I was wondering if any other Talbot family out there has any information on Desire and Delphine Talbot. They came to RI with as far as I know their 5 kids; Victor, Eva, Germaine, Jennie, and Jule. I was looking for additional information because I could not find any record of them besides what was in the US census in 1900 and 1910. Before and after that I haven't found anything

The Nicholas Talbot dit Gervais that I know comes from Seine-Maritime, Rouen Normandie. His son Jean Jacques Talbot dit Gervais came to Quebec and settled there. After awhile the dit Gervais was dropped by some and became just Talbot. However, I believe we are all related whether it is Talbot or Gervais.

Re: Talbots from Tipperary

My Great Grandfather was William Talbot, from Co. Tipperary, who emigrated to the USA in the 1870's. He had a sister that stayed in Ireland, and lost his left leg below the knee in a coal mining accident in Pennsylvania sometime in the 1880's or 90's. They gave him $5,000, a lot of money at the time, and he used it to open three saloons in Queens County New York. He married an Irishwoman from Sligo named Anna Maria Hoey and had 8 kids, 5 of whom survived to adulthood, four boys and a girl. My grandfather, Leo Talbot was his youngest son. I don't know if my Great-Grandfather is related to Mary Talbot, but being a Norman name, it's not as common in Ireland as it is in England or France, so you never know! I hope this has been helpful to you and wish you all the best in your investigations!
Sincerely yours,
Tim Talbot
www.timothytalbot.com

Re: Searching Talbot from Ireland to Illinois

Hello Susan

What a wonderful surprise.....after all these years, someone has finally answered an old post. One I think is over 9 yrs old. Thank you for your response.
I am still researching the family tree. Sorry to say, I have still not been able to connect Thomas Talbot to Richard Talbot, so the info I have on Richards side is still not in the tree.

From my childhood memories, there were always 2 Talbot lines in the Joliet area. I gathered they were friendly but not close. I remember that when 1 of the kids were sick, they always called Doc Talbot who was from that side.

I have some notes on them, including marriage lic for Richard and Mary, Lowell Mass., 1837.

My Thomas Talbot shown living with them on 1850 census age 19. Unfortunately, that census doesn't list relationship to head of household, but it does indicate he is a farmhand.

One of the trees on Ancestry claims Richard & Mary are his parents, but data I have would make that unlikely. Unfortunately my suggestions have not changed anything.

You mentioned that you are related to Richard....I would be
delighted to know the details. I have contacted only one person from that side. Seversl years ago I spoke by phone with Dr Talbot, a retired dentist living in Joliet. We have
not had contact since.

I am excited about possibly adding new material or better yet, being able to link the 2 lines together. I would be more than happy to share what I have with you.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Regards
Larry Talbot

Larry,
not sure how to best respond to you. I've read more of your posts now and I have pretty much the same info you do on the Talbots. No info on what ships either Richard or Thomas took to US. Our family lore says Richard came by schooner to Lowell, MA where he met Mary. Then they travelled westward to Lemont, the Great Lakes and down the partially completed I & M canal. They bought property near Troy in 1832. We guessed Thomas might have been a younger brother sent over (?) Susan Talbot

then you must be neil. I am impressed with the number of family members you have traced back, but, see that you also have stalled out on George. My dad thinks Uncle Richard may have some information about the family - he also thinks that we have some irish roots. I will keep hunting. Let me know if you find anything else about George. Interesting hobby - hunting up old family records.

I am a descendant of John Stuart Talbot. My Great Great Great Grandfather was his son Henry who immigrated to America with Ruth Sweetnam his wife and my Great x3 Grandmother. Is this the line you are looking into. I just started doing my genealogy since my Grandpa Talbot passed away. Maybe we can help each other.

Candace Talbot Woodbury

brother of Warren Talbot,Parents William Talbot and Mary Terry from N.Y. William came to Henry co and bought Sugar Tree farms in Cambridge. You will find a Talbot cemetery there with all your Talbot folks right there.Warren and Eugene must have been close because in 1930 they are living in a boarding house together in Kewanee Ill. Right after Warren's divorce.

Thank you for your kind offer. All my early Talbot ancestors were non-conformists, living around Fore Street, Limehouse, and the first name Charles has never been used in the family. Talbot is a surprisingly frequent name in 19th century London, and there is a large family of barge owners with that name. If I spot a connection with Charles and Mary Ann, I will get back to you.

I'm descended from Charles Talbot, born at Paddington UK in approximately 1827 or 1828. His father is listed as Thomas Talbot on the marriage certificate of Charles and his wife Mary Ann (nee Munro).
I don't know whether my Talbot family branch is linked to that of William Henry Talbot, but you are welcome to share all my research, as there must have been several Talbot families in London and Middlesex who were related.
wessexpensioners@yahoo.co.uk

Oh, so you mean to tell me that Catherine Plunkett was only 11 years old when she got married and had her first child, a son in 1638, before having Catherine Plunkett (Talbot) in 1640? Don't think so. Do the math. She was married sometime before 1638 from what I read. Makes no sense! I am a direct descendent of Simon Hadley, the Elder from Dublin who was married to "a" Catherine Talbot born 1640, but unless Catherine Punkett's birthdate is way off, then she couldn't possibly have been her mother.

Try www.whitepages.com

His birth record would be on microfilm at the Mass Archives - birth records after 1915 aren't online yet. You could then go to Mass Vitals right down the street from Mass Archives and see the actual birth record - that would give you info on his mother's maiden name. You could also find her marriage record at Mass Vitals and possibly her death record.

Good Luck
Margaret
Dear Margaret,
Marvellous to finally contact another descendant of James & Catherine !!
They have turned out to be quite an elusive lot.
I wasn't aware of Margarets part in the family, and the only ref. to a sibling I have come across is the marriage in Clonmel of Robert, to Mary Walsh 1883. Our John was married in Thurles 1884, so it would seem that the family had left Clonmel for greener pastures. So pleased to have made contact, and looking forward to exchanging info.
Cheers Ed. e-mail, angnted@bigpond.com

Dear Ed,

I'm delighted to meet you! I agree that we are on the same track. I would love to see the baptism and marriage information on the children.

Do you know what circumstances lead John Talbot to go to Australia and whether any of his siblings also made that journey? I know that my greatgreatgrandmother, Margaret Talbot Callaghan, left for American around 1885. I've been looking through the 1901 and 1911 censuses for Ireland, but have not found any of the Talbot children.

Best wishes,
Margaret

I have tracked my Talbot's back to Robert Talbot & Margaret SHINE, who had 3 children baptised at St Mary's Clonmel,
James,2nd Nov.1818, Margaret 1821, & John, 1826; so it seems we are on the same track !! James m. Catherine WALKER at St Mary,s 30 may 1845, John m. Ellen BRIEN 23 Nov 1844.
I have obtained baptism & marriage dates for the children of both of these families, where that occured at Clonmel, if you are still interested.
My connection is through James/Catherine,whose son John came to Australia 1884.
Ed Talbot.
