis. The others besides Arthur who is the oldest are: Opal, Alberta, Gobel, Cecil, Layvilla, Belmont, Josephine, John, Westina, Helena, Beulah May, and David.

Harvey, a timberman, was killed in a sawmill boiler explosion on Marrowbone Creek in Pike Co., KY in 1928.
A photo of the original headstone for your ancestor, Solomon Osborne, 1765-1852, can be found on page 2 of Photos on our website. This enhanced image is from the original photo I took in 1987.
Jim W.
