I am looking for this Spencer Talley

Rebecca Talley...SPENCER TALLEY MOTHER
BirthinTennessee, USA
DeathinIllinois, USA
. I was able to see that Spencer Talley was on the census in 1880 with birth listed as Tennessee but no parents listed. Really need to go back as far as he can be found in Illinois then jump to Tennessee but from what my mother indicated we never knew enough of Spencer to dig back. With today's technology on the internet it may take some time but I'm sure he can be discovered. We've often wondered if Spencer was illegitimate because of the blanks for parents on census info. However I also have wondered if by some chance since families have a habit of recycling names.
birth.
Rebecca Talley...SPENCER TALLEY MOTHER
birthinTennessee, USA 1851
DeathinIllinois, USA 1920

Sara his wife 1857 1933

Who are his parents?

Reply to Ed Tieman be188e@hotmail.com

My email is still active, and yes, I would like to converse with you concerning the Talley family of my grandmother, now deceased, Faye Vivian Gasaway Gage d. 1985. I have many older family photos, few of which are identified. And, of course, I would like to know more about circumstances of the 2nd family her father maintained while still married in both places.

I have friends and family still in Salina, KS and was planning a visit in late April 2012.

TALLEY, George Tennessee

I'm looking for any information on George Talley born about 1925. I know he lived in Alamo, TN in 1954 and was married to Dorthy McMullen also of Alamo, TN. There is some controversy regarding his middle name. No one is sure if it is Eugene or Preston. He passed in the 80's. I know that's not a lot of concrete info but not even my dad(George's son) has the info. Any help would be appreciated.

I am related to the Talleys buried in Union Cemetery and Fulton, Co.
Re: James Franklin Talley

VJenkins:
I believe this is the James Franklin & James H. Holloway you have been looking for.

After James Franklin Tally's father was murdered, James Tally married Sarah Jane "Jennie" Holloway. They moved near James H. Holloway and Sarah White, her parents. Sarah was born in AL. James Tally & Sarah moved to GA then to Montgomery, AL, then settled in Texas.

My great, great grandfather John Tally b.abt. 1812 GA and wife Anna Jane Ellis/Eller b.abt. 1817 NC settled in Abbeville, Henry Co, AL early 1833-1834, had a grocery store, Livery, and I think a pharmacy store also. Their children living with them in 1860 were: John M.Payton age 19 (ended up in Crenshaw, AL), my great grandfather James Franklin age 17 (ended up in TX), Sarah B. age 14, Josephas age 12, and Andrew Jackson age 4. Their oldest daughter Mary had married Henry Powell. Their eldest son, George Washington (alias Talmadge) (ended up in Ohio) married Elizabeth Kirkland and lived next door. James Franklin Tally married my grandmother Sarah Jane Holloway c. 1872 DeKalb, AL.

About 1866 a young neighbor, David W. Merit (Merritt), came into John Tally's grocery store drunk with no money in his pocket and asked for liquor. My g.g.grandfather John said "no". David Merit left and bummed a coin outside and again asked for liquor. When John again said no, because David was all ready too drunk, David stabbed my g.g. grandfather John to death.

This was just at the end of the Civil War. David was brought to trial. He was defended by another neighbor, Attny. Oats who got him acquitted. The Yankees appointed David Merit County Deputy Sheriff. The Deputy Sheriff, killer of John Tally lived for 20+ years right next to two of John's sons and the lawyer who successfully defended him. Must have been a very uncomfortable situation.
Re: Prior Talley, Betsy Walkingstick

After reading what the Cooks connection made, I thought I should follow up. Doris Talley Adams died last year and this is her or one in her family. She is related to me and was a great genealogist, but I do not agree with her in the Walkingstick connection. We have found more and more information that makes me thing Henry Henson was spot on. Henry Henson made an application for the Guion Miller roll around 1900 and it was rejected. One thing he said that a list of people were with them when they came from Georgia to Arkansas. I check everyone of these people out and they are all connected to the Hensley family someway. He was there with them in 1834. He is listed on the Emigrate Roll but only a slash mark. Yes her got the lineage off a little, but I thought he did pretty good to me an elderly man. We have found that the Hensley family came to North Carolina around the Revolutionary War time and I see the Nicholson family is there also. So I think we need to keep digging and there may be some connection between your family and us. Thanks for your posting. Virginia

Prior Talley's parents are Henry Talley and Ann Pryor. He was married to Nancy Elizabeth Hensley. One in the family way back says her mother was Susan Walkingstick and her grandmother was Betsy Walkingstick, but we have not been able to prove it. We are working on this family and would appreciate any help you can give. Virginia
